I really smell something cooking when I walked into Good Egg!! There is a small kitchen at the back of the store and something really cooking on the stove. Good Egg is not just a cookbook store, cool kitchenware store, great gift store... It also held cooking classes... Maybe I need that more than a cookbook?!

    Lots to peruse.

This is one of those stores that draws you in with the kitchiness of it all and spits you back out onto the sidewalk wondering what just happened. I found myself doing laps around the place wondering what I was going to see next that I must have and should buy, but maybe another day. Filing items away in my memory, hoping they will pop back into mind at the right moment, 'o yeah, I saw one at Good Egg'. Reminiscent of a head shop, some of the items will make you wonder what they are for, and others, like the pepper grinders, stick in my mind as a 'must have item'. The books are drool worthy, rich and delightful, even if you only dwell on the covers. Kudos to the staff for bringing a world of the extraordinary to Kensington!!

You can peruse the latest cookbooks from your favorite restaurant, then look at the Marimekko aprons.

Do you love junk? Do you love to walk around and look and touch old objects that you can't believe…read moreare still around in the original package? This place is crazy. There are vintage items, new items, things that you don't have any idea how long they have been there. Then strangely enough, there were shoes and clothes in the back. I bought the cutest little turquoise flats. I know I stayed in there an hour nosing around, it is the kind of place that my husband would have passed out if he had to hang out in there with me. It is on the list when I return to Toronto. Have I told you lately how much I heart Toronto?

I hope Sasmart lasts forever. It's clearly been around for a long time. This may be apparent from…read moreits somewhat-dated exterior, but mostly because of the assortment of surprisingly affordable great-quality, new-vintage house- and cookware. Agree with the previous 5-star reviews - it's a hard place to sum up in a sentence, because you really don't know what oddball kitschy gift or really useful gadget you'll end up finding. I've bought really cheap unused vintage wrapping paper and 2B pencils, a huge plastic washing/ bathing tub, new glass and wood storage canisters made in France (for an incredible deal), and a kitsch stationery holder shaped like a lion for a friend's birthday. You will find fantastic deals here on great-quality stuff - much cheaper than nearby carefully-curated kitchen stores. Because much if not most of the wares here are unused vintage, a lot of them are made in places like Canada/France/Italy and before everything became disposable. The folks that own/run the place are very friendly, and have a sweet old pug that sometimes sleeps behind the counter. I've generally stayed out of the clothing section, but thanks to a previous reviewer, it looks like I'll have to check it out! Sasmart sits opposite grungy Bellevue Square park, just off the beaten path of Augusta. I highly suggest that you pay a visit next time you're in the market!
