This is our "go to" wine store in downtown Winnetka. Totally puzzled by negative reviews about feeling not welcomed by the owner. She is very nice lady who is always helpful and cheerful. Oh, and her dog Mick is so adorable and very large too! Very good wine selection, well curated. Pretty nice variety and different prices points. As an added bonus, we started new tradition: stopping by Good Grapes after dinner to buy and open a good bottle of wine with F&F. You can sit right there in the store at one of the few tables. It is really cozy neighborhood place, highly recommend to check it out. read more

This is a quaint, little wine bar in downtown Winnetka. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about wines and has a great selection. They have live music on summer nights during the weekends and it's just a great place to come hang out and have a glass of wine. Theresa has excellent taste in wine and a great range to choose from - cost friendly and also high end. Rare finds and fan favorites (but not generic). Theresa is very helpful - she knows what she's talking about and is very attentive! We love the Wine Club and Friday Music! The owner is a total pill. She is rude and not customer focused. Also found a lot of dusty bottles in the shop so obviously she isn't moving a lot of inventory. I live in the neighborhood and I hope their is a better shop that comes in when she inevitably closes her doors. She illegally responded to our service dog for my deaf husband by saying her grandparents are deaf and they didn't need a service dog. She then said her dog barks so therefore our dog was not welcome. That of course is not our problem as her dog was inside. I encourage her to not break the law in the future. Plenty of other places to buy good wine. I will encourage my neighbors in Winnetka and colleagues around the North Shore not to go here. Sour experience. Go down the street to La Taquiza for drinks. I have been shopping at this store since it opened. Theresa has always been accommodating, very pleasant, and so very knowledgeable about wines. I will tell her my dinner plans and my price point for a wine. Each and every time she recommends spot on wines. She has a loyal following in the community. Moreover, she gives back in a myriad of ways. Her business is an asset to the community. read more

While visiting family they suggested a visit to this business, which advertised "Fridays · Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend · 7pm - 9pm   Join us for Fab Friday Live Outdoor Music! Sing or dance to songs that you know every word while enjoying an adult beverage and charcuterie." Upon arrival, we, a party of 5, joined two small tables together outdoors. I went into the shop and initially selected 1 bottle of wine, whilst her very large dog barked. She told me there was a $30 minimum, so I selected another bottle of wine. I asked if there was a bottle of the same wine that had been chilled and she pulled out a bottle from the bottom of the cooler. The label was smudged, worn, and blackened on the edges. I questioned the appearance of the bottle and she said it happens when stacking wine in the cooler. When I began to pay, she said the minimum was actually $60, since we were seated in 5 chairs surrounding 2 small tables. So i would have to buy more wine, $30 more, in order for my party of 5 to stay. It is my opinion that this proprietor is an extraordinarily poor hostess, she's rude at minute one. She should also more clearly explain her policies when advertising such events and apply them equitably. I will not return. read more

I went in to Good Grapes today after hearing a lot about natural wines in Bon Appetit magazine. At only 22 years old, I don't know a lot about wine in general, but know that I trust BA and their recommendations. So, I went in asking to see their natural (organic) wine selection and was basically ridiculed for my request. I told the sales woman that I liked white wine and she said they only had one in stock. I would have been more than happy with this if she had told me about the bottle or it's flavor but instead she said "I'll sell this to you I'll sell it to anyone with an ID". She then again made me feel stupid for wanting to try a natural wine but not having an expertise or flavor that I preferred. I guess they don't like to cater to/help inexperienced customers! Good to know. I'll try Binny's next and see if they have more selection / guidance. read more

this was one of the worst wine shop experiences in my life! The owner was demeaning, rude and knew nothing about wine. It made me sad for her that someone who has such an opportunity right in front of her is actually turning people away and looking at the other reviews it seems I am not the first to have this experience. I always like to support small businesses but she is the reason people go to Binny's. This owner is delirious and clearly not in touch with people who are unable to afford high priced wines. She is not creative or willing to put the client first. She is putting her own needs before her clients. The wine business is all about the customer and this shop is far from that. There is a reason no one was in the shop on a prime time weekday. Actions speak louder than words. read more

I try to make an effort to shop locally and support small businesses and I love it when doing so results in a great shopping experience. I don't know a ton about wine but I know, in general terms and layman's language, what I like. I very much appreciate being able to walk into Good Grapes and say, "I'm hosting book club for twelve, we all love Prosecco," or "I'd like a red that's good for sipping with appetizers," or "How about a white that goes well with spicy food?" and Theresa will immediately know what to recommend. It takes all the guesswork out of something I want to get right without a lot of effort on my part (I'm lazy, what can I say?). Good Grapes has wine in a range of price points but you can be assured that a less expensive bottle of wine won't be of poor quality. I also like how beautifully the bottles are wrapped, that I can wander in when I'm out for a walk and then come back later to pay and pick up, and that Good Grapes is sometimes at the Saturday farmers market. I love this wine shop! The proprietor is so friendly, unpretentious, and helpful at making recommendations. We live around the corner and pop in here often. She is flexible and accommodating for many types of events or tastings. We brought a preschool moms' group here for a wine tasting recently, and everyone had a great time. read more

Hope they make it but the owner has a bad attitude and her dog jumps and she could care less. Binnys in Glencoe is a better option and way friendly staff too! As a Somm I enjoy these shops and I'll never go back to this one. Besides I saw her shun a Wine rep in the worst way and I felt the pain of that rep. Makes me not want to support. Excellent selection of wines at good prices. We visited from out of town. She did have her dog with her, but that is something that I was used to and she was very polite about it. I received three bottles of wine as a gift - none of which was my taste. I had been looking forward to trying this wine shop and went to exchange these bottles. I have exchanged wine in other local wine-shops with no questions. It had been fewer than five days since the wine had been purchased and the wine was presented in a Good Grapes wine bag and bow. I was told that "wine is food and laws don't allow exchange". Hog-wash! The proprietress was dismissive and unyielding. I would never set foot in her establishment again and plan to advise everyone I know to boycott as well. When you are trying to be successful in a local small business, you have to act like it. read more
