Me and my gal pal Koral went to have a lovely afternoon looking for trinkets at the local goodwill facility. While there I noticed their furniture section was looking hefty and mighty fine. TMI i have been having some mental issues these pass few decades but due to lack of funds I have never gotten the therapist experience. But goodwill gave me a wonderful idea to make myself my own therapist room and hire Somone to come to my house for a lot cheaper. In goodwills furniture section there was chair resembling the furniture lounge equipment you would see in a therapist room on tv. So like any rational person would do I went to go check it out, see if it's comfortable you know! But as me and Koral were sitting on the chair we heard a squeak from behind us. It was a Goodwill employee who informed us that we could not sit on the furniture. Excuse me! This is not a boutique this is the freaking goodwill! I can't test out the furniture before buying? I am utterly disrespected! I have never heard of such rule before that you can't sit on furniture. Especially since this is the goodwill and the furniture items can be broken and dirty! If you're in the mood to search for some treasures, this place is cool. I highly suggest you come when they open and wear gloves!! I've been here a few times and on one of my first visits, a lady named Maria rung me up and she was so rude. I don't understand why they put people with no customer service skills, in a position that deals with customers. Poor management decision there. As far as the other staff, no issues but most, if not all, look like they don't want to be there. A little tip, when they are bringing out the bins, nobody touches anything until that whole yellow taped off section (about 4-6? Bins) are all out. Then everyone digs in. You can see in my photo the yellow taped off section on the ground. There's multiple sections like that and they switch out the bins but everyone waits until each section being switch out is fully there before grabbing anything. I have noticed people grabbing any and everything to put in their baskets then later go through the stuff they grabbed and decide what they actually like. They just grab to grab stuff then see if they got anything good. I personally like looking through the books. Sometimes it can be a struggle to get through an aisle because of everyone's baskets they leave. And they like to stand in the aisles on their phones waiting for new bins to come out so that can be frustrating. If you're looking for larger items, they have furniture and power tools towards the back. Near the registers they have grab bags of random things for $10. The prices for items are hanging right above the register. Some things are charged by the pound. It is hit or miss so don't come with big expectations. Recently they listed a Chanel bag that is clearly a fake, I've brought up many times for this one item stating all the reasons it's not real. They refuse to take it down knowing it's a fraudulent sale. Anyone who knows real Chanel can look at this and quickly know it's a bad fake and they continue to keep it up and it's reached over $700 in bids. I'm reading all the reviews for this place and I'm floored. Do people expect Goodwill to look like Nordstrom's? Or be run like The Bay? Or have the layout of a Costco? Or have an employee pool like The Four Seasons? Really? For what this place is, it's THE BOMB (as the kids say). It's fantastic. I was blown away when my kid brought me here. Let me give you the backstory: My daughter is a fashionista. VERY much into the latest trends. She also is into sustainability and waste reduction. And, like her mama, she strives to find a good deal whenever possible. She comes here often, every week or so, sometimes for a few hours at a time, picking through the huge bins full o' stuff. And she FaceTimes me after each visit, to show me her finds. Sometimes there's nothing. Sometimes there's a Burberry coat or a Chanel sweater. (I am NOT kidding). You just never know what you might find. So during my recent visit to Portland, she brought me here. (She calls it "The Bins"). There is a huge parking lot here (nice!). The place inside resembles a cavernous, open warehouse with rows of parallel deep bins. The bins are each full of a variety of items: clothes, household items (including small appliances), kids' games and puzzles, vases and artwork, lots of party and holiday decorations, crafting supplies, books, lunchboxes and backpacks.... the list goes on and on. And to the rear of the warehouse are the larger items: furniture (desks, sideboards, dressers, night tables, chairs, etageres), bikes, and a huge selection of tools and medium-sized toolshed and wood shop tools and machinery. Tip: my kid keeps a box of disposable gloves in her car specifically for her trips to The Bins, and she and I wore them while sifting through everything. The bins and the items weren't dirty - not that I saw, anyhow, - but of course everything is used and/or were worn, and it's just more hygienic. Also, she washes everything immediately upon bringing things home from here. She won't try on the clothing until it's been through the laundry. FYI. In the back of the warehouse I saw 3 artificial trees for $5 and $10 each, and they were tall and looked real, and I've seen comparable fake trees for over $100 CDN. For real. If I had more room in my car for the drive back to Vancouver (BC), I'd have snatched them up. They were for A STEAL. While I was there my kid got a bunch of artsy Xmas gift labels (this kind that cost a lot at Hallmark stores). For a STEAL. She also got some summery clothes that were bright and happy and in perfect condition. (Note: prices are based on weight here, with different rates per pound for clothes vs. glass stuff vs. electronics, etc.. What I found super cool is how they calculate the price of your order. If your cart is full of clothes, for example, you just put your cart on the floor by the cash and there is a scale embedded in the floor, and they just weigh your cart. No need to take anything out of the cart, or put stuff on the counter. They will separate the electronic stuff from the clothes, though. It was all super efficient and I've never seen this before anywhere). While I was there, I saw employees regularly take away various bins that were getting low on merchandise and bringing in new bins from the back employee rooms. So there were new items being brought in continuously. I'm not sure if the employees who work here are volunteers (I think they are), but for sure they are all people who have gone through the system. Folks who were down on their luck and then were trained by Goodwill and helped by the organization and now work at the place. And I say, good on them! Such a great organization. My kid and I feel good, shopping here and supporting their mission. And doing our part in re-using and recycling and reducing our purchasing new items. And it's fun, never knowing what you might find. So for all the folks complaining about this place not being run like Macy's or having employees who are curt or "rude", or bins full of things that have been "picked over", or shopping alongside folks who may be down on their luck or rough around the edges, I say, get a life. Store is now about useless. anything with any worth is picked by employees. rotations are now a few times a day. Not Hour. Sold online or at retail stores. what they sell online, you can no longer pick up. Some kind of clever. No pickup? What a joke.. The whole idea is to make as much as can for goodwill execs. with no concern for those that relied on the store. where's the local goodwill? none... Who ever came up with no pickup should be fired. Most outlets in the us are pickup and shipping. zero idea how ship only can be more profitable. Kind of what I expected. Dirty bins and lots of competitive people picking through broken and odd stuff. But you do find some gems so I like to go and discover stuff I never knew I wanted. Bought a few jackets, a few books and a never worn LLBean wool sweater. Worst customer service ever. I paid for my items and asked for an extended time to get a u-haul. What a fraud! They took the items and sold the items I paid for to someone else. They dont even bother to call the customers before they re-sell their properties. Being late doesn't justify what they did, they could have changed extra money as a late fee as to consider them storing them in their store. They put two items of the ones I purchased out to resell and I ended up re-paying for the same items they didn't refund me back for anything to begin with. Certainly this is fraud that need to be legally discussed with an attorney and above all no apologies. My blood pressure scored really high afterwards, since I couldn't absorb the manipulation level they pursued. No one needs to go through this!! After all this is a donation center?!! As several have said it is very hard to rate this place. I did bring cheap garden gloves to protect my hands from anything sharp I might have encountered in the bins and I brought hand sanitizer but didn't get into anything yucky. Everything is sold by the pound the more you buy the cheaper it is well the heavier it is the cheaper it is they have a lot of clothing. There were obviously people here that were pickers, for resale. This is sort of out of the way if you're not used to being over on this side of town but right across from the Fred Meyer so I take that back it's not that far out of the way definitely worth a stop or two just to have the experience. This was my first time and I didn't really find anything tempting enough to bother buying but who knows maybe next time. read more

I won an auction run through this location, but due to a glitch with their site, my high bid was greater than it should have been. I've tried to contact them through their site THREE times. It's a little wordy to explain what happened, so I asked them to call me and I could walk through the bid history to show them what went wrong. They finally responded with, essentially, "well, you won the bid so there's no problem." That might be the dumbest customer service response I've ever received. I wouldn't have contacted them three times if there were no problem; and the fact that they can't figure out the problem on their own doesn't mean there's not a problem. This seems to be one of those charity sites who believe that because they're a charity, they don't have to provide any customer service when something goes wrong. I will be happy to pay the correct high bid amount, but not their erroneous one. And for sure I'm never bidding on anything from them again. Life's too short for this kind of aggravation. read more

Went to the outlet this morning and as I was preparing to check out when the debit credit system was having tech issues. No problem, but I didn't have cash. I asked the Assitant manager if I could leave my purchases by the primary register to get cash. When I returned with cash to pay for my items (anout 10 minutea), the cashier, Katherine had put them back in the bins. She claimed she didn't know what happened to them. So I got the assistant manager's attention again, she asked Katherine if she put them in the bins and she said she probably did because there was no note on them. She's been known to be rude to several customers, but nothing seems to be done about her. read more

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Success story at the 'Goodwill Outlet', Hillsboro, OR. We went to the "Goodwill Outlet" in Hillsboro, Oregon right off TV Hwy yesterday. My husband found a ball point pen for 10 cents. And not just any ballpoint pen. Estimated worth? $1600, probably more. The pen we found is a Mont Blanc very rare, limited edition 75th anniversary ball point pen hand stamped (not etched) with its series number. It has mother of pearl on the crown, 23k rose gold and a diamond set in the "O" of "75 YEARS OF PASSION" written on the band. There are only 1924 of this series made in the world. (I will take a photo in natural light and post it.) The story goes: We were driving by and I asked my husband if he wanted to stop. He said "Sure." So we stopped and went in. My husband was in the this 'Goodwill Outlet' and "saw" "in his minds eye": "There is a Mont Blanc in here somewhere." He looked once, did not find it. Came back 10 minutes later? And there it was stuck in between a crack. Since purchases are, generally, by the pound at the "Goodwill Outlet"? The lady felt the weight in her hand and told my husband "Ah, probably 3 cents." But after putting it on the scale? it was heavier than she thought. She had to break the bad news to him. It would be 10 cents. He bucked up and paid it. This is 4 cents more than he paid for the wood crucifix he got at this same "Goodwill Outlet" that came all the way from Jerusalem that he sent to his friend who is a nun who had always wants a wood set. My husband has three other Mont Blanc pens -- none of which he has ever paid for - they have always, somehow, come to him. This is the most expensive one yet -- at 10 cents. So he gave it to me, which is, now, my first Mont Blanc. He said "It is In keeping with family tradition." In other words, it was free to me just as his other three were to him. This pen really stands out from the others, though. This pen is in perfect condition, is *gorgeous*, is a ladies traveling pen which is shorter than his, and the 23k rose gold is "fatter" than his more flat finish gold on his three pens. It is simply beautiful. Great way to start my new business. I guess this trumps the gorgeous $500 chunk of turquoise we have in our fish tank. Yeah, you can say we are a fan of Goodwill. We go all the time (shopping and donating). And the 'Goodwill Outlet'? You just have to see it to believe it. Note that not all are created equal. The one in Vancouver, WA is not nearly as good as the one in Hillsboro, OR. Just bring something to wash your hands off after a visit there. This is really not as bad or smelly as I remembered it or perhaps my nose just matured. The bins are roughly sorted as in, clothes are in a bin of their own as well as books, toys, media/audio stuff, etc. The bins themselves is disorganized. It is picking through the stuff for those gems that is the real fun. You can seriously fill a wardrobe with the things you find here and it's really not that bad. There's this misconception that its all crap but you know what they say, someone's trash is another person's treasure. I can't even tell you how many cool things and knick knacks that we have discovered. On one recent visit, we came home with a small box full of 80's/early 90's rap music. Cassettes of NWA, Public Enemy, even some that were unknown to me like Gucci Crew II (currently on my Pandora station and oh man, the tunes make me want to groove and do the running man). What a find! There's lots brand name items that you can find here if you look for it. I want to tell everyone to go but....that would only create more competition for me so if you're under the misnomer that this place sucks. Keep thinking that. It sucks so bad, I don't think you should come here. At all. In fact, all that Nike stuff that you covet, it's not here. Go to the Nike store in downtown and purchase those awesome Dri-fit shirts at full cost. You know you want to. The con to this place is that there are a lot of people who bring their kids and they're there all day it seems like. Those dang kids are underfoot constantly. Tie those kids up to your cart if you must bring them because next time, I'm probably going to end up tripping over one of them and accidentally kicking him/her in the face because you, mom/dad, weren't paying attention and your kid is sitting in the middle of a busy aisle playing superhero with dirty dolls. Oh! And speaking for dirty, note to the noob, wash your hands when you're done shopping here. Wash everything and for goodness sakes, don't be trying on stuff. I have heard all the puffing about how filthy this place is and that you should bring gloves which is never a bad idea when you are sorting through other peoples detritus. Seriously. I do this kind of stuff for a living and gloves are HIGHLY recommended. Now I only donate here, and sometimes they are very picky about what they are accepting. Really? I can't fathom that when I know what kind of stuff they are selling (for actual money) inside. I stopped by here at 6:45am on a weekday morning to drop off some donations. I was "greeted" by a man who told me they open at 8:00am. I asked if I could just drop off the donations outside the gate (because I didn't need a receipt). He condescendingly told me to read the sign first; that it's illegal. Ok, let's talk about this sign. There is one sign with a TON of words on it -- business hours, policy, branding, miscellaneous information. I did scan the sign when I first arrived, but had to take another 5-10 seconds to see some smaller words in the middle of all the words that it's illegal to leave donations during non-business hours because it is considered dumping. Fine, but I could've been talked to in such a more polite manner. Also, there was someone already there and all he needed to do was open the gate for me to leave my donations. What terrible customer service! I was reminded why I haven't donated to Goodwill in years. For being a multi-billionaire dollar industry, they obviously can't pay for better customer service and we all know their reputation of how they treat their employees. Like that man, I probably wouldn't be jolly either working there. They take free donations and sell it for a profit. What a genius business model, and yet so sheisty all at the same time. I will continue to take my donations elsewhere and you should to. Support your local churches, schools, community in need rather than corporate Goodwill. At least Salvation Army doesn't mind you dropping off donations when they are closed. read more

I visited the Goodwill Outlet store in Hillsboro yesterday evening and was pleasantly surprised! I have visited the Goodwill Outlet in North Portland and can say the Hillsboro location has way better merchandise! I found a Columbia sherpa zip up jacket, two Express tops, an Old Navy sweater and two other garments, all of which totaled $9 and some change. This location has better brand names and items I would genuinely consider buying at a typical thrift store. I only spent an hour at this store but could have easily spent more time here digging for cool items. If you are an experienced thrifter and looking for the BEST secondhand bargains in town, check out this Goodwill Outlet store! I will definitely be back for more! read more

The worst bins yet. Maria is a manager here terrible rude manager and same with her associate that worked with her moonita I spent 160 dollars here today and I'll never go back. The scale read over weight they made pull items out. So I had items all over. Cuz I took so many things out they failed to price a vacuum I got. I went to my car loaded up and was like shoot forgot vacuum. They wanted me to go wait back in line. They just helped the line was huge. They made me take stuff out. I been going here for years never had issues with a scale ever. And the pricing here is rediculous. Other locations charge 7 bucks per vacuum and per receiver audio here nope by wait. I love scrounging around for goodies at the bins and I've found great stuff here. The last time I visited, it was chaos with people crowding together and not wearing masks properly. I ended up leaving empty handed. I wish they'd police people a little better. They do a good job keeping people from diving into bins before they've been placed, so I don't see why they can't tell people to stay distanced and masked. read more

This is a Goodwill Outlet store in Hillsboro. If you have been to the Goodwill Outlet in Milwaukie, aka The Bins, there are some things you can't help but notice about the Hillsboro store, namely: 1. better clothes 2. fewer hipsters 3. longer drive The staff here seems a lot more lenient about letting you sort through items on the furniture, and you might even get a parking spot close to the store. However, you will have found yourself smack dab in nowhere suburbia, which can be an annoying and alienating experience for city slickers. It might be worth it. The usual rules apply: $1.59 a pound for your treasures, and stand behind the yellow line until the new bins come to a full and complete stop in front of you. read more

Let's be real about what this place is: the large majority of Goodwill's outlet stores house merchandise that is being saved from landfills, as in these things did not sell at retail locations or was not pretty enough to go there. Don't kid yourself into thinking this place is totally organized or clean. As others have noted, organization is roughly, "this is cloth substance" and "this has a cord of some kind, therefore making it electrical." You are now a modern day treasure hunter. Got it? Except for the items noted on large signs hanging from the ceiling, all merchandise in the warehouse is priced by the pound. You are now free to roam the large, blue rolling bins held in place by floor tracks. Dig--there is going to be a time you touch something wet. Or sticky. Get over it. Just bring hand sanitizer if you're afraid you'll contract a disease. Don't dig too excitedly--I've been told at other locations that it is not uncommon to find broken glass or a needle, though I've never had that happen at this location. Things are generally ridiculously good priced. Furniture, bikes, large sculptural pieces, you name it, awesome price. Retail Goodwill couldn't sell it for $19.99? Okay, have it for $2.99 now. That brand new Merona/JCrew/Chico's piece--with the original tags on it--also didn't sell at a retail Goodwill? Yours by the pound for less than $1! I do have to complain that the weigh stations have evaporated, so super cheap (er, frugal) people like me can guess how much they're spending. Expect there to be a lot of people, don't be too timid to get your hands into a bin, DON'T pull merchandise from a bin during a bin rotation until that entire row has been set, and good luck. This place is CUR-razy. I walked in looking for some supplies for a costume party, and having never been to an outlet for Goodwills before, I expected a standard store format. Boy was I wrong. Store: a warehouse, with rows of large blue plastic bins. Kind of like what they would bathe a seal or a porpoise in. it feels like a bingo hall, minus the bingo, plus lots of semi-sanitary items for sale. Items: these bins seem to be loosely organized based on clothing/toys/household/electronics. but its very chaotic, the clothing is pretty much what didn't make it out the door at a regular Goodwill. I am generally not a retail snob, but this was a bit too crazy even for me. people used latex gloves as they were sifting through the clothes. gloves. some of the bins seemed to be filled with just as much refuse as they were saleable items. The majority of items are sold by the pound, save for large items and things such as exercise equipment or certain electronics and furniture. I managed to score a nice camera tripod for $3, but I really didn't want to stay here that long. I think even regulars to Goodwill stop by here just for kicks, because it really is too messy and disorganized to make anyone feel like browsing, and the quality of things for sale is really not there. read more

Decided to wander in here ONCE.. NEVER again ! It smelled horrible, there were bins and bins of what looked like garbage that people were rummaging through.. Quite frankly this place grossed me out! I was shocked to walk inside and find people digging like they were, reminded me of pigs at a trough. I won't be back to this location , I'll stick to the retail stores , where I can look through the rack and shelves like a normal civilized person. I've never gone in this store without being mad dogged by "regulars." I heard there might be cool vintage clothing, yet all I found was a bunch of old Massimo tops and used underwear--and almost a quarter of the clothes were wet! I wouldn't shop here unless you really want to experience screaming children who are not being watched by their parents, too busy pushing each other over Target clothing to sell to Buffalo Exchange. read more

LOL! oh sorry, was that rude? This place was a trip! I have been to plenty Goodwill's and I have been to swap meets in South LA. But I have never seen people savagely rummaging through bins like this. It was almost sad..to a point. The only reason I came here was to check out the furiniture items. Surprisingly, they had a great selection of couches and chairs. The prices were not high either which is good. They should'nt be high anyway, but you'd be surprised. Bottom line, I found what I was looking for! Thats why my review is 3 stars instead of 1. I bought an adorable antique looking hutch. And it was $20.00 SCORE!! On my way back towards the front of the store, I decided to just look at some of the items in the bins...I saw absolutely nothing in there that looked decent. Everything was broken or ripped. Goodwill...Outlet?! After driving by a couple of times, my curiosity got the best of me. What is this place? And why does it smell like BO and muskiness? Well, if you want to wade through troughs to find something useful or potentially vintage, come here if you dare. In this cold warehouse, large bins that are constantly cycled in where goodwill literally dumps misc toys, clothes, books, and household items. There are also TVs, a few bikes and "art". There is no sorting or order of any kind. Priced by weight, you get what you pay for...what goodwill deems unsuitable for their retail stores. Gets very crowded! It's the leftovers and just dropped in the bins for you to rummage through. When they bring out a new one, watch out, there are some serious scavengers here. Just went there tonight, after getting stuck in traffic and giving up on going downtown. I wanted to find some jacked up furniture that I could refurbish like I see on Pinterest. Find something, sand it down, paint it Martha Stewart green or something. I walked in and immediately wanted to just turn around from the smell. It's a weekday, right after work, and there are babies crying, kids running laps, and adults with gloves digging in the bins. I walked past SOMETHING that smelled like it was drenched in cat urine. But I headed towards the furniture in the way back, and just didn't look to my left or right on the way there. Easily, I saw a dresser I could visualize as awesome. And a minute later, a long table with those funky curved legs and thin line carvings in it. Real wood, just dirty and chipped. $15. Great service, and I'm so excited to have this little project to work on. Whatever you do, don't touch anything with your bare hands. I couldn't do a surgical wash fast enough! read more

It's hard for me to really rate this place........ On the one hand - crazy bargains are to be had. CRAZY! Clothing and household goods sold by the pound, with other items priced lower than low. Best find? I've scored a $5 TV/VCR combo (with DVD hookups), working just fine, that's now living the life in my home office. They've got insane deals on furniture - $3 -$20 couches, chairs, etc. It's all the merch that didn't sell at the regular Goodwill, but honestly, I'm not sure why a lot of it didn't sell. I think they ship some stuff directly here when the regular Goodwill stores get overloaded. There is no reason to have a cute couch in good condition for $5! There is some high-quality stuff with insanely low prices - not all of it is rockin' by any means, but there are some definite good buys. On the other hand, this places can make Walmart on Black Friday look calm. Picture a huge warehouse-type space filled with ginormous industrial bins. The bins are organized by type of merchandise, but that's where the organizations stops. The bins get rotated on a regular basis, with newly filled bins being pushed through magical doors - Goodwill staff will actually announce which bins will be rotated next, and customers will line up where that bin will be placed, awaiting its arrival, and digging in like there's no tomorrow. I'm telling you, its nutty pants of America. If you can put up with this type of environment, or if you just want to see something totally nuts, stop in. But bring a large vehicle, in case you score a $5 couch. I wouldn't recommend going unless you're confident in your immune system. Just sayin'. read more

COMPLETE BS. I was buying a cheap shelf for my shed and on the way out I found an empty photo book, the shelf was 10$ and it's clearly displayed that hard cover books are 2.29$! I got irritated reading the low reviews for this location. I mean, c'mon, ya'll. Let's rate the establishment for the type of establishment it is. The quality of the goods and service received FOR THE TYPE of establishment IT IS. So, with that said. I've seen the SIZE of this place driving by, and hell, I've even Google map viewed it. I know what I'm up against with this clearly marked outlet. I'm going to the 'The Goodwill OUTLET Store', The Goodwill Bins', 'The Goodwill Warehouse' I've heard it called many things and clean and cute has NEVER been one of them. Y'all have gotten spoiled with those color coding racks. ;) I mean, the photos here are spot on and I was STILL shocked when I walked in and saw the absolute SIZE of this warehouse and just rows and rows upon rows of hidden treasures! Big blue plastic bins, that roll if you push you enough (be careful y'all), HEAPING PILES and mounds of unorganized clothes, TONS of luggage. SO.MUCH.LUGGAGE. Is it gross?? Hell yes. It IS kinda gross. It's like going to 50 yard sales in ONE day. Heck. Maybe even 100. It's crazy how much there is to touch and sort through. Look, let's get real. I don't know what ANY Goodwill is going to have "clean" or not, let alone yard sale hoppin' around... gross. So, to me, to give this place 1 star because it was "gross". Gtfo with that nonsense. THAT'S a perfect example of why people don't trust yelp reviews. Do I think there should be urine or dirty clothes or any of these other weird claims, no. Of course, not. My gloves. For the love of all that is a plastic bin, where are my gloves?! Stupid hoodie and this HAIR?! Where is my hair tie? Am I crushing my phone as I lean in? Did I drop my keys from the pocket into the heaping pile of lost dreams and hard earned dollars?! Thank goodness I was alone or my partner would have been passed out on the couches waitin' on my ass! OH! and I was super thankful for my leggings. My comfy, bend-where-I-wanna, stretch all around leggings. *Sugar Threads, Jo Sampson on FB. She aint no LLR or buskin sillyness, a legit local mom working from home...in leggings.* Again. I digress. I found a cute reusable grocery bag, duh, they're literally everywhere in the bins, and tossed my goods inside and slung that baby over my shoulder and got to work, ya'll. About 90 mins later I was carrying the most eclectic grouping of items in this bag. I had sticker sheets, high-end scrapbook paper, a new purse, slinkies, tons of Halloween stuff, and my big find was a whole LOT of Shopkins. Literally. I got 100 Shopkins, PLUS the bakery shop for $2.11 TWO.DOLLARS.AND.ELEVEN.CENTS. TWOOOOOOO DOOOLLLLARRRRRRRSSS, y'all. FOR. A HUNDRED. SHOPKINS. I'm silly, yes. BUT I'll soon be the dutchess here, bc of my new hobby of dollhouses and miniatures. I have collected 7 houses over the past year and now it's time to get the insides filled up! I am literally looking for everything everyone else just tosses and doesn't think about... the itty, bitty, plastic, metal, bits that accumulate and when you've been cleaning house for three hours and vacuuming for four you say, screw this little 1:12 vase and this entire set of barbie shoes. Go ahead. Do it. Do it, because I'll be waiting to find them and put them in the closet of the Jenkins Manor I'm still working on. (Yelp reviews are fun with beer.) So. To the pansies & twatwaffles out there giving this place any less than 4 stores, pffft. Hawthorne Goodwill is calling and they miss you paying $12 for ONE item when I just got 8lbs of EVERYTHING for $11.02 . ELEVEN.DOLLARS. The stuff that didn't even weigh a 10th of a pound had $5 and $8 Goodwill price tags on them. It BLOWS my mind. I've also learned I will never donate in a Rubbermaid container or reusable bag again. I can not believe the insatiable amount of these items that are there at any given time in almost EVERY bin. Crazy. Employees are friendly, very helpful and not annoyed with me or my inquiries yet. One guy told me today not to sort ON the tables in the back, bc people want to shop and may not if I'm takin' up space counting my trinkets and bric-a-brac. That made sense. I will be back. For the true crafter or those who take reduce/re-use/and recycle to the extreme (that isn't a bad thing!) this place is the best! Yes, it is chaos on steroids, but it is worth it. When you can purchase just about everything by the pound (and dirt cheap) it's like the worlds most awesome garage sale. Because the organization stops at "this bin holds things made of fabric, this bin holds glassware, this bin holds tech,and this bin holds books, it is more like treasure hunting. You have to pick through the stuff you don't want to find the stuff you do. Quilters and fabric crafters can find clothing made of everything from silk to cotton to leather to velvet, take it home, cut it apart, and make something new of it. Cut the sleeves from wool or cashmere sweaters and make them into arm warmers that you can sell for $10/pair (or more if you embroider/bead/felt wool into them). Furniture is cheap as all hell, and so are the bicycles. Books (last I was there) were 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks. This includes antique books. My best book find was a first year second printing of Gone with the Wind that I gifted to a friend for Yule. She cried and treasures that book. I really love the place despite the chaos. I'm wheelchair bound so reaching across the bins can be a pain in the rear for me so I bring one of my sons along who has a long reach. :) The one thing you have to watch out for is other shoppers. If they see something in your cart that they like, they may try to snatch it when you're not looking. I almost lost a pair of crutches that I used before I got the wheelchair in just that manner. I found them in someone else's cart, grabbed them back, and told them to quit poaching because 1) it's just rude and 2) next time I'd call the cops because they had stolen my personal property. They shrugged and went back to picking through a bin. So lesson learned: anything you want to hold onto, find a way to attach it to your cart and don't let your cart out of your sight. read more

THE BINS! I discovered this accidentally. And I didn't bring gloves or anything so I just sort of lightly browsed. I had my eyes on a pair of MATCHING rollerblades but they weren't sized. They would've only been like $4 by weight! This is a competitive affair, not unlike Walmart on Black Friday, depending on which particular bin you are browsing. Beware! read more
