I had my first haircut with Mr. and Mrs. Choi this past week. I found them through Yelp when I was in the Glendale area. After reading a number of reviews, I decided to give them a visit. My last barber was a little too aggressive with my head and wasn't attentive to detail; a very different experience at Good Barber. I was very impressed with Mr. Choi's work. I honestly felt like a pageant dog you see on social media, where the groomer perfects the roundest ball of fluff, demonstrating their skill while highlighting the characteristics of the model. During my visit, I sat in silence while Mr. Choi cut my hair. He has very little to say, and so did I. He had asked the hairstyle I was imagining and he started. I was covered in a leopard print hair cape while I watched women's tennis (muted) as he cut my hair, occasionally looking at myself in the mirror. Mrs. Choi cleaned the edges on my neck with a razor. Mr. Choi has shared that he started cutting hair when he was 14 years old and have been cutting hair for 49 years. He has been in Glendale for the last 17 years. He certainly has a lot of pride in his work -- he didn't show me a mirror when he was done; he just walked away. While I think his work is excellent, I do think the experience is not for everyone. Everything about Good Barber is traditional - the technique, the décor, the mannerisms and overall vibe. He only accepts cash and prefers you call for an appointment. The hair cut was $23 (a $6 increase from 2019); a very modest rate compared to other barbers in the area. Street parking isn't too hard to find. I always go to this place for a nice clean cut! The owners (very hospitable couple) of the shop run the place by themselves and only the husband cuts hair, but they have a very efficient system. Nothing too flashy about the shop, but I always receive a warm welcome every time I go to get a fresh cut. The owner has also told me that he has been cutting hair since he was 14! Not only does this prove his expertise, but it shows the dedication he has when he gives cuts to his customers! Even when I live in San Diego I still go to this place because I know I'll always get a good cut from them! I went here a couple of times as this barber shop is a 10 minute walk from my home. As others griped, he does not speak English. The worst part was his attitude. I asked him for a "zero" length haircut, thinking that would be the shortest length (like shaving down to my scalp), but he cuts it much longer than I liked, more like a "two". I said I want it shorter, that this is not a "zero". He became extremely upset, which just made me flabbergasted. What did I do wrong? My wife then had to translate to him that I wanted it shorter. He then proceeded to call my wife my "mother". Twice! This was the last straw as it was just condescending and insulting. I have not been there since. Unfortunately, this shop is on the way to my job so I have to pass by there everyday and just looking at that shop and the barber makes me so mad and resentful. Why do I have to go through such emotions just to go to work!? I am glad that I am not the only one with a not-so-"good" experience here. read more

It's operated by a beautiful couple, she gets you ready as he gets ready to give you a fast and amazing cut, he is great with scissors, once he is done she finishes the cut and gives you a nice shampoo. Came here to get a quick cut Father's Day early Sunday morning. Wasn't packed, and I was seated very quickly. I simply wanted a 0 to 2 midfade on the sides and a slight trim on the top. Mr. Choi was so nice and attentive to what I wanted. I could tell throughout the haircut that he cares very much about the quality of the cut, and he's the first barber who I've experienced fades primarily with scissors (very cool). If you're looking for quick haircut, this place is for you. If you're looking for a good haircut, it really isn't. I had very basic and specific instructions. My hair that I usually get done at a professional hair salon in Koreatown needed a small 1 inch trim on the ends to freshen things up. No style changes, just the ends. I also asked him to get rid of my sideburns. He said "1 inch off?" to which I replied yes-- thinking we're aligned. He proceeded to chop off a good 2-3 inches leaving me with a haircut with no resemblance to what I had earlier, except my sideburns which were left untouched; the exact opposite of what i asked for. Seems to me that the issue wasn't communication, but more an issue of technique. Prices were also increased from what people are saying in these reviews. If you're looking a nice cut, pay an extra $10 and please get a haircut by someone with more attention to detail. read more

He's a great barber with very affordable prices. I have thick Asian hair and I have to say he knows how to cut it quickly, efficiently, but with a good eye for detail. The fact that he is able to do a fade with scissors is great as well as many barbers don't know how to do this, and it definitely leaves a more natural look in the hair as it grows out. Prices are very affordable as well for $15 for a basic haircut, and $17 for haircut plus shampoo as of June 2018. I'm not sure if he does more extravagant styles you may find at fancy salons and $40+ barbershops, but if you want a no-frills, neat, well done classic haircuts, this is a great shop to visit. Side note: he doesn't speak English all too well, but as long as you are patient, and bring in a picture to give an idea of what you want, you'll be in good hands. read more

I was really happy getting my hair cut here. After living in and out of various countries in Asia, I have been trying to find a legit barber who actually cares about his work, uses those small hand-held razors for detailed shaping on the edges, and tosses in a small shoulder massage at the end. Not a "Good Barber" to say the least. Haircuts like a good meal shouldn't be rushed. They should be a time to relax a moment while you get taken care of with a cut you want. I felt no care here. I understand thing are just getting back to normal but this was not okay. I'm not happy with this rush job. There was no care for my wanting it clean. With nobody in front of me and nobody waiting. You have to know what style of hair cut you want though, have a picture ready or even point at the poster that has sample types of hair cuts on it.
