All we remember was that he was tall, had blondish-brown hair and wore glasses. I usually smoke my own beef jerky using sliced top round 'London Broil", and I smoke my own bacon from sliced pork belly. This wonderful butcher told me that he knows folks who not only make smoked beef jerky from brisket but make bacon from the point or the round. Ironically, he didn't own a smoker so he at times he confused the two parts of a beef brisket (and confused me as well). But it was all knowledge I didn't have before and it also gave me summer project to schedule. He also asked me to come back and tell him how the bacon turned out after it's done. Darn but I wish I'd have asked him his name. But the most important thing was that he handed me a gorgeous brisket flat at the weight I'd requested. Anyway, great customer service with added value always rates five stars with me. We may not shop that Safeway again for awhile but I will be going back to the meat department to find that butcher and give him a sample of my handiwork. And yes, I'll buy more meat from him. He's an example of what I've always maintained: make friends with a butcher in the meat department. You'll always get service above and beyond because in the end, it motivates you to buy more meat. I've amended this to also include making friends with a produce manager or clerk, and become really good chums with at least one cashier. Because I've made a point of the latter, checkout time is party time for my wife and I and our favorite cashiers. And that actually makes grocery shopping fun.

In fact, he drives about 10 minutes past our house to give him business as we like to support our local stores. This morning, hubby bought 4 Monster drinks, has his usual pleasant exchange with the owner, then went back to the car to have one of the drinks explode. He went back into the store to let the owner know and ask to have it replaced. The manager immediately accused him of doing something to the product instead of replacing it in good faith or even telling him that they don't replace items. Naturally, this didn't settle well with my husband, who was going to simply buy a replacement and not go back in again. The owner was going to grudgingly give him the replacement, but his attitude was so irksome that he told the owner he wasn't going to be back again. At that point, the owner demanded that he hand the drink to him and refused to let him have it afterall, telling him he could have the one that burst. When he got back to the car, a second drink burst. It makes no good business sense to accuse a customer of damaging something intentionally to get a "free" one. What does he gain from doing that? It's not like he can consume a can of drink that's burst. Replacing defective product is the customary way that businesses show good faith to their customers, that we can trust them and continue to do business with them. We won't be giving him business any longer, and neither will our family. And you can bet that as with any other customer treated in this manner, we'll be telling this story to others. Do better. Don't be insulting on top of cheap. If you just had a bad day, everyone has them. Just apologize.

Great, I ordered two 18-24 oz, 1.25 inch cuts to be picked up in 3 days on the next Friday. Upon opening the package of meat at home the printed label said T-Bone, which I did not order. Called them and was told to freeze them and bring the back the following Friday and they would have my 2 Porterhouse steaks ready for me. I had the handwritten order to show them for Porterhouse, and the T Bone label still attached to the butcher paper. First lady opens the package and sees Porterhouse wrote on a freezer bag, she says it says Porterhouse, I tell her I wrote that when I separated the steaks. Butcher comes over and asked me what my definition of a Porterhouse is, I showed him a pic on my phone of a real one. He says they don't have that. I say I was told you do when I placed my order. Younger lady comes over and says they can't take them back as they are frozen, I tell her that was what I was told to do, by them. In the end they took the steaks and gave me my money back. No were no we are sorry, no words at all, she just dropped the money in my hand and turned and walked away. Made me feel like they thought this was all my fault. Will never ever go back.

Strong store management shows in almost every detail. That's impressive since many decisions made by the corporate owner in Idaho and ITS owner, a private equity company in NYC (that's been unsuccessfully trying to unload the supermarket chain for years) seems to do their best to turn away customers for reasons I can only surmise, The rigid control they maintain on the items they choose to stock in the store results in us having to go to another chain supermarket in town that stocks a wider variety of goods. All that being said, this store offers a wider selection of goods than either of the two Safeway stores in town (although each one of those sells a few products this Albertson's doesn't). And from our experience with cashiers (including a store manager who regularly mans a checkout line) and courtesy clerks/baggers, the employees here are extremely friendly and they work fast. You can have a fun conversation with a checker and they won't slow down or stop working while they chat. The store's large, brightly lit and attractive. There frequently seems to be changes in shelves design and moving products around to different locations but it's also interesting to see where store management is going with it. The produce here is uniformly better than the other two stores and its meat and bakery offering in match or in some ways surpass the other two as well. However, WA state is suing Albertson's, alleging that from 2019-2024 it's BOGO deals are deceptive by the chain overcharging on those items leading up to the BOGO sales. So, now we're back at the corporate owners doing what they can to mess with customers. That makes me wish Cerebrus would unload the chain to a decent owner who would clean house with the Idaho corporate management.

I like it. It's easy and convenient place to shop for your local veggies, fruit, other essentials needs. They do have a bulletin board somewhere in their store.
