The trails have LED lights in the ice so you know where to go. Fun for all ages with a live dj and village to get drinks, beer and food. Get your tickets, locker and skate rental online then type in your code at the machine it js much cheaper. The food was great and bar had hot winter drinks I tried a whiskey blueberry beverage with original sausage. Go once the sun is down and all the trees are lit up. Easily accessibly by the tram or subway from most areas of town.

The Kaiserkrainers are also pretty good too. Apart from the usual there are burgers and wraps and a pita stand too just in case you are in the mood for something different. As with last time everyone is very friendly and happy to help. What fun it is to watch the skaters go around and not have to worry about bumping into any of them. Almost as much fun as being on the ice, ALMOST but not quite! Itching to get back on the ice!

There also is an ice skating rink but it's more like a go kart track with a meandering path instead of a large oval. The setting is really beautiful. I had read online about the large Christmas market and was anxious to visit, despite comments from locals about the lack of quality- and they were right. It's a really festive looking place with musical acts performing at the base of a giant Christmas tree but the more than 150 booths seemed to be mostly trash and trinkets. There were so many better markets especially the Am Hof square market and the one by the schronnbrun palace or art museum.

There are a number of Christmas markets in various parks and squares in the central city. These are within walking distance of one another so you can visit as many as you have the stamina for in an evening. The markets are comprised of small kiosks which sell Christmas ornaments, refreshments, etc. There are crowds but everything is clean and orderly. I was there with my wife and my daughter, her husband and their two children. With the kids it was an amazing Christmas experience. My daughter and I also attended a midnight mass on Christmas Eve at the Jesuit church. We aren't Catholic and speak no German but we felt very welcome and Silent Night gives the same uplifting feeling in either language. This was perhaps the high point of the visit for me. We rented a vrbo near the central part of the city and enjoyed dining in (including Christmas dinner) as well as the many restaurants nearby. I had not been to Vienna in many years and had forgotten what a lovely city it is. Great museums, dining and courteous, helpful people. Maybe it was the time of year but Vienna seems less crowded and touristy than many European cities have become. We had a really great family experience.

A wonderful park in Vienna!…read more The park is massive, and I know there is a wide path that runs through the park, and is just over 4km long. This is the only place where I have been, well, that and the amusement park. I know that there are plenty of wide open green spaces to picnic, sunbathe, or whatever else people do in wide open green spaces. Pretty much there is something for everyone. There is a playground, a skate park, a bowling alley, some restaurants, a lake?, and some sports facilities, and of course benches.(which are conveniently located on the side paths - not the main "road".) No vehicles aside from human powered, Segways, buggies, and the occasional emergency vehicle. There is a road that runs perpendicular, but aside from a bus and occasional car, it is not very busy. Aside from fresh manure from our horse friends, the park is kept very clean. I am thrilled that people respect it enough not to litter! I also know there's a cute train called the Liliputbahn that runs through the park. My only criticisms right now are that I would like there to be a city-bike station closer to the other end (there's two near the amusement park end), and a few maps along the main path.

The Prater Hauptallee is an auto-free linear park in Vienna's 2nd district. It is straight as an…read morearrow and 2.8 miles in length. It is mostly shaded and paved and well used by Vienna locals all year round. The amusement park with the giant Ferris wheel is at one end and the Lusthaus cafe is at the other. It is beautiful and pleasure to go running on.

The Pöstleinsdorfer Schlosspark is a really, really nice place to be and chill out in a quiet and…read morewide green area. We really enjoyed the peace of this beautiful park. Along the way (well laid out and easy to walk on), we saw a lot of dears running in the forest (part if the Urwald, the oldest forest of Vienna) or resting on the green-field sites, contemplating them was amazing! But you are not allowed to walk on the fields, they are kept as "Futterwiese", meaning "feed meadow". Don't worry, there are plenty of benches and nice sites within the park :) It is a bit far from the center of Vienna (endstation of the strassenbahn 41) but it keeps the tourists away and will assure you a peaceful time in a beautiful area.

It's just a perfect place to lie in the grass and watch the clouds go by. If you get hungry the Grosses Schutzhaus Rosental is a quick walk away. If you have restless kids there's a big fun playground. The Otto Wagner church and hospital are nearby if you want to look at some gorgeous architecture. There's a public fountain with drinking water near the main entrance of the grounds.
