It's really, really, REALLY rundown looking. The refrigeration systems and the shelves look fairly dated. But their overall stock is full here and there's staff walking around restocking and even watching you while you walk through. There's definitely a good variety of ingredients and brands I didn't really recognize, so they carry a lot of things. The prices on many items here were like conveinence store prices, but maybe it's like that for the the city and area. So lots of selection, but absolutely not much of a vibe here - just shop and that's it. They do play Cantonese and Mandarin songs on the speaker system, so that's kind of cool. Review #904 2025-#078 I discovered Good Fortune Supermarket because it shares parking with Yi Mei (refer to Review #903). I had some time to kill before having brunch with my brother, so my son & I browsed the supermarket to see if there's any goods that are interesting or a good deal. The market is well-stocked & organized, but the floors are dingy & screams for a deep clean. Yikes! Though the items on the shelves look like there's been turnaround since they're not dusty. Whew! =) Its offerings are similar to the local Asian markets, with a little less variety at slightly higher prices. The fresh fruits were absurdly pricey IMO, but there were a few "sales" though they're still higher than regular pricing elsewhere. Since we're over an hour from home, I only picked up some snacks like roasted peanuts (I love the Farmer Brand!), fermented hawthorn, & some biscuits. The cashiers were friendly... asked if I found everything I needed, & also greeted my son & asked if hawthorn is his favorite treat. While I didn't have any 好運氣 (good fortune) in finding any deals, I get some yummy treats for my 6 YO to nosh on while waiting for my brother. I prefer the Main St. location in Alhambra, but they've been temporarily closed since 09/2024; I usually shop there when I'm in the area because of the eateries nearby. This is a decent Asian market with mid-range pricing. Some items were good, while others were not and were a bit pricey. They also charge about 25 cents per paper bag. Overall, it's convenient when you're just grabbing a few things and are in the area. read more

I have been going to this place since I moved to Duarte in 2016. And this grocery is like a heaven of asian foods...hahaha ! They have discounted stuff on Wednesday and have dry and fresh products like sea foods, crabs, frish, shrimps and frogs ! They have good choices of meat, beef and pork.... Prices are really affordable ! Place is clean. Staff are very helpful though not a lot speak English they try to assists if they can. Show them a picture and they will show you the ailse where you can find the product with a big smile. If I may suggest, when you go to this grocery, do not rush ! This supermarket is within walking distance from my apartment and I am so glad that I found this place. I got 4 garlic for $1 which is good price compared to Vons. The haagendaz is $0.20 cheaper than vons. It is $6.29 per pint. The place is clean and the cashier works fast. Wide variety of almost anything in an Asian market. I know what to expect when I come here & it's usually everything BUT the fruits... I don't mind haha. Staff are very nice & patient as I place all my items on the belt, but maybe that's just my experience as I'm usually in a hurry, which they seem to appreciate. It is really disappointing to walk into a place and receive crazy amounts of looks and Aunt racism when you are not the same ethnicity as these door employees and the majority of the store customers just because I am not an Asian descent does not mean I do not appreciate Asian cuisine and Asian ingredient. That being said, I think people should be a little bit more accommodating, especially when they have no idea who is in their store. I am a chef and I have four restaurants and I am constantly looking for new and exciting ingredients to prepare my food because I don't believe that Food is just for one particular ethnicity or race. If you don't want to drive all the way to Hmart for an Asian grocery store, this is one of the closest for Monrovia residents. I don't think the meat looks the freshest, as they typically don't have the bright red color that 99 Ranch or Hmart has. I've often bought pork or beef that's on the duller red side. The vegetables are a hit or miss. We bought a bag of bok choy previously that had a caterpillar in it..we had left it in the refrigerator and the leaves had so many holes from the caterpillar eating through it. However, I will say it has most of your common Asian items. It has the usual sauces like hoisin, peanut sauce, soybean paste, cooking wine, etc. Either I've always missed it or they just don't carry the fresh flat rice noodles used typically to make beef chow fun or soup dishes, so they carry a limited selection of fresh noodles, as well as wonton/dumpling wrappers. We did find rice paper and other essentials to make things like spring rolls or pho. read more

9/30/2024 @ 9:06 am - Upon checking out at station 5 by cashier #142, she boldly stated that my son and I were standing there doing nothing, and that we could have used that time to bag the groceries with the two bags we purchased. I asked her if grocery bagging was no longer a part of their service. Cashier #142 said you are not old or disabled, especially since your son is young and is just standing there doing nothing. I asked her to define disability, how she could tell if my son is not disabled, and why customers who paid for the groceries deserve a scolding from her. She continued to complain while bagging the groceries. I will be making a formal complaint to the store about discrimination. read more

GFS is a grocery store that's located on Duarte Road. They are next to Jim's Burger and share the same parking lot. I tend to find a lot of goodies that Ranch 99 or H mart doesn't carry. The interior of the store smells like cleaning agents so you know they do a good job in cleaning. However, I have found some produce that are not as fresh. They are either close to expiration or starting to deterioate. Some of their staff doesn't speak English so it is hard to find some items. You have to look carefully as some of the items with a best buy date are either not marked or already past expiration. read more

The produce/fruits here are terrible. I spent $40+ on fruits and they were all rotten. Watermelon was bad inside and inedible. The pineapple also rotten inside and had a bad taste/chemical flavor. The nectarines were sweet but all brown inside?!??!!!!! The peaches were the same way, brown inside instead of a white flesh. I dont know where they are buying their fruit or how they are storing it but they are trying to sell you rotten/bad produce and not even cheap prices either. I wont be coming back here ever again due to this terrible experience. Dont bother coming here for fruit and go somewhere else. This place is definitely no H-Mart, but for those that are looking for a quick item or two to grab specifically in an Asian Market, this place will do the job. It's definitely cleaner than Green Market in El Monte, so I'll give that a bonus star as a start. They've got a lot of the items that I've been seeing on Tik tok, for example the instant hot pot and the canned boba as well some Ube items, which if you wanna learn thing about me, Ube has my heart. I came with my mom who ordered some fish and produce to cook at home along with some Asian medicine which you can't find at any other traditional American markets. One of my favorite Asian Market! Not too crowded and always have what I am looking for.

Good Fortune Supermarket is the anchor tenant, and relative newcomer of the shopping center at the intersection of Duarte Road and sixth Avenue on the border of Arcadia and Monrovia. Considering Jim's burgers in the same parking lot has been here for probably 40 or 50 years... Just guessing... The four or so years that good fortune has been a neighbor, even through Covid, means they must be doing something right. As a resident of this area for the last couple decades, I visit Asian supermarkets with frequency. I have my favorites, but every now and again, it's fun to duck in to one I seldom visit, just to see what's going on. Towards the end of the summer, I found myself across the street at 7-Eleven, And on a whim, did a lap through the store. Compared to my visit a few years ago when they first opened, The store has shifted into Cruise mode: there still sweeping up, cleaning up spills, and keeping the place relatively clean. The shelves were stocked with the usual fair, with isles full of every conceivable sauce, and dozens of different iterations of black beans and chili. You know what I'm talking about. That not-entirely-unpleasant-tropical-fruit-almost-over-ripening smell... Science nerd will tell you it's Etheline gas... hangs in the air when you walk through the produce section. No, that's not just the dragon fruit and Darians, it's kind of everything. meats and seafood as the usual stuff, with a few exotics... Nothing like the frozen case at Hawaii supermarket on Valley, but more than you're going to find down the street at Pavilions. To be honest, I always like to try to walk out of a store like this with a box of frozen squid, generally destined for use as bait on my next fishing trip. Alas, like the Arcadia supermarket also down the street, and half a dozen other places nearby, this somewhat seasonal item doesn't seem to be stocked anymore. Cost of doing business probably too high with the local cephalopod racket. Speaking of prices, it is apparent that Arcadia rents for this large square footage tenant must be pretty high; didn't find a deal here on grass jelly tea or pocky or even a bag of lychee that were pretty tasty, but starting to turn the corner towards the compost pile in the back corner of my yard. All the same, I'm glad to have this option when my kid needs some weird giant plastic bowl, or a cheap colander to use as a sifter on a beach trip. I will give it 3-star if I don't have this plate of cumquats in front of me. I have a dinner to cook for a friend, and I went to Good Fortune Market yesterday for purchasing the stuff I need. I bought pork, fish, chicken, seafood, etc., and a bag of cumquats. BTW, I found several imported beverages made from milk, what's the purpose for that? Is American milk not as good as China's milk? China's dairy product has such a bad reputation, their formula even made several children die. Today, I washed the cumquats and served them to my friend, he barely ate them. I had several after he left, the cumquats are TOO sour to eat. Come on, not several are sour but others are sweet, they are all very very sour. I don't why such a fruit can be sold in the market. I had gotten very good cumquats from Sprouts. I used to like Good Fortune Market. I can always get fresher vegetables from there, even it is darker and dirtier than 99 Ranch Market. I also can get pork fat for boiling into lard which I can't get anywhere else. But I also had several bad experiences from Good Fortune Market. Packaged noodles were already moldy when selling, packaged sushi wraps (inari) were already moldy when selling, keyed in original price when products were onsold. Not sure why this place has such low reviews but I enjoyed grocery shopping here! The market was clean, the market is huge and spacious, and it's not overly crowded. I like coming to this market to find odds and ends that are harder to find at other Asian markets. As great as it is to find those items, the customer service here sucks. Apparently you can "save" your spot in line at a cashier by throwing down one item on the belt and as long as you come back, the cashier will let you cut in line to the front. Some lady put down her shrimp and I didn't know it didn't belong to the person in front of me (how would I considering it was grouped together with the person in front?) A lady comes back with a whole cart full of items and the cashier let her cut to the front. I was paying for 3 items and there was only 1 person behind me with a couple items. The cashier should have told her to wait. It is the second time that has happened to me here. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

I shop here often, and during my last visit to purchase seafood, the gentleman at the fish department kept insisting that I cross and walk into the alley to let him know which fish I want. I told him any fish is fine with me, because I don't want to risk walking over the puddle of water and wet floor and taking the risk of slipping and falling. He pointed to the wet floor and said the puddle is not too bad and insist and I walk into the employee working area. I had to report this because I am very uncomfortable with this man's gesture and rudeness. I would hold the market management and owner accountable for all liability. I found Momo Bistro on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The food was so blah but I'm glad we went to this market afterwards. The fresh jujubes (枣) are supper sweet. The ones I got from other Chinese markets are not even comparable. I have a small sugarcane jujubes tree at home and these jujubes are just as sweet as the ones from my tree. I even found goose gizzards and razor clams here. Their live blue carbs are ALL alive. No died ones. I live far from the Chinese areas so I don't go to Chinese markets that often and I don't have that many stores to compare. But to my experience, this store has better quality and is way cleaner than typical Chinese markets. read more

Grocery shopping in Los Angeles... I drove past this Asian grocery store; liked the name; and stopped by. During my first visit, I was looking at fresh fruit. The prices weren't as good as I had seen a couple of weeks ago, so I left. I returned a couple of days later to look for noodles for chop chae. Yes - there were many choices. Yay! This is one of the most organized and clean Asian markets I've ever been to! Everything is perfectly placed on the shelves and the floors are super nice and clean! I came here for one item only, yet came out with quadruple that. I cannot resist the cookies and candies! Parking is a little tricky but it's not too bad. This is a racist market. Expect to be questioned on your way out if you are not Chinese. I am a Latino senior, disabled, clean, educated, yet I was stopped on my way out of the market by a big obnoxious Asian security guard. I was made to open my bag and show my receipt and prove that I paid. He said he has to stop people that don't pay, though I had just paid at a nearby register. The security guard was abusive, rude, and disrespectful. He spoke to me like I was a thief. I shop here because it is a block from where I live. I have never been treated like this in a store. The guard was threatening and demanding. I became flustered and confused and I had difficulty finding my receipt for an $8 purchase. Really? They're so greedy and racist. The guard did not make any of the Chinese customers stop and prove their payment. No one from the store came to help me or see what was the problem. I was fearful that the big, fat guard would attack me or hurt me. I finally found my receipt in my pocket. He was so loud and threatening. He embarrassed me in front of all the other customers. Do not shop here if you are not Chinese. They don't care. I've been a good customer over the years and this is how they treated me. Please boycott this market. I just went to buy food but because I didn't help the cashier put my things outside, the cashier kept throwing my things and in the end even knocked the basket to the ground. It was a very unpleasant experience. I have never encountered such a service staff before! I wanted to speak to the manager, but the cashier turned around and left to buy their own groceries! As of today 2/27/16, they are open for business. But don't jump in your car to hurry down here. Most of their shelves are empty and some aisles are blocked w/ boxes. As I entered, I was immediately met with the smell of paint and cleaning agents. An employee was seen riding a floor sweeper leaving trails of dirty soap water as he maneuvered around the aisles. As for products, I'd say the entire store was about 25% stocked, mostly in the produce section, ramen and snack aisles and some ice cream. From what I saw, no items had a price tag except for the produce. Since this opening was premature, it's fair to give them an average score of 3. I suggest coming here in a week or two to give them time to stock the shelves and put up price tags. I shop here cause its the closet Asian market near me; however, it is not my favorite store. Ít customer service is below zero. Especially the meat department, I deal with one guy there and he was very rude and obsnocious. When I go there for a few item, I always remind myself that don't talk, don't ask anything, just get what you need, pay and get out. I am not familiar with Asian grocery stores, so some of the items that they have available make for a unique experience for me. Durian fruit, live soft shell turtles, live bull frogs, jellyfish, an entire aisle dedicated entirely to dried Asian noodles. $10 minimum on Credit cards and the language barrier between the cashier and I made for a lousy transaction. My $8 and change purchase didn't meet the minimums and since it is 2017, I don't carry cash anymore. I didn't see any signs mentioning a minimum at all and especially not as I entered the store. The cashier tapped on a sign stating it at the register apparently although I didn't see it. An interesting adventure turned into a frustrating experience.
