But I can't accept it because I was given a small bonus 4 years years ago in exchange for electronically signing a document (a single mouse click) that had a hidden non-compete buried in small print after paragraph 18. Next time I won't just blindly "Accept the Terms and Conditions" without reading them. STUPID ME, but I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has ever just clicked "Accept" without reading it... Anyway, the document says I can't work for anyone else in my industry until I've quit this company for 12 months. I hate that I fell into their deceptive trap -- how is someone supposed to be able to afford to quit and wait 12 months before working again in the only industry they've ever known??? Anyway, that's why I called Matt, to see if he could help me out of this. He patiently went through the document with me and answered every one of my questions. He said the agreement may have some holes and may not be as bulletproof as I feared, but that doesn't mean my company won't fight me, and the fact that the document exists means I have to send it to my new prospective employer, who is likely to rescind the offer if they or I might have to go to court over this. Matt gave me several ideas of how I may attempt to resolve the matter without litigation, and I am working through those options now. Ultimately, should I need to litigate the matter, I believe Matt will competently represent me.

I sent an email yesterday regarding the matter & received a phone call today telling me that I never sent an email and I never called... Upon me trying to explain that and repeating back verbatim what I was told by Will... He told me I was arguing and hung up on me... I said you are only as strongest link and if your intake specialist treats future clients this way, I can only imagine how the firm would be... What's even funnier is I was told four months ago I had found the right place and that they truly cared!! Edit: Went to call back again and asked if the line is being recorded while asking to speak to a manager or supervisor and Will told me NO and hung up on me!! I would like to add that Will had told me he was experiencing some health issues and I had given him some advice on bloodwork... But regardless of health issues this is not a way to treat possible future clients.... I'm just hoping someone reads this so the disconnect can be fixed, because no one wants to be treated like this when they are already experiencing unfair treatment etc. oh .... I was happy with my lawyer for almost two years and truly felt he was on my side. However, towards…read morethe end of my case--despite having a very strong claim--he seemed to back away and strongly urged me to accept a very small settlement. He pressured me into agreeing by emphasizing how expensive trial would be. What upset me the most was the way the settlement was structured. My lawyer ended up walking away with more money than I received, and I was left paying an unreasonable amount of taxes on money that should never have been categorized that way. I voiced my concern, but was told "this is usual." Half of my settlement was labeled as lost wages, even though the opposing lawyers had argued my wage loss was only about 10%. In the end, I felt pressured, misled, and left with far less than what was fair. I regret trusting how the final stage of my case was handled.
