This rambles a bit, so stick with me... it's 4am.
I LOVE Good Mojo! When I found out that Mulysa was opening her own shop down the street from me, I couldn't have been more excited. I knew instantly that this would be the best tattoo shop I had ever been to. Needless to say I was blown away upon entering during their opening celebration last December. Many shops, to me at least, have a doctors office/ hair salon vibe. Good Mojo is like going home. Everything from the color of the walls, to the artwork, decor, furniture is so warm and inviting. Although the feel of the place isn't some boring, sterile doctors office, it is by far the cleanest tattoo shop I have ever been to. They take tremendous pride in their shop and art and it shows in every aspect of the place. Oh, and the chairs they have for your tattoo experience are by far the most comfortable I've ever parked my butt in. If I could go there and take naps in them, I would. Each artist has their own room as well, and the privacy is very welcome if you've ever been tattooed in a big room or half-wall cubicles where any moron to come up and start talking to you.
The walls aren't covered in flash (being a custom shop), so you'll never have to listen to meathead, window shoppers debate wether or not the barbed wire or tribal armband will make them more of a douchebag. Which is annoying to say the least if you've ever had to listen to that. This also means that they are true artists and not just flash jockeys. I know others have said this on Yelp, but there really is a fun, family vibe with everyone that works there. They're more than willing to include you in that family, as long as you're not a dick. It makes the place all the more comfortable to visit.
I started working with Mulysa about three years ago. I went in with a sizable cover-up project and before long, we were planning out the sleeve. It didn't take me long to put all my trust in her to give me a truly beautiful and unique piece of artwork. When discussing the egyptian theme I envisioned for my arm, her genuine enthusiasm for the tattoo put me at such ease, that I knew I had finally found the artist that will doing the vast majority of my work for life. Most of the time now, we have a brief discussion of what we want to do before I go into the appointment. I then show up and she presents me with art and concepts that are FAR superior than anything I could ever dream of. That's what someone with 20 years experience and an honest love for her art will get you. Bottom line is, I trust her, which to me is the biggest reason I will wait years if I have to to receive her work. Luckily, I have appointments booked through next year so I shouldn't have to. Because soooo many others feel the same about Mulysa as I do, she is booking out well in advance. You might have to be patient, as hard as that can be when looking forward to a tattoo, but I guarantee your body will be happy.
If you do need a fix, there are also Sami and Ray there. I know people who have work done by each and are EXTREMELY happy with their experiences. Their work is top notch as well! This also goes back to my complete trust in Mulysa. I know that she will only pick artists that share the same love and devotion to their craft as she does. Although Mulysa is my artist, I do enjoy collecting art from different people with different styles. Anyone hand picked by her will definitely be at the top of my list to go to.
If you're smart, you will go to Good Mojo. If your dumb, you'll go to all the places I did before becoming enlightened.
Love*Ink*Magick... forever.
