Cheese curds ($12) come with dill ranch. These are delicious!

SLANTED OPINIONS? We love Goose Island beer at home, but we had a lousy time at the Salt Shed Pub. Prior to an Alter Bridge + Filter concert on 5/6/26, my wife and I came here for a quick dinner and drinks.  While we waited for a table to open up, I admired their (quite literally) rotating beer menu displayed on a European train station-style message board.  Eventually they sat us in the adjacent covered pavilion. The moment we stepped onto the patio, something felt off, like the whole area was sloping away from the building.  I assumed my brain was on the fritz, until I set my beer down on the table and watched that 16oz glass slide effortlessly from right to left.  Whaaaaaa??? Most pints were $7-8 which isn't bad for Chicago; since it's coming straight from the source, Goose Island is wise not to overcharge.  Kick Back (American lager), Keller Pils (pilsner), and Birds of a Feather (hefeweizen) were all solid brews we would get again. The 312 nachos ($19) were mid: plain tortilla chips w/shredded chicken, beer cheese sauce, black beans, sour cream, pickled onions, jalapenos and cilantro.  The cilantro was mostly stems, the chicken got cold within minutes, and the pickled onions looked like something I fished out of our shower drain. The cheese curds ($12), on the other hand, were delicious.  They were lightly breaded and came with an amazing dill ranch, virtually perfect. Two thumbs down for the atmosphere in the side pavilion.  Besides the fact that it felt pitched at least 3° to starboard, there were no space heaters to regulate temperature so it was damn chilly inside, even in early May.  Service was equally cold, with huge gaps between placing orders, waiting for the check, etc.  They pretty much seated us then promptly forgot we existed. * TL;DR * Gimme a couple cans of Green Line and call it a day. The Goose Island brand is always welcome in our house, but the underwhelming nachos, slow service, and oddly tilted floor at the Salt Shed Pub made for a generally unpleasant experience. (( before you say "well maybe the table was off-balance", that was also my first thought.  But that wouldn't explain why my inner ear went bonkers just WALKING to our table.  The ground wasn't level, sinking into the river or whatever, who the fuck knows )) I'd venture a guess that this place is much more fun during the summer, and if we'd have been sat in the main area instead of auxiliary seating, it'd probably be a 3.5* review instead of 2.5*.  Rounding down because eating & drinking while on a noticeable slant was really bizarre.

Broken record plays again: I only bangs with breweries that have real food. Just another thing that makes Goose Island a fave. You couldn't pry 312 outta my hands when it hit the east coast 10 years ago so it was great to have the real deal onsite. Except I didn't even get 312 lmao. The extensive draft list had me at a beermosa and my other Goose favorite - hazy bear IPA. Our group of 4 + bebe was the second group in the door at 12pm so we had our pick of places to sit. We caught a view of the river, the Hancock, and the beer tanks (I'm sure there's a better word but I'm old and can't remember). We ordered: -Chicago mild wings -broccoli Caesar (heads up this is grilled/crispy broccoli served cold in Caesar dressing) -smash burger -turkey sando -grilled cheese and soup -cheese curds -fish n chips -kids smash We ate and ate. All good - no notes. Awesome service as well. Beware - "nightmare chairs" that I know some with bigger bodies don't love. However, we have these same chairs in my kitchen and they're fine by me. YMMV.

Great pre-game if you have a concert at Salt Shed. Their menu has a little something for everyone and my go to is the smash burger paired with one of their hazy IPAs. The staff is super friendly and I would recommend making a reservation for inside or patio dining. The bar area is first come first serve.

Came here on a 3-day trip to Chicago, time was limited but made sure this was one of my stops. Brewery has a chill atmosphere with friendly service. One of the many things I enjoy about visiting breweries, people are always nice and welcoming. I'm a SoCal boy and enjoy my Westcoast IPAs. Tried a few but the winner was "The Seer". Made with Mosaic hops (and other hops), that was the indicator to me that it was going to be a winner. It was so hard leaving this place because I enjoyed this beer so much. Also, tried their cheese curds and fries, so good! Didn't try their smash burger but heard nothing but great things about it from local folks. My time was limited but I'll definitely be back when I come back to Chicago. Stay tuned for my next trip back! Cheers!

The beer selection is great and the food is SO incredible! The goose island pub at salt shed really feels like a hidden gem. I was able to walk in with my partner on a weekend late afternoon without reservations and we were seated immediately. There are plenty of tables inside and when it's warm there are lots of patio seating by the river. On outdoor concert nights you can hear the concert being played out there too! (Sometimes the concert is indoor and you won't be able to hear it then). The pub chips are the best chips I've ever had. They're freshly fried with a heavy hand of BBQ seasoning and a creamy caramelized leek dip. So addictive. The general tso's wings are also really tasty and the wings are a decent size. It's just a step below San Tung wings (if anyone's had that from San Francisco). The salads are phenomenal, they seem to rotate it every so often. The warm brussel sprout Caesar was so good and the portion size is very generous. It's got a good crunch with the croutons and fried sprouts and creaminess from the Caesar dressing. Perfectly balanced and delicious. The servers are great, they do a good job if checking if you need any refills but they don't hover too much. I also recommend the cheese curds and pretzel.

What a sweet place to have right next to the Salt Shed for a post concert snack! The brewery has $5 burgers after concerts which hit the spot. Service was super fast even after a concert, we were able to get a seat right away.

First off, shout out to the hostess, I didn't catch your name but thank you for holding my reservation even though I was 45 minutes late!!! Next, this place was packed and I still never waited for a beer. Amazing service here. I read the reviews and when I saw how busy it was I was worried. I can say without question don't worry about how busy it is the servers here are on point. The food was awesome as well, and the beer was great loved it!!! Can't wait to come back.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Salt Shed location. It was busy but was still able to find bar seating. The drinks were really good and the staff were nice. Prices are also very reasonable for the small and the larger pours. There was a show going on so there was a security check to go in, but went by super quick. I didn't try the food, but would consider it at some future time!

Update from my last visit. Stopped in before Alabama Shakes concert for a bite. The service was a lot better, but the food was a complete miss. The ribs were tough and the charcuterie board was bland w ritz crackers.... I don't drink, but I had a NA michelada and my gf and her sister had beers. Would love to see an improvement to the food, menu as nothing really looked too exciting. No wow factor, no one to tell you about the product and what's brewing, no talk about goose... My gf and I certainly agreed that some good food would have made an already good night even better.

    Best pretzels in my life
    Melanie T.

This Goose Island location is INCREDIBLE and feels like a hidden gem. It has a great interior space (the music they play is a great relaxing vibe and also the speakers are great). The outdoor patio is gorgeous and sits right on the river. It has string lights at night, and a few large couches surrounding two fire pits. It's a very romantic vibe at night! Also, service has always been wonderful! FOOD: SO GOOD. I am not exaggerating when I say the soft pretzels are the best pretzels I have had in my entire life. I came back a second time for their pretzels to confirm this was true! You get two soft pretzels that are so fresh! The dough is soft, warm, coated in just the right amount of butter and large salt grains. The honey mustard is lightly sweet with a nice tang. The beer cheese is mild and pairs so well with the flavor of the pretzel. This is a must try!! Other foods I tried and loved: - Pub Chips - Wings (General Tso's Flavor) - Spicy Crunch Salad Each of these tasted so unique and flavorful. The Spicy crunch salad is a sleeper hit for sure. Its coconut flavor and different textures make it a satisfying sweet and crunchy salad that is very filling (it's large!! Very shareable!!) and refreshing and reminds me of some Asian and Latin flavors all in one. Beers are always good, and I love that there's a rotating beer list as well as classics. I had a coffee kolsch (can't remember the name) but it smelled so good and fragrant like smelling a bag of coffee beans but also was very refreshing with just enough coffee flavor. I also love that you can order small pours so you can try lots of beers! I've been here 3 times this summer already and will be back again soon!

    Smash Burger and BCS Milkshake

Got a chance to stop by on a nice, warm spring afternoon during lunch. I came the week after they opened and we were in luck as we got there when they opened and were the first in line. This is located right by the very popular Salt Shed outdoor concert venue. I was told you can hear the show if dining while a concert is happening in which I imagine the place is packed at that point. Once inside, we were greeted by the very cool Deanna. She was awesome and very good about telling us whats what on the menu. I had seen so many posts about the Smash Burger so I had to get it! It of course comes with fries and its a very good burger! The BCS Milkshake was good as well...a little boozy and worth the purchase. We got some good beer...I took down the Pass The Mic and Kaleidoscope Cuvee. The nice view of the city makes this for a perfect lunch stop as well as a nighttime dinner spot for music and views! They have items like shirts, mugs and other Goose Island merch to purchase. I recommend coming as you get great food, beer, service, views and live music. What more can you want?!

Literally can't say enough good things about this new location. I loved the Clybourn location, but the Salt Shed location is really great! Every member of their staff I've encountered here is warm and welcoming! The whole restaurant set up is super comfortable - there's not a bad spot to sit in the whole place, especially on a beautiful day by the river. I love the menu board too. The food here is fantastic, everything I've tried so far has been delicious. Pork rinds, cheese curds, pretzel, wings, pork sandwich, smash burger, pop tart, and peanut butter cookie ice cream sandwich. I would order (and have) each one of these items again and again. The burger is in my top 5! They also have their go to beers here and some new favs. And for my NA friends, they have 2 (IMO, 2 of the best) Go Brewing NA beers here too! Their tropical IPA is my go to NA beer. Also, lowkey a great place to work from on a slow afternoon.

I had been wanting to try Industry Ales when it opened and was glad to have had the opportunity to finally check it out! I was slightly thrown off, as the dining tables are at the front of this space, and the bar is all the way at the back. In fact, my friend at first glance thought it was a sit-down dining establishment sans bar seating. We found our way to the bar and posted up at two seats. We were offered menus right away and found the bartender extremely knowledgeable. This was super helpful when facing down an encyclopedia of ales. He offered samples when we explained what we were looking for. That is service above and beyond, especially on a bustling Friday early evening. The brews were tasty, but I couldn't really discern what I was drinking apart to say it was a lighter Belgian Ale. Wine is more in my wheelhouse, but always good to change things up, especially when a person has the opportunity to be guided by an expert. The people seated nearby had ordered the tuna tartare which looked delicious. In fact, all of the menu is globally influenced (think: pizza samosas, pierogis, Korean BBQ) in addition to the classic brewpub favorites. In addition to the Brewpub, this location features the Millroom, a speakeasy-style lounge. I did not have a chance to check that out on this visit. Definitely a cut above the usual sports bar and a place to expand one's knowledge of brews.

If they tell you the wait is 2 hours and you have 2 hours to kill, there are a bunch of bars in the area where you can have some drinks and an appetizer (and not feel like you're stiffing Au Cheval; they're the ones with the 2 hour wait, what do they expect people to do?) Not much to say about the decor or ambience; it's a typically loud West Loop bar with mostly 20 - 30 somethings all trying to one-up each other with their trendiness that instead makes them all basically clones of each other. It is crowded, and you're a moron if you think any place like this is suitable for your 5 year old. That's not the restaurant's fault - it's not Chuck E Cheese. Often I wish Yelp offered a 1/2 star option, because there are places that are a 4.5 or a 3.5. Not in this case. 3 stars is spot-on.

Checked out this local brewery. Great Central is one of a few around here. It has a pretty good…read morevariety. For certain it's not the most extensive but there's some interesting things to choose from. This is also a great place for gatherings and parties. Beers are the main thing of course. It's basically the only thing to be honest. There's not even any TVs for watching games or whatever. Focus more on the beers. It's about $7 a pint. Best we had of these was the Hefeweizen. This is a pretty standard German one. Also they make cans of sparkling water for those not wanting alcohol. The taproom is pretty big with long tables. Has no TVs meaning there's no big crowds for games. This is great for those not watching any types of sports. Find a few great beers here. It's located close to the Ashland Green Line station. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

We found a place at the bar and were greeted right away! She explained what they brew etc and we were able to easily chat with the bartenders. They were attentive and friendly. The place is loud, but we would definitely recommend and would come back (in from out of town). Beers were delicious!

The service was genuinely friendly, and the ambiance gives off such a welcoming, cozy vibe. There's even a fireplace you can sit by during cold Chicago winters, which is a really nice touch. I sat at the bar, and the bartenders -- honestly, the entire staff -- were super personable. You can crack jokes and they'll play right along with you, which makes the whole experience feel relaxed and fun. I ordered the pulled pork skillet and it did not miss. They make your eggs however you want (within reason), and everything came out perfectly. While not the cheapest in town, the value is absolutely there given the quality of the beers and food -- prices feel totally reasonable for River North. Shoutout to Tessa, Tony, and the whole crew -- they really make you feel like a regular. As Tessa would say: Go Birds!

Bavarian Pretzel was incredible. Happy Hour beers are a bit of a sham. Great ambience for some bar food and an evening of trying unique beers. They have a great hosting space upstairs too for grad parties, work events, etc. Main reason for my lower rating was our waitress was insanely slow for a light Thursday crowd. Waited 20 minutes before seeing anyone after being sat, waited 30 minutes for the check, waited another 20 minutes for her to run the check so we could leave. I've never experience service quite that bad... would recommend sitting at the bar if you have a small party.
