It was my first time visiting Garoon today. They're not my usual barber shop, but here's why I'm coming back here again if I'm in the area: 1). Sticker shock - what they charge for the exact haircut I asked for is ridiculously reasonable! Just go see for yourself...for a minute I thought the price listed was an old one from a long time ago, but to my shock, it's actually what they charge. I may have misunderstood, but when I was ready to pay, I think I was given the choice of how much to pay within the price range. 2). Value - The kind gentleman who cut my hair said his name is Jacob. He spent over half an hour paying amazing attention to detail. I thought I was a detail oriented person, but Jacob...he gets into the minutia. Also, Jacob used so many different tools in his barber arsenal I lost count. 3). Service - Plenty of businesses are happy to take your money and fool you with pretense, trying to make you think they somehow deserve to overcharge you. This place is none of that foolishness. This experience was a SOLID customer service display. The man even helped me put on my jacket when I was leaving. Who does that these days in a barber shop? Impressive, service! An amazing 5 star experience!! Don't let the size of the barber shop fool you; there are 2 barber chairs and a hairwash station. However, what these guys lack in square footage they make up for in pizzaz, style, and great customer service!!! The boy needed a haircut -bad. After an extremely lack luster service at a local Hollywood barber shop I decided to expand my radius and take a look for somewhere else that would be a million times better. The boy is one of those old timey traditional kind of guys, so I wanted to look for somewhere that screamed "old school traditional" and not "baller gangsta big screen plasma". A quick search lead me to Garoon, which is a short walk away from the Glendale Galleria. We both walked in with no appointment, and we were both greeted accordingly. Siroush greeted him with a firm handshake and a welcome gesture towards an open chair and I was greeted (I believe by Garoon) with a kiss on the hand, and an offer of coffee (which I declined), and candy (which I accepted!). Siroush was even nice enough to change the TV station from some Armenian programming to an English version of "The View" for me. I didn't ask for the station to be changed, but don't think that went unnoticed. The boy explained what he wanted done (short on the sides, longer on top, with a shave) and Siroush got to work. Garoon, who was finishing up with a client came to talk to me after he was done, and although there was a bit of a language barrier with both men - they are both HYSTERICAL! Siroush lightly buzzed Tylers hair before he really got to work with scissors. he cleaned up his neck line, ear line, and took care of the fuzzy mess that was my boyfriends hair. He also shaved his face with a straight razor, cleaned up his stache, and (HALLELUJAH!!!) took care of Tylers eyebrows which were in a bit of a grown out stage. Now Tyler has baby baby skin (he's going to love me putting that on the internet) so his skin - especially his neck did get a bit irritated with the straight razor. But Siroush took care of that by putting calming lotion, baby powder, after shave, and everything else you can throw at a mans skin that is so sensitive it is irritated by a feather. All in all he pampered Tyler as much as a manly man will let you pamper them. Tyler came out looking even more fantastic, and the haircut and a shave cost $20 pre-tip. You know a place is good when a picky picky picky man leaves and goes "I've found my new barber shop" and for this they deserve 5 stars! read more

The ten dollar haircut that's worth thirteen. As someone who gets the "senior" buzz cut I can generally go to almost any barber shop and my hair will look as good as it ever will. What I liked about this place was attention to detail. The barber I saw had the chair further from the door (I didn't catch his name). Unlike many places I've been to, he took care of those pesky hairs on the ears as well as clipped the rogue ones in my eyebrows, completely without being asked. He went over each area a few times to even everything out, and the hair line around the ears is very even and smooth. A great haircut. Most places charge $13 for a lesser job. I would also add that there is easy parking and the area is very safe, unlike what you find around many of the less pricey barbershops. CASH ONLY I've been looking for a new barber since relocating. Although I have been in and around Glendale for some time now I always got my cuts in OC. And you know how much it really sucks to relocate, leave your established hair stylist, and start back from square one. I called in advance to see if they accepted walk-ins. Let's just say that it doesn't help when (a) there is a language barrier and (b) cell reception stinks where you are. So I just went for it considering that they're just a hop, skip, and jump from the Galleria. It's a small lot but I must have been lucky for a weekday afternoon. Inside it's your typical no-frills barbershop. They have TVs running behind the chairs so that you can get your CNN fix (?) while your hair is being cut. There isn't much dialog because unless you speak Armenian, you're almost out of luck. Although I'm born here I don't speak the language...yet there's an unspoken understanding.* Without being asked they took care of my eyebrows and other rogue hairs because like my fellow brethren we can be a bit on the hairy side. They also really took their time to get my receding line taken care of. The result? A clean fade that probably would have cost $15 but ended up being $10. Not bad. This just may end up becoming my new barber. Stay tuned. * Soapbox time. I've seen other reviews about barbershops around Glendale being "racist" or playing favorites. Guess what? I've been going to Garoon since the original owner Krikor started his own shop in Glendale. Krikor spoke very little English but had been cutting my hair since elementary school. When I was in college he finally retired, but came in to "train" the new owner Khachik on how to cut my hair. Sadly Krikor passed away a few years later - I will always miss him very much. Khachik has been taking care of cutting my hair since then. Yes, he doesn't speak that much English but its far better than my Armenian since I know only a few curse words- but still we have managed over the years to communicate quite well. I have been to other barbers during this time and have always regretted doing so and was never as satisfied by my cut as I always have been and always will be if I go to Garoon. And yes, I have been at the shop when I had to wait my turn - this happens with all popular barbers. Its nothing I would care to complain about because it is worth the wait. Go ahead and go to some high priced place if you want if you are going to complain about appointments being met promptly. I am sure Fantastic Sams or Supercuts will treat you as indifferently as they treat all their other customers and you won't likely see the same barber ever again even if you are repeat customer. I for one am content to sit at Garoon and wait my turn. And if you are going to get all butt hurt because you feel that they are warmer towards regular customers than they are to you as you scowl at them because of the wait, perhaps you need to understand what building a rapport with your barber entails. Sure whatever random barber that you happen to be assigned to at other places may kiss your ass better if that's what you really want. For me I will continue to go to Garoons, listen to the old dudes who I routinely see in the shop and over the years have begun to recognize on sight while they chat and joke around in Armenian, sipping coffee and tea while I wait for my turn in the seat. It's all part of the old school neighborhood barber shop experience after all that you will be hard pressed to find everywhere. read more

Best haircuts ever. This is the first place I have ever been where I like my hair immediately after walking out of the place. Every other time in my life that I have gotten a haircut, it's taken a couple weeks to grow in and look decent. First time i went to this barber in 1996 and was going there for 4 years, but after moving to new place decided to try new barber who was close to me. After going to the new place for about year i could see that i am still not geting what i used to get, not even close. So i decede to go back, even if i have to driver longer distance. Now i have been going there for another 10 years,though i now live even further away. I drive from Encino all the way to Glendale just to see him. Khachik is a great barber,, very experienced and is only one that knows how to make it wright for me. He is also very nice, kind and a friendly man.
