My engine needed replacing after turning onto a flooded street…read more Keith and Pam helped ease my stress by getting my car in quickly, walking me through available options, and doing a great job with repairs. I've used them for check-ups ever since and they've always been fair, transparent, and thorough. I'd definitely recommend them.

Summary: Very high quality work (hubs and rotors properly…read morecleaned and all caliper pins properly lubed) and excellent customer service (same-day service with updates). Very honest with no upselling and very, very good pricing. Details: I'm an engineer, I know good mechanical work from bad mechanical work. The previous independent shop I've been going to for years has started lying to me about necessary repairs and charging mind-boggling high prices. They charged me $375 for false diagnostics and gave me an estimate for $2000 of unneccesary repairs. They also tried to delay warranty work in order to run out the time remaining on my NAPA warranty. I called Brakes and More who gladly honored the NAPA warranty. Brakes and More was significantly cheaper on labor. All work was done properly and professionally. Brakes and More did no upselling. They were completely honest. They did the work exactly as I requested with no additional costs. Turn-around time was same-day fast. Brakes and More doesn't have a fancy building or customer lounge. They have honest management with integrity and turn out high quality professional work at very, very reasonable pricing. I highly recommend Brakes and More.

As someone training to be a medical professional -- my acuity to pick up people who lie to my face…read morehas improved immensely. For example, when I walk into a patient's room and it reeks of cigarettes -- I used to ask them if they smoke. Now I ask them, how much. And when they deny it and I see a pack of smokes in their pocket -- I ask them "Are you holding on to those for a friend too?" When people lie to me -- I get angry. Especially when it comes to something important -- like YOUR health OR MY car. I HATE being given the run around at a mechanic. I HATE being treated like an idiot. I HATE being told "Oh well if you don't get this 50 cent part (that will cost you $500 with labor) your car can break down and you'll be stranded at ANY minute!" (and it's TOTAL BS and I know it, but I'm just some dumb blond with a soccer mom car that knows nothing about cars). Which is how I get treated at the dealer. In short, I hate the dealer. And they weren't willing to work with me and I'd need to take time off in order to get my car fixed. When I 1st moved here, I found a new primary care doctor right away. But my mechanic? Yeah. Kris the mechanic is the saver of the whole D family in distress. He found US -- with my sister's Caddie stranded on the side of the road (got the part from a local store, came back fixed it, and wanted NO money for helping us out). In short -- Kris is filled with good intentions and amazing talent. For the past decade, he's been fixing our cars. And he's totally OCD about my Buick being ready for my epic drive back to Detroit. He's amazing, is extremely cheap, and irreplaceable -- except... when bad things happen and you don't think the car will make it. "Check Engine" light popped on -- the BANE of EVERYONE'S existence. Did you know the differential for the CHECK ENGINE light is endless? What a USELESS piece of information. It's been more than 20 years -- can't we get a light that pops up on our cars that says "Your car has 2 weeks to live before it dies on the side of the road" ? Give me a prognosis people! Well, I called various GM dealers -- and of course the only work from 8am to 4pm M-F. I work from 5am-6pm M-Sat. Yeah. They were like "sorry! too bad!" -- so I almost cried when a friend said he knew this guy -- Mike. Mike Stetser. He took care of EVERYONE in his family. He was cheaper than the dealer and just as good. Mike works 6:30-4:30pm M-F -- which isn't much better. But I told him over the phone I just needed him to plug it in and check to see WHY my check engine light is on. (I swear I wish I had one of those machines...). He agreed to plug 'er in and see what's up -- and then we would go from there. HOW ACCOMMODATING! How NICE. I was able to sneak away for a few hours -- I called Mike, told him I was a comin' and he plugged it in, and diagnosed it. Straight up, no BS, he said the diagnosis was O2 intake thingie and it'd cost about $250 to replace. I told him I think my rotor was warped on my driver's side only -- and he told me straight up, he'd have to replace BOTH rotors and brake pads. $250. I said OK. I said I needed a tranny flush and my tires rotated. He said OK. He did NOT treat me like an idiot. He did NOT try to sell me other stupid shit like windshield wipers and oil changes and air filters. And gave me a rough estimate that was about $1k cheaper than it'd cost me taking it to a dealer. I called up Kris (MY mechanic in Chicago) told him the symptoms and the diagnosis and the cost of treatment -- he said he could do it for cheaper (of course) but since I needed it to be dealt with NOW that he thought the plan was reasonable, and the cost was reasonable. It was about $200 more than Kris, but hey -- dire circumstances! The best part of Mike? He's very trusting. I'm not trusting, I can't help it. I have people lie to my face every day. As quoted by Dr. House "People lie." And it's my CAR we are talking about. This thing needs to get me to work every day or else I FAIL. And FAILING is EXPENSIVE. Since I couldn't do normal business hours, he said "no problem." He was willing to work WITH me (don't you love it when that happens??). Said to drop off, put keys in the slot, and he'd call me. When I pick up after he's off work -- he'll put the keys in (undisclosed location) and I could drop a check off in his mailbox. Why aren't there more people like this in the world?

Mike is straight up! No BS and does what he says...how refreshing…read more Brad H
