How my dog was left after his appointment
Maddy S.

TLDR: Do NOT book with this groomer unless you'd like your dog to be left like mine (1/4 shaved)! I initially booked an appointment with Good Sniff Spaw after seeing them on my street. As my dog hasn't been groomed in a while (old groomer quit her job, and I haven't found anywhere else that has good reviews AND does large dogs), I inquired if they would be able to groom my dog. I spoke to the who I presume is the owner, and he assured me that they do groom large dogs and can groom my Chow Chow (as they have a reputation to be aggressive and a lot of work due to their fur). The day of the appointment came and my groomer, Katie, seemed like she knew exactly what she was doing and got along with my dog. I know he gets nervous with some groomers, so I offered to go in with her, give him treats, or provide a muzzle in case he starts to growl or nip at her (he has never bitten anyone to this day). She said no it was fine and took my dog into her van. About 10 minutes goes by and I get a call from her boss stating my dogs fur is too matted underneath and will need to be shaved because brushing isn't doing anything. I agreed since it was the only option presented. Then 10-20 minutes later, I received another call from the boss saying my dog is too aggressive and the groomer will not continue (but assures me that the groomer is a trainer and well experience groomer) (I am fully aware my dog can be "aggressive" because he gets very nervous and does not like his fur being tugged on - hence why i offered to go in and/or provide a muzzle). Katie brings my dog back inside with only ONE LEG & behind half his head shaved off, refusing to do anything more because of his aggression, BUT I can go get sedatives for him to calm him down and rebook. Okay fine.. they charge me $25 for their time. I go to the vet & get sedatives ($100 later), and rebook an appointment. The morning comes, I give my dog the sedatives and he is loopy. Tripping up the stairs, shaking, clearly not stable. The groomer shows up, takes my dog. Literally 20 minutes later, I get a call from her boss (again) stating they will no longer groom my dog because he growled... So the groomer brings my dog back to my front door, hands the leash to my mom and backs off saying abruptly that she can't work on him anymore and leaves. Leaves my dog with ONE LEG & HALF HIS HEAD SHAVED (this is a chow chow, so he is FLUFFY everywhere else). I don't have the tools, experience, or knowledge on how to shave/groom the rest of my dog. So I was left with my dog looking ridiculous, and out $125 (+ tip because I actually felt bad for the groomers first try, which I regret now). Why not just tell customers from the start if your groomers can't work with large, "aggressive" dogs?? All my dog did was growl and you refused to continue working on him. If that's all it takes for you to stop working on a dog, then you're in the wrong line of work. ALSO - I went to a new groomer who ended up shaving the rest of him and they advised that Good Sniff Spaw used the wrong blade cover, which resulted in them tugging my dogs skin/fur while shaving him. Which makes sense why he would flinch or get upset. I've already told many people about this experience and not only have you lost me as a customer, but many others. It's unfortunate that I had this horrible experience, but I feel the worst for my dog who was left looking horrible and had to be put on sedatives for no apparent reason. If you're a potential customer, please think about going somewhere else with your business. I usually don't write long reviews like these, but felt the need to be detailed so my review can be of some real help.

His skin is raw. Maybe the vet soon foe infection. A few spots are red.

So upsetting. We brush our dog weekly. Yes, there may have been a few spots but Katie sheared our dog to his skin in the middle of feb. He is now so depressed and cold. There is cutting out matting and there is shearing to the skin. DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOG GROOMED BY KATIE

I have two "difficult to groom" 60 lb dogs. We have been refused by 3 previous groomers and …read more... then I found Christine. I was amazed at how relaxed my dogs were when they were done. Christine takes all the time necessary to be sure the dog isn't uncomfortable for any length of time. Frequent breaks, lots of love and yummy treats mean it takes longer but so worth it. Stress and anxiety is exhausting for dogs and humans. Grooming an anxious dog isn't fun. Things can escalate if attention to the dog's emotional state isn't monitored. Most groomers simply don't have the time. I can't imagine my boys being groomed anywhere else. No hesitation in recommending Christine. She "soothed their souls" as well as mine even though she no doubt is herself exhausted after our visits.

My dog is extremely anxious, especially at the vet or groomer, which led me to "Soothe Their Soul" hoping for Christine's specialized help with anxious dogs. My initial visits were promising. I stayed for the first 4-hour session to observe her process, and the second drop-off visit allowed my dog to get used to the environment, even resulting in a successful nail trim. This was great progress, and I was optimistic for the third visit, where grooming was planned. However, the third visit was deeply concerning. When I picked up my dog, he was uncharacteristically low-energy, lethargic and and sad. It took him two full days to regain his normal energy. My interaction with the owner at pickup was also very uncomfortable. Her demeanor was curt, cold, and visibly frustrated, which was a stark contrast to our first meeting. Her body language and tone were unprofessional, making me feel uneasy. Even if it was a difficult day, I expect a level of professionalism and maintain emotional resilience when dealing with her clients - both the dog and the owner. Furthermore, I was told my dog bit someone who tried to pet him. Given his known anxiety - the very reason I brought him there - I expected the business owner to ensure he wasn't put in a situation where he felt the need to bite, and to advise others against approaching him. It is ok that she was not able to have a breakthrough with my dog during that 3rd visit. It is NOT ok that my dog left there feeling deflated and deeply saddened.

Immediately left of the entrance is the adoption center where they have kitties up for adoption. The workers were tending to the kitties and trying to keep them entertained with toys and they were allowed to run around in the adoption room which was super cute. They also carry all manner of fishes here. Right now they have Halloween decorations in a lot of the tanks which are really cute. One of them was a little tombstone that said "Flushed too soon". There were also hermit crabs and tiny shrimps for sale. They also had a big display of bettas. Most of them looked like they were in good health. There was actually one that was on its side but pranked us and started swimming off as we were about to go speak with an employee. They also had care instructions available to read along the display. We visited the small rodent section where there were guinea pigs, skinny pigs (the naked ones!), gerbils, and hamsters. It's just the beginning of fall now but I saw dog costumes already for sale. There were also cold weather items like jackets by Upper Canada Pooch and booties already on display.

This groomer was highly recommended to me by a woman I met at the dog park. She was so convincing…read morethat I immediately gave Lina a call. But I was disappointed from beginning to end. First of all, she could not give me a specific appointment time, only a date. I told her that I worked from home and my work was based on booking appointments and I asked her if she could please give me an appointment time, she said she would come "in the afternoon". The day before, she messaged to tell me she would be there at 5:00. I had already booked a client at 5pm thinking that was past "afternoon", but I cancelled it in order to keep the grooming appointment because my dog was overdue for a cut. At 2pm the next day she called me to tell me that she had had 2 cancellations and could come to my house right then. I was free so I agreed. She took my dog and said she'd be finished in an hour. I told her I was going to the bank and the library. Before I got back, she called and I could hear my dog crying very plaintively in the background. She did not explain why he was crying or offer him any soothing words. The crying was quite disturbing as he never cries like that. The groomer didn't want to wait the 5 or 10 minutes it would take me to get home and said she would come and meet me where I was, at the mall down the street from my house. My dog was anxious and had the worst haircut he's ever had. For this she charged me $90. When I reacted surprised she became quite aggressively defensive. Something bad had quite obviously happened to my dog. I checked him for cuts but found nothing, but he was jumpy and skittish with other people, and even with me (which he never is usually). The next day I got out my grooming scissors to clean up all the tufts of hair that she had missed. My dog quivered with fear at the sight of the scissors and the shaking got quite violent as I trimmed him, even though I was speaking softly and warmly with him the whole time and treating him very gently. I will never use this service again and I will be warning all my pet-owning friends about her.

I posted pics of how happy he looks. She calmed him down right away. She was right on time. She is fast but very thorough and careful. She uses natural shampoos and conditioners. She cleaned his ears carefully and also used a special sander to shorten his nails because he was freaking out about the clippers. Nobody, I repeat, nobody has been able to come groom my dog. He is 130 pounds and a very protective breed. How she managed to get him so happy I have no idea. But I know that no one else can groom him. It's not even a choice. Not to mention, she is so nice!!!! THANK YOU LINA without you I would not be able to get him groomed.
