What an amazing experience for my first tattoo. I'd been planning and thinking about getting one for a long time (I'm 56!) and when I asked my friends here on the North Shore, everyone suggested I work with Lisa at Good Mojo Tattoos. She was amazing! Over a few months we slowly went over my design thoughts, and she came up with a few ideas. We patiently worked together to tweak it and come up with something that I felt would really combine my home country roots and my #BetheHammer attitude that has come from my 10+ years of endurance racing. Right until the day of the tattoo, Lisa openly worked with me until the design was exactly what I wanted, including changing the location of the tattoo on my body. The process itself was quick with only a slight discomfort at times. Nothing more than a bit of stinging here and there. GMT is phenomenal. Period. I have been a client at GMT for easily over a decade. I wanted a tattoo, did my research, and determined that this was the shop for me. My first ink there was done by Lisa, who was fun, kind, compassionate, very agreeable and able to do what I wanted (Hebrew text), and did it all with expert workmanship. She was able to include nuances in my text that were extremely important to me and the experience was just.... fun, fast, and respectful of the meaning of my tattoo. All of my following appointments have been with Mulysa, the shop owner. I loved her style and artistry - she is an amazing illustrator. We also really appreciate the friendliness and efficiency of the front desk staff -- they are easy to get a hold of and quick to respond. The shop is GORGEOUS -- clean and inviting (they have those couches that are impossible to get out of....zzzzzzz). Parking is no issue as there is a lot in the back. Consultations are through and informative -- if you don't get what you want after that, it's on you. Aftercare is clear and they give you documentation and a bit of lotion to take with you. I've never had any issues healing and GMT has been available for me when I was a newbie and wasn't sure about something. I am not related to anyone in this shop, not BFFs with anyone, and make no money or receive no discounts for anything I've said here. Good Mojo Tattoos is a class act, the BEST and most welcoming and professional tattoo shop I've ever experienced, and I will 10000% recommend anyone I know (and don't know) to visit. I had a fabulous experience at Good Mojo Tattoo. I called about same day availability for a simple design and, lucky me, I was able to get in that evening. In the past, I've felt intimidated at other tattoo places, but the lovely individual at the front desk (whose name I never got) made me feel so at ease and heard over the phone, over email when discussing the design, and in person. Walking into the shop, I immediately felt the good mojo- the smell, the decor and the layout created such a clean and comfortable atmosphere. My artist was Tara. She was friendly and very attentive, and she did a beautiful job with my tattoo- I'll definitely be returning to her in the future. My fiance and I have traveled to Salem every summer for the last six years. Every year, I kept meaning to get tattooed at one of the shops, but I never seemed to actually get there. Then, I went through a particularly rough "dark night of the soul" from May 2017 through just about the Spring Equinox of this year. Three weeks before my fiance and I were going to drive up to Salem from Staten Island, I was hit with inspiration/the tattoo bug and contacted Good Mojo to set up an appointment. The woman I spoke to on the phone (I believe her name is Lauren) was incredibly sweet and very helpful. Inkwitch Lisa was the artist who did my piece, and she was also incredibly sweet, very knowledgeable and talented, and (if you couldn't tell by the name) very much a Witch. ;) The entire studio is absolutely gorgeous--I can't speak to the other artists' rooms (I suspect they're very similar), but Inkwitch Lisa's room was this Pagan tattoo addict's haven. Due to the deeply personal and spiritual significance of the design, it was very important to me that the artist who did this piece be a Witch (or some denomination of Pagan, or at least Pagan friendly) and a woman. I needed to be able to explain the actual meaning behind the tattoo and not only feel comfortable sharing the information, but know that the person sitting on the other side of the tattoo gun truly Got It. Inkwitch Lisa definitely Got It (she referred to my tattoo at one point as a medicinal still-life, which pretty much sums it up perfectly). I would not recommend working with Lauren. My initial appointment was booked back in early August which was rescheduled the day-of as Lauren was sick that day, which I understand, life happens and people get sick. my schedule is tricky so I had to push it out to October which I had no problem with. Come October, my appointment was once again rescheduled the morning of my scheduled appointment to another date in November. In the meantime I had sent an email with a quick question regarding the design and never received a reply. Now November rolls around and once again my appointment is rescheduled without even a days notice. I hesitated to post this review because a close friend of mine had inquired about a design with Lauren and received quite a rude response back which seemed quite unprofessional and I don't wish to be involved with any drama which is why I'm not using my full name on this account - I just wanted my tattoo. Safe to say I will be going to another local studio in the area who already scheduled my appointment within a weeks time. It would seem you're not taking ownership here at all. I inquired via your contact us form which REQUIRES photographs of the tattoo in its current state so you're response noting "we had no idea what condition your tattoo was in" does not add up. You had photos, the artist and the details of when I originally got the tattoo. Additionally, when I inquired I stated my name both married and maiden so you were able to locate me in your system thus clearly identifying how long it had been since I got the tattoo. Lastly, can you say that you're 100% positive that your staff gave me a packet for after care and rules or could that have been a newer process implemented AFTER I came to your establishment since it was some time ago because I am certain I did NOT receive anything EITHER times visiting. I did not even get a receipt for the transaction in December nor did I receive after care paperwork. As I said that evening, I WILL and did pay what you charged me however, I was extremely disappointed to learn not once in the process of my returning for a touch up was it ever mentioned to me there may be additional costs to what is noted on your site. Not even when I spoke to your admin to book the appointment was it ever mentioned until AFTER the work was done. I am very glad for your future customers that you've done your due diligence, albeit late, but nevertheless done on your policies to be clear and concise. Had you done this prior to implementation, perhaps I wouldn't have been caught off guard despite the lack of communication and information provided by your less than helpful staff who I interfaced with. It's taken me a long time to write this, but I cannot recommend this place highly enough! IT IS AMAZING!!! I came in for my first two tattoos, and they were fairly small. I went to Jax and she made me feel incredibly safe and comfortable, answering all of my questions. She took the time to replace my wrist tattoo and ankle tattoo a few times each. The tattoos she did were clean and healed amazingly and so quickly. I got another tattoo back home about a month later, and I had a few concerns. I trusted Jax and reached out to her, and she reassured me, offered advice, and was wonderful in calming me for a tattoo *she didn't even do*!!! I will be going to her for all future tattoos, as I trust her completely and know how much she cares for her clients. She does incredible line work and she does some really beautiful larger colored pieces that I hope to one day get from her. I definitely recommend going to her for any tattoo, big or small, first tattoo or 20th. She is so talented and I'm thrilled to have had her put these meaningful tattoos on me! I came to him with a design I really loved and he was super friendly and open about it--not dismissive or rude at all. Jason is really patient, down to earth, a real talkative guy--which was perfect for me since this was my first tattoo and I was a bit nervous. The first session took about 40 minutes and the second, a little under two hours. The way Jason did it, my tattoo didn't hurt at all, and it goes down the middle of my spine. When it was done, I fell in love with it. I'm going back in January for a touch up and some new details! If you want to get really detailed line work in, or horror-themed stuff (that's his favorite genre), you should definitely definitely ask for Jason. Beverly is quite a trek for me to get to, but the trip is so worth it for a tattoo here. read more

I recently had my FIRST tattoo finished at Good Mojo. I decided with so much canvas I'd better go big or go home. I'm really happy I did! The whole experience was great! You know you've found the right artist when they get as squealy and bouncy about your tattoo ideas as you do. Mulysa was well worth the wait list. The waiting room had this great parlor feel, and I'm a fan of the lack of flash art hanging on the walls you normally see. Instead, there's plush Victorian furniture with art deco antiques and a great ritual/wiccan feel. The friend who came with me commented that this is how she wished other Salem area tattoo shops felt. The rest of the staff I met were great too. Kelly at the front desk was fabulous and seems to have an undying love for peanutbutter cups. Tara popped in and told me all about the props and pitfalls of white ink and color in general. I had been itching to get tattooed by Mulysa Mayhem for some time, because., well, just look at her work - it speaks for itself. The quality is outstanding and the details in each and every piece are immaculate. Although I had originally chosen another artist to do my phoenix, it was important to me that whoever did it understood the personal and symbolic significance behind the tattoo. Thanks to the universe, Mulysa and I randomly crossed paths while out and about one day, and she agreed to do the tattoo of my dreams - a phoenix rising out of fire and ashes. With Mulysa being extremely knowledgable of anything/everything magickal, no one is better suited for this project than her. Less than a month later, I was in the shop for a consult (which Mulysa came in on her day off to meet me), then shortly after, given a list of scheduled appointments to get the process going! Before I knew it, I was at my first appointment for the outline, and so began the birth of my phoenix. I'm on my 5th session of the piece, and it exceeds my expectations. I only showed Mulysa a few pictures of reference material and answered a few of her questions regarding what I wanted, and the phoenix is beyond my wildest dreams. It's crazy how she was able to take my vision and make it a perfect masterpiece to adorn my body. The placement on my body flatters my curves, and the red, yellow, and orange pigments of ink compliment the white of my pale skin perfectly. Without Mulysa's talent, dedication, and undying commitment to making this tattoo the best possible, it wouldn't be what it is. Having the phoenix on me for life empowers me, and brings out an inner strength I didn't know existed in me prior. Getting work done at Good Mojo really is like having a spell casted in your skin! I have a ways to go with my phoenix, but I'm extremely happy with the progress of it so far. While I can't wait 'till it's finished, I'm enjoying each and every one of my sessions with Mulysa, because they are always full of good laughs, meaningful conversation, and all around awesomeness! Even though I live in Boston, I made the trek out to Beverly for my first tattoo at the strong insistence of my sister (Kelly J.) and brother-in-law who both have amazing work on their sleeves done by Good Mojo. I had my first tattoo done by Jon this past weekend and I couldn't be any happier with the result. I'm so glad I took their advice! If I can rent a zipcar to go all the way to Ikea to buy something stupid like a mattress, I don't think it is too big of a hassle to take a quick trip on the commuter rail to make sure something that is going to be on my body for the rest of my life is done perfectly. I've known Mulysa for years, and there was never any question in my mind that if and when I would get a tattoo, it would be by her hand (and as of August of this year, I finally did). I'm beyond excited that she has finally opened her own studio! If you don't know of Ms. Mayhem already, allow me to introduce you: formerly of Lightwave, she's been tattooing for close to 20 years and once you meet her, it's obvious that tattooing is truly her -craft- -- and she takes that damn seriously. She's a skillful artist who produces custom work in many different styles, and she gets really excited over her projects. Although my tattoo was very simple (Tibetan calligraphy -- although it's apparently true what they say about "once you get one, you want more"; when I go in for a touch-up later this week I have a new idea to run by her), I've sat in on consults for my husband and a close friend and it's really cool to see that process, and how involved she gets... man, I cannot wait to start in on my new one and get to have that myself! She also recognizes the more spiritual aspect to tattooing some of us have, and her sizable workspace has been designed to allow for ritual tattooing -- which although not my thing, I find incredibly cool. The studio itself is clean and comfortable, and houses a team of artists who all seem to really love their craft -- and each other. I know it sounds sappy, but it's really cool to be around that sort of excitement and dedication! :) Oh, and in addition to the space feeling so comfy, all of the artists' rooms at Good Mojo are actual -rooms-, with doors and walls and everything! I called last week to get a consultation appointment to get my first tattoo. As soon as the front desk person answered the phone I was sold as a customer of Good Mojo! Friendly front desk person (I didn't get their name) who was very informative and sounded as if she had a smile on her face while talking to me on the phone. Made me feel less nervous about my first tattoo and gave me a positive feeling that this was the studio for me. Yesterday, I had my first tattoo done by Lisa who just made the experience unforgettable and less stressful. I was kind of nervous to begin with and she made me feel relaxed by talking to me, making jokes, being friendly and most of all, she was patient with me. I had to take a break because I was feeling light headed and she put cold wet towels on my forehead, gave me a cup of water and just allowed me to take my time until I felt well enough to continue. I will never go anywhere else for a tattoo. I have 4 (two of them done by Mulysa) and I plan on getting more. (I wish she did the two on me that I originally had before finding her!) I don't care how long I have to wait for her - her work and professionalism is so far above the rest. I went to Mulysa in September of 2008 for a tattoo to commemorate my love for martial arts and my journey of getting my blackbelt. She created a tattoo beyond my wildest dreams. She really listened in the consultation and asked me very specific questions to make sure which direction to go. It incorporated colors and symbolism that I wanted - but Mulysa really saw the vision and made it better than I ever thought it could be. It is one that I am very proud of and get many compliments on. I was with her for four hours as she did my tattoo. I have to say she was very patient, gave me breaks and kept me laughing and chatting to get through it. Then in August of 2010 when I wanted to get a ritual tattoo for my spiritual path changing and growing, there was only one person I was going to for that important tattoo - Mulysa. My mother passed away in November 2017 and my father passed away 2006. Josh did one a tattoo in memory of my father. Absolutely beautiful work and then I found out Josh left. I don't have many tattoos but the ones I have all have very strong meanings. For over a year I knew what I wanted in memory of my mother because she was sincerely devoted to the blessed virgin Mary. I went online and looked up some tattoos to get an idea of and I couldn't believe the horror show I found online. An absolute disgrace. So finally one day I ended up in good Mojo's again with no artwork to show of what I wanted and they hooked me up with Sky. We sat and talked and finally the day came and I just had this feeling that Sky knew exactly what I wanted. Making me feel comfortable was an understatement. As he was doing his work I never looked down wants to see what he was doing on my arm finally felt this power actually guiding Sky's hand. It was a long visit and all I have to say is when I stood up and looked in the mirror and saw the work that he had done I started to cry. It's exactly what I wanted. So now when I look at my arm I think of my mother and father, end of my higher power and also the precise clean and dedicated at work that Sky did for me. I have known Mulysa for many years and seen her grow and expand as an artist. To know what sort of passion this woman has and to see what she puts into her work is nothing short of amazing, and I am in awe at her skill and understanding of good "art" for the skin. I am so much in awe that I travel from California to have the honor of having her work on me. The Good Mojo shop is one of the best tattoo shops I have seen in my life, if not THE best. Good Mojo is in my opinion the best tattoo shop I have ever visited. I had been going to Mulysa for sometime now and was truly impressed with her work and professionalism. The vibe at Good Mojo is just that Good Mojo. Every time I walk in I am greeted with a smile and usually a good laugh. The shop is such a piece of art in itself, so well decorated and comfortable, it is hard for me to leave. When my friend Steve told me to add Good Mojos tattoo to my facebook friends, I thought, ok, supporting a new tattoo shop and a friend of a friend, sure, why not. When I learned that the shop was going to be near my apartment building, I jumped for joy. I stopped in on what was their first day opening. I had the pleasure of meeting Mulysa and loved her vibe. I got to look at the portfolios and found the one I fell in love with. I got a friend request from Sammi Strange who I didnt know who she was. When I stopped in and she greeted me and helped me out that day. She told me she sent a request and when I was in her room, I noticed the pictures on her wall was the artist I wanted to work with. It was a match made in heaven if you will. I loved Sammi's vibe as well. The whole crew had an awesome vibe. Sammi also nailed what I was looking for in a tattoo. She took what I told her and made it come to life. When I saw the place, it felt homey. It wasn't your typical tattoo shop and you knew you were in good hands. Once I got the tour of the studio, I knew this would be my tattoo shop to not only stop in to say hello but to get tattoos done. This place is my second home. When I got my 2nd tattoo done, The work space was clean, and in order. I was pleased to see Sammi changing her gloves a few times. It made me much at ease to know that the place takes the cleanliness seriously. The form you fill out is thorough as well as the after care sheet. The after care sheet was so much better than the little sheet I got when I got my first tattoo done in NY. I still have the after care sheet so when I plan my 3rd tattoo, I'll have it handy. Tara is amazing. I went to see her to fix up a bad tattoo from decades ago and she free lanced it. She did such an amazing job I went to her again a few weeks ago for my second tattoo. I had emailed her that I want 3 butterflies to represent my children in their favorite colors. I didn't want any flowers or anything between. Tara did an amazing job. She makes you feel comfortable at all times. The atmosphere of the shop is cool and relaxing. The girl at the desk is friendly and outgoing. I truly recommend getting a tattoo here. read more
