Rick and Elizabeth are the kind of people you hope to find in the auto repair world -- honest, trustworthy, and genuinely committed to their customers. They never try to upsell or push unnecessary services. If something doesn't need to be done, they'll tell you straight. That kind of integrity is rare and exactly why we've trusted them for everything from routine maintenance to major repairs. Their work is always top-notch and backed by a guarantee. We're moving soon, and honestly, one of the things we dread the most is having to find a new mechanic. Shops like Stan Rollison's are one in a million. Thank you, Rick and Elizabeth, for years of excellent service -- we're going to miss you!

Extremely bad work and shoddy parts…read more I had them install new brakes in the summer of 2024. By the winter of 2025, the brakes were wobbling. Apparently the brakes they installed were faulty (the rotors warped), but they still charged be $200 to replace them even though they were still under warranty. That would be fine, I guess, if they had done a good job or used good parts the second time, but it's been 2 months and my brakes are grinding and slipping. Apparently, the pins, the rotors, the pin boots, the pads, and a few other parts are so low quality that they're falling apart already. At this point, I'm not trusting my car to these guys again. I took my car to the mechanic near my work in Fredericksburg and paid him $500 to just do the job correctly. I deeply regret not taking my car to him in the first place, as he would have done a good job, stood by his work, and I wouldn't be out $700 for bad work and bad parts. Do yourself a favor and go to a different mechanic.

As soon as my free warranty services were up from the dealership, I have been taking my car to Caton's Auto Repair. They have NEVER made me feel like they are trying to upsell unnecessary products or swindling me by saying my car needs repairs when everything is fine. They also go back to look at your records, so if you aren't sure what maintenance services you need at your current mileage, they will ensure everything is done. The employees are always incredibly courteous and knowledgeable. With the thousands of dollars that I'm sure I've saved from not flushing my money away to a dealership that would nickel and dime me, the value of honesty and trust cannot be beaten. I enthusiastically recommend getting all your car needs taken care of with Caton's!

They said they conducted a full exam & found 11 things wrong & 27 things right. My vehicle is a 2016 so I asked them to be honest and tell me if they could get it in good running shape. I'm on a fixed income and didn't want to spend a ton if it couldn't be salvaged. They swore they could fix it & get it in great shape. They fixed the brakes & put in a new battery. I wanted them to fix the AC coz it went out. They put $800 worth of freon in the AC. I spent close to $7,000 in toto! The engine light was on when I drove it home! WTF?! They said they had taken the vehicle for a drive after working on it and said it was great. Did they ignore the engine light?! The car had a dead battery for a couple months & sat in my driveway before I took it in. I couldn't open the doors becuz it was all electronic locks. They told me rodents had obviously been in it when I first spoke with them about the test results. Gross. I didn't understand what that meant exactly. I learned when I picked it up. Rat or mouse poop & urine was all over the floors & in the cup holders. I horrified! I hired a detail company to clean out the car when I got home. That cost another $700! I prob would have junked it based on the poop alone. I def would not have agreed to spending $7,000! They should have told me how awful it was inside. But, nope. They wanted their money so they skipped that part. I could barely drive home I was so upset. Poop everywhere & the engine light was on! The freon they put in the AC lasted 1 month! I told them I wanted them to fix the AC -- they said they put colorant in it and wanted to see if there was a leak. I told them there was a leak becuz the freon had leaked out the year prior. I just wanted it fixed. No experiments. My brakes have started squeaking again -- 2 months after being in their shop for more than one week. And, no AC means we are melting from the heat when we drive any where becuz it's summer. I have asked them a couple times to tell me when I could drop off the car becuz they didn't finish the job I paid for. They didn't answer me. Finally I gave up. I didn't want them messing with my car again. I was supremely ripped off. Someone has recommended a different mechanic so I'm going to try them. At least see what they about the shape my car is in. That will be interesting. I'm sure I will be super pissed all over again when they tell me all the things that weren't fixed correctly. United Mechanics…read more When it comes to the people, they're generally friendly. Currently, there are two mechanics who are fluent in English. However, there's some uncertainty about how long they'll stick around, given the owner's stance towards differing opinions. The shop has seen a fair bit of turnover in staff since it started. I was the seventh Service Advisor, and from what I've gathered, about twenty mechanics have come and gone. Unfortunately, the owner isn't particularly skilled at building professional relationships, mechanics, business, and doesn't seem to have much confidence in the American staff. There have been instances of dismissals, like one involving a mechanic who needed to attend to a family matter. Additionally, mechanics have been let go for minor slip-ups, like an oil cap incident, even when they promptly fixed the issue. On the flip side, some mechanics who've caused significant damage to customer vehicles have been kept on because they're more budget-friendly and speak the right language. It's important to note that everyone at United Mechanics seems to be good-hearted. However, when things don't align with the owner's thoughts, personnel changes tend to happen. The owner believes he provides top-notch service and charges $163.89 in labor while providing barely adequate service to all customers. There have been instances where staff have inadvertently caused damage to vehicles. In these cases, Service Advisors are instructed to manage customer expectations by attributing delays to unforeseen circumstances. It's worth noting that there's only one mechanic with advanced diagnostic skills, and he often gets pulled away from his work to fix the mistakes of another mechanic he struggles to communicate with. In addition to these personnel matters, there's a noteworthy issue with the equipment in the shop. There's a noticeable lack of specialized machinery, like transmission flush units, which affects their ability to carry out thorough transmission maintenance. This could potentially impact the overall quality of service. Moreover, there's a crucial shortage in a proper lift system designed for accurate wheel alignments. This shortage not only hampers the shop's ability to carry out precise alignment procedures, but it also raises concerns about the effectiveness of their services in ensuring optimal vehicle performance. Lastly, they're using subpar yellow hard plastic air lines. While they're cost-effective, they carry the risk of accidentally scratching and damaging customer vehicles during service. This falls short of the level of care and attention to detail expected in a professional automotive shop. These equipment limitations, combined with the personnel challenges, highlight potential difficulties in maintaining the highest standards of service quality and precision at United Mechanics. Addressing these issues is crucial for the long-term success and reputation of the establishment. The owner wonders why his business is slow yet consistently does not take the advice he asks for from his staff. I wish him the best of luck in building his business and hopefully he understands how to treat people and do quality work for his customers. However I would not bring my vehicles to this location for work. I tried to battle the inadequate service from the inside. And I provided the best customer service that I could in my short time at this establishment. If you need anything as far as transmission work goes I would use Superior Transmissions, Trans Tech, or Advance Transmissions.
