On the one hand, if you want a local company to handle things for you and you want one of the…read morebiggest little companies around in the sign and banner and display marketing biz, you've got the right folks. But the bigness of the company almost works against them. One of the reasons I often choose local companies is because of the kind of service and attention I get. When you order with them, there's a real push to do it online. That's great if you know what you need and what you're doing, but for someone who doesn't have this stuff made every couple of months it could be difficult and you may find the service at a smaller shop to be more up your alley. In a world where online printing companies are now super, super, UBER cheap it's often going to be more affordable to just send it off to Texas or California, even with shipping. I mean, if I'm submitting it all online anyway it becomes a pure price game. The good news is that they are local and real people do work there, so you can work a little closer with them if you need to. They've been around a long time and can handle just about any size project. And it's not just banners--they do tablecloths, car wraps, stand up banners, window banners (decals? wraps?) and a whole host of other promotional or products. Give the website a whirl if you're curious, but realize that if you're going to get a banner or project done just online, you can do a little research and save some money. Hopefully they'll be willing to walk you through it if you go in or pick up the phone.

A couple years ago I fell into representing a nonprofit (for which I volunteer AND do freelance…read morework) at events. After manning a table at a couple of events I was hooked and sought to improve the professionalism of our presence. The first thing I needed was signage with a stand. A Google search led me to Sugar House which had the largest selection of banner fabrics and stands, I designed what at that time was an awesome piece, they did a beautiful job of printing it, it arrived in plenty of time for my next event, and the durable banner and stand continue to serve me well. Their after-sale service was incredible - I received several emails asking if everything was to my satisfaction and requesting a photo of my banner in action. This photo is still on their website! They're not the cheapest, but you can't beat their quality, selection and service. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them for full-service banner work.

Working with Fluid Advertising was horrible. We contracted…read morewith them for social media, advertising, and graphics services. The social media assistance was uninspired; they just took information from our website and posted it. No additional effort was ever taken on their part. I had to take over the posting duties because once they posted data that was incorrect (actually inserting a project from our main competition) and that they did not run past me. So I had to take over the actual posting and eventually we got so fed up with their effort that we are doing it all in-house. The graphics were for our proposal materials, which the goal was to come up with some very unique designs. The assignment was shifted to one person to the next, because one of them quit (which, in hindsight, was a good thing for her). Once finished, it was also not very good. If you need this type of help from them you'd be better off going to a website that sells stock illustrations. You'd save a lot of money. If you need to personalize them, go through an online freelancer. At least that way the digital artist will communicate directly with you. This leaves the advertising. I'll admit that I didn't give them much time for the ad, but they were bragging how creative they were. Why I suggested using stock images before is because that is what I ended up with at the end... a stock image with a tag line. It was okay; not great. Luckily it was just for one publication, so I used it. In the end, the Client Representative that was working with me got fired. No loss there. There are probably others that need to be let go. The person who took over knew things had gone badly, but did little to remedy things--but to be honest, I was so very glad to cancel our short contract. Use them at your peril. It'd be better to just ask for a little extra money and hire someone to help you in the office, rather than dealing with this company. If you look at their reviews, they seem pretty good--but if you look closely you'll see that they are old.
