Had Gong Cha for the first time ever this week. I was surprised to find they didn't have my go-to order that I thought was pretty standard for all bubble tea places - roasted milk tea.
I got a large oolong milk tea with tapioca pearls, grass jelly, and milk foam. I got 30% sugar but didn't have the option to choose the amount of ice. Since it was a large, the ice was fine and glad I stuck to the lowest sugar, otherwise it might've been too sweet for me. At first I thought there could've been more pearls and grass jelly, but it ended up being just the right amount. The tapioca had a good bite to it. The milk foam was the salted kind, not overly so (I've had saltier elsewhere). The milk tea itself was good, but I still craved that roasted flavour.
I've actually never had a bubble waffle before, so I had to get one. I find not enough boba shops serve food and was happy to see it, and I also thought my little guy could try some as well. It was perfect, crispy around the edges and soft and fluffy "bubbles", sweet but not super. Happy I got the original for my first time.
Would like to try my second go-to order next time, taro, and maybe the mango bubble waffle. read more
