La reina, la llanera, arepitas with cheese, yucca fries, plantains
    Vivian C.

Saw that they had good reviews, so decided to get some takeout, but i was so disappointed. Glad i used an uber eats promo/giftcard so out of pocked i paid only a little bit. Ordered a La reina, la lanera, arepitas with cheese, fried plantains, and yucca fries. Very disappointed in the 'bun' of the arepas. They were HARD......i know they're not soft and fluffy like buns, but they were stale hard. They were quite hard to eat. fillings for the arepas were ok, but nothing to call home about. Kids loved the fried plantains, but they love bananas anyways. Yucca fries, i was surprised at how small the order was. And they felt very processed, outside was quite battered, and inside was like mashed potatoes texture. Yucca fries from other places had better texture, that felt like real food, not baby food. Will not be visiting again thats for sure. Too expensive if i didn't have ubereats promo and gift card.

Three complimentary sauces come with empanadas ( chipotle, avacodo, and garlic)

The fact that they let us in 30 minutes before closing time makes me love this place. Although we had to rush ourselves to order but thanks to other reviewers, we made the right choice ordering empanadas and arepas. Most of the stuffs I wanted to order is out, but I guess it's normal since it would be closing time soon. I don't really know how Venezuelan food truly tastes like, to be honest, but the food here at Gordo is AMAZING! The pollo empanadas was made-from-scratch fried corn bread filled with chicken. Tricolour arepas is loaded with chicken, beef, sauteed onions and bell peppers, and shredded cheese. The bread is thick, crispy, and grilled to perfection. These two order is more than enough for a meal. The three sauces come as complimentary with the empanadas and the garlic one is my favorite. I've heard from few friends that it is one of the most authentic Venezuelan restaurant here in Toronto. Limited seatings, but the staffs are wonderful and friendly. They are quick and very attentive. Definitely coming back here!

Located downtown, this place is about a 10 minute walk from the dupont subway station. At first, it wasn't easy to find this place. It is located in a semi residential area. Upon walking inside, it kind of looked like a bar. The owner was very friendly and asked if I ever ordered Arepa before. He recommended the llanera so that's what I got. It took about 15 minutes to get my food. Overall, the arepa was ok. there was nothing extraordinary about it but it was fine. I don't know why arepa is overpriced but it seems that this price is the going rate at my arepa places. I also ordered the tequenos as well. they were ok. I usually like the salted cheese but the cheese didn't have any taste to it. There's nothing wrong with this place and I would come again.

Came here after a work session one night, was recommended the steak arepa and holy hell it was DELICIOUS! Probably tasted even better since I was hungry. The arepa dough reminds me of a Chinese steamed bao bun, but is lighter with less chew. It's pan fried on the bottom to give it some crunch (awesome!) and mine came with cheese tomatoes avocado and steak. Just be warned that it's not going to be fast food and you might be waiting for a while. But it's definitely worth the wait!

When it comes to Venezuelan's food, this is definitely the place to go, the food here is amazing and the most important, you will always get the same quality, is all about freshness! FWY: be ready for a big size meal try not to eat anything before heading here. A most try is the Tequeño, is delicious and have plenty of cheese.

Exotic southern American food was incredible! Also service wasn't that good but it's worth to come because of food

Chill spot, guy. Venezuelan comfort food, yeah? Gordo, indeed. We like it here and it's on repeat. I'm happy to pay $9 for a simple and tasty meal of 3 tacos (beef, chicken or pork), a nice helping of avocado salad and 3 DELICIOUS house made sauces (tomato salsa, avocado sauce, garlic sauce). The massive apera sandwiches are filling and satisfying ($6.75 or $7.75 depending on type), but I'm not sure that this will be my favorite thing at Gordo Ex once I try everything on the menu. Beware: the garlic sauce is irresistible. Fattybakes approved.

Arepa Guys is set up at a local convenience but they're very welcoming. Chef owner Moises is a cool dude who seems quite passionate about Venezuelan food and culture. I came early and was politely asked to wait for the first dozen arepas (corn meal breads) to be grilled and baked to perfection. From the menu, I had their carne mechada: delicious slow-cooked shredded beef with a healthy mix of plantains, beans & cheese stuffed in the warm arepa. They had quite the variety of other fillings including chorizo, crab meat/shrimp, shredded chicken breast and eggs as well. Arepa Guys is open weekends only, and introduces this unique food to many of us for the first time. Their arepa was perfectly crisp on the outside and the shredded beef stuffing was a bit light in flavour. I did realize later that I missed out on their homemade cilantro, garlic and hot sauces. So apply some from the dine-in area when picking up an arepa to go.

Also, the man behind the counter and the lady who brought the food over (I regret not asking for their names) were extremely nice. As long as they're there, we'll be supporting them. I walked in and after taking a look at the relatively small menu, I decided I needed to try the joint's empanadas. I didn't know which of the four to order, so I asked the very helpful woman behind the counter to give me a couple of her favorites. Those turned out to be a Cheese Empanada and a Pabellon Empanada ("Shredded Beef, Cheese, Sweet Plantain, Black Beans"). I got them home a short time later and they were actually still hot! I started with the Cheese Empanada and I was blown away pretty much from the first bite. The salty, melty cheese within was absolutely irresistible, and the empanada itself was perfectly fried and essentially the ideal of what an empanada should be. The Pabellon Empanada fared even better, in my opinion. The perfectly proportioned filling ensured that every bite was pretty much perfect, and I should note, too, that the included zesty sauce only enhanced the concoction's overall impact. I'm definitely excited to welcome Arepatite to Midtown, and I can't wait to try their other offerings.
