The lack of professionalism and basic manners made the whole experience really upsetting. I left feeling bad instead of cared for.

When I came in to pick them up they looked really small, like child size. I clarified that my son is not a child but a full grown man, and Boris assured me that they were exactly the same frames. I took them home and indeed they were much too small. Also my son tells me the other frames had springs so were more wearable. These were uncomfortable and just looked silly. We went back and very gently tried to explain that these were not the correct frames and that they did not fit. He got quite loudly and aggressively up in my face to tell me 20+ times that they were the same frames, that I could look at his records, and that my son had clearly grown, and it was my fault. No, my son has not grown in the last year. He has been this size for quite some time. I asked him to stop repeating that and just LOOK at my son wearing the clearly too small glasses. He acquiesced to bend the frames so while they still look silly, they at least do not hurt. Look, they are not the same frames. I am 100% sure of it. If he wants to think that I am just some crazy woman, then fine, but make sure I leave with a pair of wearable glasses and I'll be your customer for life. wtf?

The interior of the practice itself is decorated with obvious delight and joy, with a clear emphasis on being a safe space for clients. Dr. Ah-Kiné fosters a sense of relaxed competence and straightforward communication that is all too often a rare thing in medical professionals. They explained the procedures as they performed them, gave no judgements or lectures for any information I offered (I'm getting better about sleeping in contacts, I promise), and overall gave me their full attention for the length of my appointment. Mac was similarly a warm and welcoming help in discussing options for contact pricing and glasses, and the front desk staffperson was prompt, friendly, and had truly fantastic eyeliner wings. :) Overall: Gaze is 100% my new go-to eye doctor, no question about it. Dr. puts his patients first and goes out of his way to help them and answer their questions. No question is ever too stupid for him to answer- and he respects the inquiries of all of his patients. He can make your glasses there and they'll be ready in a couple of hours. If he doesn't have your lens he will order them and will be there in no time at all. I just bought my first pair of glasses with progressives, yes we will all get there some time in our lives lol. He did not charge me for the new lens (based on a new prescription)! In passing I had mentioned that I realized I didn't really like the reading glasses after all, and he exchanged the frame, again without charge. He knows his business and values his customers, and I am now a loyal one.

Unethical and unprofessional experience at Harvard Square Eye Care…read more On July 28, 2025, my daughter went in for a routine eye exam. The appointment lasted about 25 minutes, including dilation. At the end, the office charged her for a contact lens exam, even though she was never told it was being done -- and no contact lens prescription was provided. When I questioned the charge, I explained I wanted to speak with the doctor before paying. The office manager (Kathy A.) told me I could not leave without paying. When I refused, she became visibly upset and told a staff member to cancel my daughter's prescription on the spot. This felt like a threat and retaliation. The next day, the staff member (Kyle) admitted that they often withhold prescriptions if patients don't pay upfront, and that the cancellation was ordered because they assumed I wouldn't pay. I emailed the doctor, Dr. Shah, for clarification on whether a contact lens exam had even been performed -- but never received a reply. Ultimately, they sent only a glasses prescription, not a contact lens one. This kind of behavior -- surprise billing, withholding prescriptions, and refusing to clarify services -- is deeply unprofessional and possibly unethical. I've filed a formal complaint with the Massachusetts Board of Optometry. Patients deserve transparency and respect -- not billing pressure and threats.
