I first encountered Pet Pilgrimage (PP) through my vet last year, when I had to put down my beloved lab Rocky due to cancer. We were at the vet's office, and it was unexpectedly sudden, so I really didn't know what to do. My vet told me she would call PP, and they would take care of everything and contact me. I didn't even have to pay them until I picked up Rocky's remains the next day. Since I had no idea what to expect, I was quite surprised at how warm, kind and compassionate the staff were when I did in. They handed me a lovely rainbow bag with Rocky's cremated remains sealed in a wooden box, as well as a clipping of his fur and a casted plaster paw impression. Everything was well presented and a lovely way to remember my beloved pet. Fast forward to this summer, when tragedy stuck a second time, and our incredibly loved, cherished Bernese Mt Dog Apollo was also struck with cancer (different from Rocky's so not related). This dog was everyone's favorite, including the UPS driver. So when he passed at home, it was so comforting to be able to call PP on a Sunday afternoon to come take our beloved boy. They came within the hour and put Apollo carefully on a gurney, and covered him with a lovely blanket. They were so kind and compassionate at a very difficult time. Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't use this service for all my pets, nor for every dog we've had, but knowing they're available 24/7 for those difficult times when it's THE BEST dog ever is very, very comforting.

But I was able to find Pet Pilgrimage. From the moment I called to speak with Becky my heart was a bit lighter that he was going to be taken care of the way would have. Our Buddy declined quickly and we had to make the difficult decision to have put to sleep on the Friday after Thanksgiving, 2022. Our appointment at the vet was not until 4:30pm but the folks at Pet Pilgrimage were so accommodating. Our vet had put Buddy in a box for us which we hand delivered to Pet Pilgrimage. I wanted to make sure Buddy was wrapped in his favorite blanket he had since he was a puppy, his favorite toy nestled in his arms and pictures of our family with him. When we dropped him off Lisa told us to take our time saying good bye. We spent some final moments with our little guy. I was able to cover him up, give him his Lamby, and kiss his sweet face. Lisa set our expectations to say I would receive a call first thing Monday morning to pick him up. With it being holiday I completely understood that it would take longer than the estimated 48 hours. Due to my own impatience of wanting Buddy home I called around 9:45am on Monday. Becky said I was going to be her first call at 10 - because she wanted me to have time to wake up before getting the news Buddy was ready and not open up a raw nerve. Thoughtful beyond words! I loved how she referred to him as my baby - because he is my baby... When we picked him up we were given a beautiful bag - and the living tree urn with Buddy's remains. The paw prints were perfect. What I realize now and I didn't at the time - was how anxious I was to get Buddy home. The folks at Pet Pilgrimage understood that for me. I took my 65 pound dog in for wart removal by cryosurgery (freezing). They mislead me about the…read morenature of their follow up treatments, indicating that I shouldn't worry if the warts aren't fully removed, they are glad to do follow ups. The clear implication was that follow up would be at no cost. At no time in the initial phone calls or during the visit did they indicate that the follow ups would be almost $350 and the follow up was still not guaranteed to work! The cryosurgery didn't work for even the smallest warts, for which portions remained to regrow. I think they intentionally obscure the nature and expense of the surgery and perhaps even do a poor job, counting on billing for the repeat treatments. There is nothing in any of their material that indicates these excessive costs. There is no way I could recommend them.

My foster pit was with them about 12 years ago, and even then I saw the depth of their commitment, compassion, and integrity. Years later, nothing has changed except that the need has grown and they continue to show up anyway. They do far more than just place animals. They advocate, problem-solve, network, fundraise, transport, foster, and emotionally carry cases that most people would walk away from. They step in when animals are overlooked, misunderstood, or discarded, and they do it with care, patience, and respect for both the animals and the humans involved. Rescue work is exhausting, thankless, and often met with criticism rather than support. Catering to Cats and Dogs continues to do it because they genuinely care, even when it is hard, even when it hurts, and even when the outcomes are uncertain. They are exactly the kind of rescue this world needs more of. Megan also ensured that the engraving on my baby's urn would be perfect to my specifications and she did her absolute best to make sure it was ready on time. I picked up my precious baby on 18 June 2025 and proceeded to prepare his resting place at home. I literally cried buckets of tears as I carefully unwrapped his beautiful urn, his paw print in a leather binder inscribed with his name, his curly locks of hair, and other delicate memorabilia. She explained everything and after the medication was given she told us that Michelle had passed. I was holding M and Linda went to her car and brought a beautiful wicker basket with a silk pillow and blanket and placed Michelle in the basket and Linda placed a small stuffed animal next to Michelle. My daughter and I were so very thankful for Linda. Michelle was then taken in the basket to be cremated. I miss Michelle everyday.... Even though the vet that came to my house confirmed my veterinarian's name and street address with me, and the follow-up emails had the correct name, Lap of Love sent the crematorium the WRONG vet name and address. My cat's ashes were delivered over 2 hours away from me. I had to make numerous phone calls and send multiple emails to find out where she was and to get her ashes delivered to me. It's appalling and it was a horrific experience. I told both them and the crematorium they need to put some type of quality control check in place so this never happens to anyone again.
