The Waffle Florentine (265 PHP) 3 pieces of fried chicken that's crispy and just enough breading for some heft. Spinach, Bacon and poached egg atop a stack of 2 quarter pieces of waffles, drizzled with a subtly mix of their Hollandaise sauce. It wasn't the most savoury breakfast we'd eaten, but it certainly offers much more value than a local breakfast chain. Taste it yourself you might like the calmness of this dish. The Breakfast Bowl Not something we'd recommend, but if you just need a basic breakfast then go ahead. It's not bad, just nothing special we'd order again. Just too ordinary. The Cheesecake Milkshake (136 PHP) It won us over with its stunning presentation and affordable price. It's a light milkshakes that's great for the summer and instagram. Taste is a good as it gets for milkshake. Ambiance was great, they played a chill mix of the latest hits. It perks you up in the morning. They also have beer pong tables outside for evening activities. The booth tables are well separated (no head bumps) with power outlets on each table, perfect for everyone who has the latest shiny low capacity smartphone.

We visited this place because me and my friends wanted to try a new place to eat at. At first, I thought this place was pricey until I saw their serving size - most of the items on their menu was good for sharing. I was able to try their Beer-Battered Chicken and Waffles (Php 256.00) and it was definitely worth it. The chicken strips were moist and soft, while the waffles and its syrup were good enough- although the 2 "bacon strips" they put along with the dish were not enough. Their Chicken Caesar Salad did not disappoint as well because of its serving size, it's definitely good for sharing and they did not skimp on the chicken strips. The Poutine (Php 156.00) was disappointing because its taste and serving size isn't what we expected. It was too small - it looked like it was rushed and the fries doesn't have it's usual crisp - the "cheese curds" part of the Poutine wasn't melted at all and their gravy doesn't do much. Another item that disappointed me was their Cheesecake Milkshake (Php 136.00) because I was able to try their other milkshakes and there was no difference - only its presentation - and I was not able to taste even a hint of cheesecake - only by its presentation was I able to figure out it was a cheesecake milkshake. Overall the experience at Diner on 16th was just okay. It's a place that people should visit and get to try when they are within the area. In the afternoon, it's a good place to just hang out and chill by yourself or your friends (they have a beerpong table!). There are power outlets on each table (at the booths) however, they don't have WiFi.

Midtown Inn and Diner has been around for a good 30-some years, and has managed to stay true to its roots, as a diner, as a representative of Manila, and as a family business. Inspired by the eateries of the 1950s, and established in one if the most culturally-true parts of the city, and serving good ol' comfort food, Midtown Inn and Diner has an overall warm feeling. Known especially for their breakfast, not only can you have them all day, but everyday! Even their coffee preparation methods have been the same since the beginning. As a lola of Manila, I'd love the old vintage stuff from way back to resurface in the near future. Who wouldn't love to get a glimpse of the great good old Manila? Midtown Inn & Diner is one of the few diners that was preserved or has survived time. I've also wanted to recreate with a friend that very famous scene from Bande a Parte with Anna Karina wherein they danced in a diner. Yes, Anna Karina is my most favourite French artist and she's the Audrey Hepburn of my life. I'm also fascinated with Jean Luc Godard's French New Wave films. If you know what I'm talking about, you'd get that vibe once you step in this place. It's like the 60's vintage vibe but instead of being in France, you're in Manila.

So it's no surprise that I'm drawn to diner-type places like this. I was really sad when their spot in BF Homes Paranaque closed down (I was a regular there). Thankfully, a new branch opened up in Commercenter Alabang. I love coming to this place for their laidback feel and delicious Buffalo wings. Even my mom who prefers home-cooked meals over diner food loves it. She prefers the Chili N' Cheese Nachos over the Chili N' Cheese Fries though, and I make sure we order both, along with a triple sampler of the chicken wings in Garlic Parmesan, New York's Finest and Honey Barbecue flavor. But what I really keep coming back for is the Chicken Tenders with the zingy honey mustard dip. I'll say it fares better than the ones served in those American joints, for a much lower price. The new place they moved into has more space than the previous one, so I can take my time enjoying my food without worrying about other patrons waiting in line.

You may like some dishes, but the others are totally horrible. Such is not the case for Buffalo Wings N' Things. I don't think I ever ordered anything here that I didn't like. I have been a very huge, HUGE fan of this wing shop even during the time when it only had its first few branches. I frequented the one in Solaris so much because I worked nearby, enough for their entire staff to know me by name and anticipate my order the moment I walk in the door. My absolute favorite is their garlic parmesan wings, which is just different levels of perfect. I have tried hacking the recipe at home, but there is just something about their seasoning that makes this chicken really tasty. I have long tried to embrace a veg diet, and when I do relapse (I make meat-eating sound like a disease or an addiction that I want to curb, sorry), I always find myself munching on garlic parmesan wings from here. I love it with their dirty rice (which I have successfully hacked at home, yes! but I still love the store bought one) and their bleu cheese dip. I would also order their crisscut fries, and this would make up my usual spread. This branch is very memorable to me because my best friend and I ate at this place the night before she got married (We stayed at Parque Espana, the hotel across the street). We pigged out on wings so much that we worried she wouldn't fit into her wedding dress (fortunately, she did). I love this branch because it is so chill , and the usual BWNT interiors (rustic wood, red leather) make it so homey and casual enough so that you could just let your hair down.

In fact, the main attraction of the place are their burgers. Most of their best sellers are sandwiches of monstrous proportions. The Xander's Deluxe is one of their best sellers and rightly so. It's basically their own take on the quarter pounder. Then there's the Xander's Boss which is basically a triple of the Deluxe. Most of the stuff on their menu is American. As I said, it tries to give off a middle class diner feel. It even has milkshakes and banana splits. It is by no means cheap, but it's not really expensive either. The price is justified given the servings and the quality of the grub. This is probably the sort of place where I would hang out with a couple of my mates on a weekend if I had nothing major planned for a couple of beers and a massive burger while watching something on their TV.

Xander's menu comprises of the usual diner food - burgers, chicken wings and Nachos - food I love. Their burger selection was impressive; the Bumblebee's BBQ burger was good, although the OC in me was a little disappointed with the fries that went with it; it doesn't have to be those large-cut ones but they always have to look fresh and crisp, not saggy like the ones they served. But I'm forgiving since they did mention that they're still in the soft opening phase. The Buffalo wings we ordered was delicious too. They also have a variety of rice meals and pasta on their menu. And shakes! I didn't order one the last time I was there, but some of my friends said they were really good as well as the ice cream. There's definitely room for improvement, but this diner seems promising. I would definitely be back to try their shakes, and I hope they won't disappoint me with the fries next time.
