I just had the wildest bubble tea ever. I had no idea what "3J" was when I ordered so I just added pearls and coconut jelly as well. I guess the 3J is some kind of pudding because my bubble tea was full! There was so much stuff in it. But it was good! My partner got a honey Milk Tea with pearls which was also very tasty! Always go with light ice!! My only issue is that they only offer the Taro with Red Bean and I just don't love red bean. I love taro and wish they had the option for just taro milk tea! The BBT chains are popping up like crazy. Gong Cha's already opened up their second location; this one just off of Whyte nestled around the corner from Nongbu and Meiningful Fusion Restaurant. There's a couple tables and high chairs to sit at but for the most part, it's pretty small inside. Gotta love the Van Gogh replica with a rope blocking it off. So classy. The menu is smaller than other BBT spots, which I'm a fan of. Signature milk foam, milk tea, creative mixes, smoothies, brewed tea, fresh milk and coffee drinks. - Milk foam winter melon ($4.50) - this is one of their signature drinks. You can't customize the sugar level on this one as the mixture is pre-made. We found it a tad sweet for our tastes, however, it was light and satisfying. It reminded me of the drinks you can get at Gama Café. - Taro milk drink with red bean ($5.50) - the taro milk with red bean was pretty standard. Apparently, they use fresh taro. Can't say I ever really order taro but this one reminded me of drinking an Asian style oreo McFlurry. We got ours 70% sugar and zero ice. The more options, the merrier. I was craving bubble tea for so long and with the covid19 a lot of places are closed but find out in DoorDash that this place is open for delivery and pickup so i order one to pickup well a few more because of my family lol, i tried the milk tea, panda milk foam tea and the dragon fruit green tea all of them where delicious but my favorite was the panda one!!! This is my first time at Gong Cha. I ordered the strawberry slush and mango slush with white pearls. There are many tables for seating at this location to accommodate even large groups. There is free wifi for patrons to use. They have many options for drinks and many options for add ons. Prices are average and drinks are flavourful. My only suggestion for improvement is to decorate the bathroom better as it semi looked like a maintenance room. When we went it appeared that the main person was training so there was a slight delay but they were very efficient in packing up the drinks for us in drink trays and placing them in a handy to go bag. I will definitely return to try the other flavours. read more

On a Sunday Evening, this place is understaffed. Only one worker is running the whole place. Waited 40 mins to get our order. The tapioca pearls were all lumpy and bunched up. The avocado slush had chunks of avocado in the drink, no sugar, no taste. We couldn't drink any of our drinks. We went to this place twice, both times were super disappointing. I am a Taiwanese (bubble tea comes from Taiwan, that means I am a picky person for bubble tea). I have to say the bubble tea here is the best in town, better than Coco, teaspy or other else. Although it is not the best one I've ever have(the best bubble tea is absolutely in TAIWAN, they are extremely good and cheap), but the bubble tea here is good enough plus a fair price! :-) ps. Don't come here if you want a quick drink. 30 minutes in and they haven't even taken the order out of the machine. They only started working on our tiny order of 3 drinks once we asked where they were. 10 minutes later we got our drinks. Total time for three bubble teas = 40 minutes. Lord have mercy. I am glad I discovered Gong Cha, because I love bubble tea and I tend to hang out on this block quite a bit. It's a reasonably large space with lots of comfy seats and plug-ins for our devices, as well as very friendly staff. The selection of drinks is unique, with lots of toppings offered that I have not seen in any bubble tea place before. There are two sizes, which is great because sometimes I find the typical large size to be too much. I had a milk tea with pearls and Earl Grey, instead of the usual black tea (which was also an option). It was cold and refreshing. Prices are on average $5-$6 depending on size and toppings. I have a feeling I might be hanging out here on a regular basis. read more

Went to Gong Cha and ordered 3 drinks but it took 1 hour to make. They also had no pearls, so I substituted it with white pearls and got about 5 white pearls in my drink. I understand the holidays are a busy time but if it takes that long and you get the order wrong then at least compensate for it. Was very disappointed. Possibly my favourite bubble tea place in Edmonton. I visited during their opening day and they offered me a free wintermelon milk foam tea along with my order of an early grey tea with 3 jellies. Both the teas were excellent and I have already hone back for a second wintermelon tea. I didn't get a chance to check out the decor as it was very busy. But the location is convenient and it's a great bubble tea stop. The servers were friendly and fast. read more

My friend and I stopped by Gong Cha to grab drinks and check it out, as we had heard good things. WOW! We were definitely not disappointed! Gong Cha is a hole in the wall place on Whyte that doesn't look like much, but upon stepping inside, it was clean, minimalistic, and welcoming. The interior has many places to sit and chat. Although not as extensive as some of the other places around Edmonton, Gong Cha's menu offers a great variety of healthier, and more traditional, bubble tea flavours. They have butterfly pea tea, oolong, regular milk tea, as well as coffee, taro, and winter melon drinks. What I loved was that there were toppings such as pudding, grass jelly, red bean, and basil seeds available. These toppings are hard to find in other bubble tea places in Edmonton. I tried a taro with red bean milk drink, and this was the best taro drink I have had in Edmonton, to date. I got it at 100% sugar and no ice so that I would be able to taste how they made the taro, and the balance of sugar and milkiness was nice, not overwhelmingly sweet. The red bean added creaminess and texture to the drink, and it made good pairing. All in all, Gong Cha is a promising drink place, and I will most definitely be back to try more from their menu. Who knows? Maybe this will even be my go-to from now on! read more

Gong Cha has been my favourite bubble tea chain and I was glad to see it has finally come to Edmonton! They have a unique menu and my favourites include the lemon winter melon with basil seed (sounds weird but give it a try!) and the earl grey milk tea with 3 types of jelly. The staff are always friendly and unlike other places, they don't have the issue of frequently running out of ingredients. While their menu isn't as extensive as many other bubble tea chains, especially in regards to fruit-based drinks.. I would definitely suggest checking it out and trying some of their unique recommended drinks. read more

I ordered the special for the weekend a butterfly oolong fresh milk tea with added white sago. Amount of ice and sugar is always customizable. The large size was about $6. Whyte has several new bubble tea places, and this one takes the cake with unique drink offerings (wintermelon!) as well as fast and friendly service. Tucked away one block south of Whyte Ave and Calgary Trail on 81 ave, next to Cha Island, you are greeted by their clean and dark decor, a relatively short but interesting drink menu, and room for a few tables and couches. My new drink obsession is anything wintermelon, but they have other unique offerings including butterfly pea flower (the rainbow drink that changes colours), black forest, taro and lychee, passionfruit and mango teas/drinks to name a few, and unique toppings including milk foam, panda foam, basil seeds, Ai-Yu jelly, along with all the other "expected" toppings. But I digress. Wintermelon. My favourite drink here is the wintermelon drink with milk foam. It's the perfect mix of refreshing, sweet, salty and a teensy bit bitter. I like mixing in the milk foam with the rest of the drink, but they give you instructions on different ways to try the milk foam tea. The lemon wintermelon drink with basil seeds is also pretty great. Because it's not right on Whyte, the crowds have been at a minimum, so never a long wait. The workers are smiley and friendly, which is more than what can be said for other Whyte bubble tea joints (*coughChatimecough*). There are free parking passes here too! Poorly trained staff was my first impression, the bubble tea was powdery and didn't taste well. With the current business environment for BBT in YEG, I am not surprised that they are constantly doing promotional sales. Though, I suspect their sales still lags, partly because of its location and lack of recognition and fan base in Edmonton, but also largely because their staff members don't really know how to make the bubble tea... as a well-established international chain, i have no doubt towards their recipe.... but people, you need better training. Oh, and just for reference, I had their matcha bubble tea with pearls and traditional milk tea on separate occasions, the traditional milk tea is the lesser of the two evils. read more
