I had the absolute best experience at Sacred Harp recently! My friend and I popped in for a Friday the 13th flash tattoo and they had a huge selection. The guy at the front desk as well as our tattoo artist were so sweet and really made the visit to Sacred Harp enjoyable. Pumped to see all these five-star reviews for my favorite tattoo shop; these guys definitely deserve it! Bix has been doing tattoos for me for 3 years and many more to come. He is a true artist - take one look at his instagram (@abixbytattoo) and #saynomorefam. He can do all kinds of styles, but his specialty & most amazing work is old school traditional. That said, I have an elephant head mandala that's about 6"x6" on the front of my thigh and it's AMAZING. Love it every time I look down! Give him a few ideas and he'll draw up something spectacular (or more than one version of something) and help you choose the best fit for you. Oh, and he's a super nice guy with a super nice wife (hi, Jess!) -- so that's a plus. What else matters... - Cost: *CASH ONLY* and completely reasonable. But these are good tattoos! Don't expect to pay $60 for a quality tattoo. Go somewhere and pay $60 and then come to Sacred Harp and pay what it's actually worth to cover it up... just sayin'! - Cleanliness: 100%. The shop is clean, the individual work areas are VERY clean, everything is sterilized and in sealed packages, tables are covered with hospital-style paper. I've never even thought about cleanliness here, and that's exactly what you want. - Service: Above & beyond. You get great "tattoo service" - from the initial consultation to the final product, but you also get a great overall experience when you're there. Everyone is friendly, so you're not just sitting there sticking out like a sore thumb while a bunch of old friends talk around you (which I have experienced elsewhere). I mean.. you can sit there by yourself if you WANT, but if you have a little bit of a wait everyone who works here is a hoot. I've been going to Bix close to 6 months now and I fucking love this guy! He's a solid guy and I've had nothing but an amazing experience thus far! He's in the process of doing my left leg sleeve and it's literally perfect . His presence is very inviting and he's passionate about every tattoo he does. There can be pleasure in pain. By far the best tattoo experience I've had. I went on a whim with my perpetual partner in mild crimes after an uninviting experience at a shop just steps away from my house. We showed up an hour and a half before close and met a cool, laid-back guy eager to help us round out the vague tattoo ideas we spewed at him. Turns out this cool young guy was the owner. He not only tolerated, but participated in our ridiculous conversation ranging from Thundercats to Tetris as he etched the coolest little apple onto the side of my foot. The shop itself was as sterile as you'd hope a place you go to willingly spill your own blood might be. But also, comfortable with inviting leather seating and plasma TVs. The price was fair, the work was quick, and the pain minimal. I'll definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone - already inked or otherwise. read more

Much like the reviewer before me, our band of hooligans decided that tattoos were a good idea at about 9:30 (or was it 10:30?) at night- either way 1/2 hour before Sacred Harp closed- we called and they said to come on down. They made time for the 4 of us (we all got something small) and were extremely accommodating and friendly. 3 out of the 4 of us already had tattoos and they didn't make a big deal of the fact that it was my friends first- she was a little nervous and they did a good job of putting her fears to rest. The shop was extremely clean, the people were very friendly, and they didn't act put out that they were there a little late because of us. Nothing says taking a chance like Tuesday night tattoo's out of nowhere.... So me and my friend Kristen made a decision to get some random tattoos out of lack of anything better to do. Seeing as this was a spur of the moment thing I didn't have the time to book my normal person so we saw this place on my space and said screw it, lets just do it. We walked in and the shop was extremely clean, which is the first thing that I look for seeing as I'm about to pay someone here to repeatedly stick needles into me. It also had flat screen TVs everywhere which is good in the event someone comes who's not getting one. The owner Corey is young, but he knows what he;s doing and that the standard I hold people, I could give a shit about how old they are. He's done tattoos all over the world so I figured his credentials checked out. I didn't get anything to crazy complicated, I got an ambiagram on the inside of my arm, but it still came out perfect, actually it came out better then I had pictured it, so needless to say I got what I paid for. My friend got an apple on her foot and she loves hers too. Also it was pretty fast for a tattoo, which was good cause it was the inside of my arm and hurt like a bastard. Do not get a tattoo here. I live from out of state and my mom and I wanted a tattoo after having visited Salem 3 times now and loving the place so much. After careful research, we decided to call this place based on their glowing online reviews. We booked an appointment with Ray for October 30th. However when we arrived, the shop was closed and no one was there. We had given them my number prior to this and never received a phone call from them having to cancel the appt. Luckily we got in as a walk-in at another tattoo shop in the area that day but that is an unprofessional way to run your business. read more

We just took a road trip from New York to Massachusetts. We had made a last minute decision to get tattoos in Salem. I reached out to a bunch of shops a day or so before we reached Salem and this was one of the few shops that even answered my email asking to get in for an appointment. I get that we decided only a few days before and that we went to Salem in October. I was amazed that Corey not only answered but encouraged us to come by whenever we could! I came in not expecting them to have any artists available but they did. The paperwork was so fast and simple. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. They worked with me and made sure I was happy with the stencil and placement. They really took their time with me. Nolan tattooed me and he was honest, hilarious, and made us feel very comfortable. Everyone their talked to us and made conversation and it was overall just a fantastic experience. I had a great time, the line work is just awesome, and I would 100% go back. I am typically the type of person who shops around for a shop and artist for a while. I am incredibly lucky to have gotten such a talented artist and that they took me for a walk in appointment during Salems busiest time of year! So grateful! read more

This shop, staff, and owner made this experience absolutely incredible!! I was visiting a friend of mine in Salem. I hadn't called ahead to make an appointment, (which I recommend for a weekend visit). I immediately felt welcome and comfortable. Edgar took a look at there schedule for the day and worked to get me in. He took my name and number to let me know when I could come back that day because I wasn't from around there. They were able to work with what I wanted, helped make it the size I wanted, and even my budget. When I arrived, I met Corey and discussed my tattoo. I didn't know at that point that he was the owner. After they were able to get me in for my tattoo and having the owner himself do my tattoo, I was super glad I have selected this shop!! If I could give this place less stars I would. I booked a time for my parents and I to come in, I was getting a star on my pinky finger and my parents were working with the artists to create much larger pieces for themselves. I had a good experience until the girl working in the front told me the artist wanted to talk to me in the back. I follow, and without even an introduction or greeting this man looks at me and says "your tattoo is going to look like shit" wow, classy. I proceeded to ask why and he stated that "you would need to come back to get it retouched and its still going to look like shit because its on your hand" I then show him my hand that already has finger tattoos that look GREAT so yes I'm very aware that I would need to get it retouched, as I had to have one retouched 4 times. HOWEVER he then said "Im going to charge you the same price every time you come to get it retouched" I say "You want me to pay 500 dollars for you to put a tiny star on my finger" and he says YES. NEVER NEVER NEVER go here. I got my finger tattoo retouched for FREE four times (plus tip) at shining star in peabody. They are so much more friendly at shining star and look at you as other than a wallet. I ended up walking out of the room after he said he wanted that much money. My dad could see how disrespectful this guy was and I was clearly upset, so my entire family ended up walking out and canceling all our appointments. That tattoo artist just made their business lose thousands of dollars because he has no idea how to interact with customers, and lacks the talent to do a simple little star.
