I'm surprised that I had not previously discovered this terrific meat free cafe and bakery. Plant based and plastics free the philosophy of nutritional and sustainable to benefits one's health and the environment makes Goodsugar worthy of a visit. For lunch recently I really enjoyed a Protein Power Wrap which contained chickpeas, potato, sauteed zucchini, carrots with assorted seasonings along with a cup of peppercorn dressing. Served as a hot burrito it was delicious, and as a drink I had an Electrolyte Lemonade which was a nice way to stay hydrated. They offer a large selection of jarred over ice drinks, soups, hot foods, salads, pastries, coffee drinks, wraps, smoothies, bowls, juices, and more. There is so much to choose from here with an assortment of items in displays. A very good option for healthier eating. There are some tables and chairs to sit and dine at. read more

The ginger coffee from here is good but the place was SO loud it gave me a headache. I also had a muffin which was shockingly good even though you could tell it was healthy, I would proably stop in again if I needed something but wouldn't go out of my way and I definitely wouldn't stay. read more

This place is really good for eating healthy, tasty food, even though I'm not vegan or gluten-free, I really appreciated it. The servers were friendly and the space is neat and well designed with plenty of places to sit. I enjoyed the Caesar salad quite a bit and enjoyed the zucchini tartlet although it would be nice if it had more zucchinis and less mushrooms! The food left me feeling good after eating. What an interesting place, a good concept of "natural" ingredients plus compostable or recyclable or reusable dishes and utensils. I brought my visiting grandchild here because he needs to be gluten free and dairy free. Menu is on paper or up on the wall, and you order at the counter; things are made to order. Lined up in front of the counter are mason jars of juices and teas. He chose the vegan caesar salad, comes with romaine, crispy chickpeas, and a vegan approximation of caesar dressing. He also ordered the cauliflower poppers - we shared those, very good. I had the sweet potato "sofrito burrito," which was very good and very filling! Both burrito and poppers came with little container of sauce. Popper one had a wee kick of spice. Grandson also chose a matcha latte, pricey but tasty if you like sweet tea. Altogether a satisfying lunch, though he wasn't wild about the salad. They have some kind of loyalty program; I think the gal at the counter said if I bring back the jar from the matcha I'd get 50cents off my next order, or something similar. There are a few small, round, stationary tables to sit at. With 2 bowls, one side and one beverage, we needed 2 tables, they're that small. My grandson was cute - he went to dispose of his bowl but couldn't find a compost bin. He asked and a counter person told him they don't have one! He had us carry the bowls and utensils home to put into the compost bin in my building. So they don't do a good job of follow through on the concept, but their ingredients are good. Decent food, a little pricey, not sure I'd go back except with someone whose diet requires what they serve, but I didn't go hungry! read more

This is my new spot. I have been ordering multiple items at a time from here via DoorDash and Uber eats. Due to the healthy ingredients I am able to get at clean on the go! Love the glass packaging! My favorites have been the Thai noodles and the pistachio cookie. I have mixed feelings about the cedar salad. It's good but the dressing needs less salt. read more

You also get to keep the mason jar and can bring it back for discounts on your next drink. The Blue Skies had a great blend of flavors with none overpowering the other. It may look like a simple juice bar at first glance, but goodsugar is much more than that. Their food is top-notch: extremely fresh, flavorful, and most importantly healthy in a way that is virtually impossible to find anywhere else in NYC. Every item had ingredients listed, and they are high-quality ingredients. Everything is organic, seed-oil free, and refined sugar free. Many items such as some of the baked goods are oil-free(!!); others have olive oil only; a few items unfortunately still contain coconut oil. The hot food items like the burritos are made with extra virgin olive oil. We devoured the happy muffin (made with cacao nibs), the beauty berries muffin, the pecan bliss bar, the peanut butter cookie, and the chocolate chip cookie (all oil-free). The muffins are the best of the baked goods but every item was awesome in its own way. On the savory side, the must-order item is the sofrito burrito. By far the best vegan burrito in the city. It's hearty and fantastic, with adzuki beans, wild rice, and sweet potato. It comes with cashew queso. The downtown burrito is the burrito in distant second place; it's filled with a mash of chickpeas and potatoes that is hot and tasty but falls short of the sofrito burrito. It comes with a side of homemade salsa that is felicitous. The zucchini tartlet was downright weird - more accurately described as a mushroom tart with zucchini garnish. The juices are awesome (try the Rude Awakening if you dare). Also, they are entirely free of single-use plastic. Just about everything is served in a cute mason jar, and they offer a rebate in their rewards program if you return the jar. I hope they expand to more locations. In a city where vegan restaurants are commonplace, goodsugar stands out for actually acknowledging that people nowadays care about what's inside their food, not just about the taste. read more

I stopped at Goodsugar because it showed up as an all-vegan spot on the Happy Cow app, and I was impressed with the food and their eco-friendly packaging. They have this chocolatey bar, I think it's the Keto Energy Bar, that is so delicious and I feel healthy/energized after, it tastes fresh baked and not too sweet, but it also tastes like a treat, not a "health" snack. I'm looking forward to eating those on my next NYC trip, and hopefully getting my kid to eat them too. The staff is friendly. I once ordered the last of a parfait that was frozen and meant to be eaten at home and they gave me a bowl of hot water to thaw it in so I could eat it there. I keep expecting there to be more locations, I'm so used to new venture capital funded places where you've never heard of it and the next day there are like 20 locations. I chanced across goodsugar during their opening days during my walk back from work, and being a sucker for overpriced smoothies in the city (a la juice press), of course I had to step in. I ordered the blue skies smoothie, which was made to order and given to me in a cute mason jar and a biodegradable boba-type straw. My smoothie was thick and creamy and delicious, without any actual dairy. Took it to Central Park to enjoy. Overall, really like the concept of this store. It feels very clean and organic inside, wish they had some more nutritional information about their menu items. The jars are nice, and if you bring them back (you don't even have to buy something the second time), you get some sort of credit/reward system that builds up. Looking forward to trying more smoothies or green juices post workout class! It's definitely overpriced but what do you expect. read more

Goodsugar is a fun new vegan edition to the UES neighborhood! It is a juice + smoothie + salad shop also with yummy vegan baked goods! I tried the vegan banana bread ($5) made with fairly simple ingredients (almond flour, maple syrup, buckwheat flour, bananas of course) and it was AMAZING!! I am an absolute banana bread lover, and have tried several vegan banana breads, and this is definitely up there. I would love to try their other baked goods as well- I saw muffins and cookies. :) I also got the vegan caesar salad with roasted chickpeas ($12)- this was ok. I think it could have used a bit more pizzazz such as avocado, maybe mushroom "bacon", tomatoes. The herb seasoning was a bit too strong. But it was still yummy and a nice generous portion. I added a few more add ins at home to boost up the salad. Some other menu items I saw included a vegan burrito. Didn't try any of the juices- it is pretty standard market market price of $9-$10. Smaller "booster" shots (e.g. turmeric shots) are ~$4-5 I think. I don't think cold press juices are a new concept, but they do come in mason jars and it says if you bring back the jar you get a credit. The vibe of the store is really cool- not sure how to describe it. Graphics and colors are bold, with a lot of "pro-plant-based" messaging. Not much seating- it is meant to be a grab & go place probably. Overall, I would go back for sure for the vegan treats. read more

I am a fan of the smoothies but everything else is just okay to me. The coffee cashews are decent as well. The juices kind of let me down, I don't find them awful but I don't find myself wanting more or going back to get more. I have tried a bunch of them and they might be perfect for other people but just not my wave. The place itself is decorated wonderfully and the mission and the vibe of the place is spot on! They use healthier replacements to sugar and that cuts the guilt of indulgence. I loved the zucchini muffin and couldn't make out that it was made with sugar substitute. I have been trying to be more health conscious about what I put in my body and the ingredients I ingest. I've popped into goodsugar a few times and have been pleasantly surprised with each treat I've tried. I've tried many of their baked goods, and find them to be absolutely decadent considering they're the "healthier" alternative of a treat. Yes, some of the pastries are a bit pricy, but some are quite reasonable (I believe a cookie is $2.50) To be honest, the decadence rivals items with butter and unlimited sugar. Medicina shot is good a little spicy. Banana bread pudding is good tastes like nice cream with small cookie crumbles in it. Pistachio cookie sandwich is good tastes like shortbread cookie. Beauty berries muffin is good but needs more blueberries. Acai bowl is good a little tangy but very creamy and doesn't melt too fast and is a huge portion.
