I recently finished about three years' worth of lessons with Paul, and it has been life-changing. Originally, I came to GolfTec because I really wanted to be able to see/replay my swing when I practice. Over the years I tried taking a few lessons here and there with different instructors with little to no success. Eventually my poor form combined with swinging as hard as I could (and also lifting weights in the gym) resulted in injuries to my elbow, shoulder, and back. What I really wanted to do was create an efficient, smooth swing that I can use for the rest of my life, as I had always imagined golfing in retirement. When I came for my evaluation, Eddie had me try a few things, and then he was brutally honest with me and said he probably shouldn't be my instructor (I was way too "armsy" which was not a good match for how he taught), so he referred me to Paul. It stung a little to hear that, but it turned out to be for the best. I told Paul that I was committed and would do whatever he said. Over the next few years he completely rebuilt my swing from the ground up. I think I spent most of my first year just working on my backswing. It was incredibly frustrating for me, but I stuck to it and you can see in the pictures how it has paid off. To avoid injuries, I probably swing about half as hard as I used to, but the ball still goes just as far, if not farther (plus straighter). GolfTec isn't cheap though, and I'll be the first to admit I would just keep taking lessons forever if I could afford it. This is definitely something I could not have afforded when I was much younger. But if this is something you can afford and nothing else has worked for you, I encourage you to try this. Another thing that has helped is I was able to pause my program once per package ("X number of lessons in Y weeks") whenever I was too injured to continue. As for any reports of rude instructors or poor customer service from coaches, I think I know who they were talking about. There was one coach there who wasn't very friendly whenever I interacted with him, and he seems more interested in practicing his own swing than helping customers. He's been gone for a few months though and was recently replaced by someone else. I've always found the other coaches to be super nice. Eddie's gone now. Ryan is the manager, I believe, and he's incredibly friendly and helpful. Just keep in mind that they can get really busy at times. If you walk in and need help and they're all busy teaching, just make sure they can see you standing there. They'll get to you before too long, but they're priority does need to be teaching a student that is paying for their time. Oh, and Paul has always been super responsive via email. Came here with a very simple brief: help me hit my driver. I got a very logical speech about needing to hit the irons right, first. We didn't get to the driver until the last couple lessons and by then it was too late, I'm no better at it now. I'd say these guys try and string it out so you buy more lessons. I actually had a golftec instructor up in studio city closer to my home and that guy was a disaster; waste of money , I was getting worse...but at the same time my friend was also getting lessons at this golftec in South Bay with Geoff and so he recommended Geoff, and Geoff has been awesome. Geoff fixed and reconstructed my golf swing; and been a game changer - and then through a Fitting, I also upgraded my driver with his help - and now I'm enjoying golf again. I heard nothing but great things about this place and was referred by a friend to check this place out when I'm ready to buy my next set of clubs, The time has come for me to purchase new clubs and after hearing nothing but great things, I'm ecstatic about setting up a club fitting. I called Golf Tec to inquire about a club fitting for me and a friend, and after several attempts I couldn't reach anyone. Perfectly understandable, maybe the staff is busy giving a lesson or performing a club fitting. So, I decided to leave a message asking for someone to call me back. One day goes by, two days go by, three days go by and guess what? That's right, no one ever returned my call. I mean, I don't expect VIP treatment, but a call back would of been nice. I tried the five lesson package and of course my swing needed work, but what I received was a relentless and complete change of my swing which, at my age, ain't happening. I did my best to argue with my instructor, but to no avail as he's the alleged expert. I'm done with constantly having my swing compared, side-by-side and in very slow motion on the video monitor, to Corey Pavin's. Humbling, sure, but now that I reflect, kinda mean. Since I've signed up with Golftec, Geoff has flattened out my swing, corrected my grip, more shoulder turn, etc. With his expertise, my last couple of rounds have me making some, for me, incredible shots. I have been involved in golf for a very long time and have never ran across someone who is "Certified personal coach and apparently does not know anything about etiquette or he chooses not to practice it. He appears to feel he is above everyone and when I mention he needs to have better etiquette he was less than receptive and needed to be more careful about his language in mixed company. read more

Terrible experience. Instructor doing the "swing assessment" started getting angry and frustrated when I asked questions on swing techniques. He pointed out two to three things I was doing wrong, then started talking about golf philosophy of "why would you want to hit a straight shot?" You should hit drawls, and that tour players don't hit straight shots. He'd have the most awkward silence just looking at you almost like waiting for you to respond to him saying "wow!! You are so right about golf philosophy, you are amazing!!" But does absolutely nothing to teach or instruct how to achieve it. He literally got mad after I asked him how to do certain movements and said "do you think I'm scamming you?!" Angry Korean instructor with no patience and self ballooned ego. Then continued trying to sell you packages of 10 or 15 lessons to "teach" you what you "apparently so stupidly don't know". Absolutely the worst place. Also instructors who work there don't care if your at the front desk, they keep talking amongst themselves while you sit there waiting, not knowing if you need to check in? Go into a waiting bay? Super unprofessional. Don't waste your money going for fittings or lessons. read more

No one is ever available during business hours. Can't reach anyone on the phone and even when I show up at the hours posted, the doors are locked and lights are off. My husband even called the headquarters and their excuse was "what do you want me to say, I've never been to California". Incredibly unprofessional. Do not recommend this location. read more

I've been extremely happy with my progress at Golftec Torrance with Ryan. He has been invaluable in helping me understand my swing and helping me through his process to help me improve. **Not to be confused with Golfsmith (store) in El Segundo, or the GolfTec location there. This facility is training and lessons only as is not co-located in a retail location** I have transferred over to GolfTec SB because my instructor (Matt Newby) moved locations, and even though the El Segundo training location is nice it only has 2 video bays, and the South Bay training center has at least 4...so, with that being said, here's my review of the South Bay location. - All the employees are nice, and regardless if you are there for your lesson with a specific coach or just to have a 30 min practice, people are helpful. - It is a training only center in a small business building, so there's pretty good available parking. - Easy to find off Hawthorne Blvd. (though if you're coming from anywhere north on Hawthorne you must make a U-turn at the next light to access the building. - The equipment at this GolfTec is up to date and amazing. (like all locations I've seen). Now regarding GolfTec in general (to reiterate): I cannot say enough about Golf Tec, the coaches, and the mission of this business. They want to help me enjoy golf, make me better at the game, and to completely (with technology and good coaching) help me to understand the mechanics of golf in relation to MY swing, MY body, and MY intended skill level. I bought the full year of lessons and practices, so far it has worked wonders. Matt Newby is my coach and he's a great guy, smart instructor, and super personable. He is passionate about golf, and he really understands me as a person (my hang ups on the course, my competitive nature, and my athletic physiology). Matt has been paramount in this improvement process and I cannot say enough about him and his teachings. The lessons are fun, and informative. I get instant (and constant) video feedback on the hi-tech monitors that record everything from my body positioning, swing speed, club orientation to the ball, etc...and we get HD video feedback saved to my own personal Golf Tec on-line lesson bank. I can re watch lessons at any time, and go over my sessions and homework on my iphone app or my PC. I can even schedule my own practices at any location, or communicate with my coach when needed. My coach is Ryan and I have to say that this experience has definitely changed the game for me for the better. Ryan doesn't confuse me with 100's of things to focus on at once but instead we focus on just a few simple things until I get it down and then we address other issues. His direction is so easy to follow and understand and my game has improved a lot in a very short period of time. I love this place!! I have been playing golf since I was 10, I'm 49. I have experience a lot of coaching, my coach Ryan is extremely knowledgeable, he has definitely made me a much better player!! I highly recommend the practice after the lesson. I definitely stay after the lesson and work on what Ryan has instructed. I've had lessons on a range, GOLFTEC is so much better for improvement. The app, booking your lessons and practice so easy. They also do club fitting, the worst thing you can do is buy of the rack. Ryan is an amazing instructor I highly recommend if your serious about game improvement. They do everything putting, short game, course management. If it's golf related they cover it. read more

I love Golftec! Have been a student going on ~4 years now. Initially was with Chris who moved to location too far for me to follow him too. Now I am with Ryan and he is an amazing coach. Great club buying experience. I was fitted for custom clubs for the same/slightly less price than any other seller of current model year clubs! First set of custom clubs. The employee, Jae, who was awesome, let me try out a lot of different club head/shaft (lol) combinations. Was able to accurately decide I needed 2-degree upright shaft, 1/2 inch longer, and a stiff shaft that had a bit more flex than most stiff shafts (these jokes write themselves). The virtual hitting bays were great to get accurate feedback. I HIGHLY recommend coming here when you finally decide to get some custom clubs. Totally worth it. read more

Hey Yelpers!!! First of all there are so many teaching pro and so many teachers are active or active wannabe now a days Here is my story. I had a very known teaching pro as teaching more than 15 years so far and even pga pros are still getting taught by him. But taking lessons more than 4 month my swings were never ever got improved. He was the great teacher but has no details to analyze and suit it to me tho. I was struggling a lot for another 4 month by myself and only resources were YouTube and teacher wannabes in driving range!!!! Last week I just paid visit in GOLFTEC in Torrance and met Eddie!!!! In one hour of my swing evaluation , he went thru everything about my swings And fixed it in a snap. No slice no topping and no hitting the ground.... Eddie has various experience in teaching and very perceptive in analysis of the swings. I'm still taking my lesson but every second is worth it with Eddie!!! Thank you very much Eddie. I had a bad customer service experience with this location. My advice is do not purchase golf clubs from Golftec. Long story short, once I paid they stopped communicating with me, wouldn't return my calls, and I couldn't get a straight answer on when my clubs would arrive...I was given 3 different ETAs over the past month for clubs that I apparently preordered that had a set release date (they never told me these clubs weren't out yet until weeks after I had ordered). You cannot reach them on the phone and they do not return calls. I had to show up in person just to get a status update a week after I was told they would arrive. When they finally came in several weeks after I was told they'd arrive, I miraculously received a call to let me know. When I went in to collect them at the time I said I would be there, they kept me waiting for 30+ min at reception before anyone even came to help me. Then I was given attitude and told there was no reason for me to be upset...bad customer service all the way through the process. It was clear that the moment that they collected my money, I stopped being a priority. If I hadn't paid up front, I would have cancelled my order so I could take my business elsewhere. I do need lessons and plan to buy more clubs, but there is no way I will ever step foot in a Golftec again after this experience. I can't speak to the quality of their lessons, but my experience was that I was treated very poorly and disregarded after I spent objectively a lot of money with them. My only wish is that I would have gone literally anywhere else to buy my clubs. They simply are not set up to be a retailer, plain and simple. If they are going to treat customers this way, they should only focus solely on lessons. If they are going to sell clubs, they could do well to hire a receptionist to greet customers, answer the phone and make sure this doesn't happen again. read more

The facility appears unassuming, but the inside contains very awesome golf tech gadgets. My husband spent the afternoon fitting for new clubs and really enjoyed it. They are set up for golf lessons, fittings and the works. The golf pros are knowledgable and do not pressure you to buy things you do not need, or at least the one who helped us. They have direct contacts with manufacturers; therefore, the turn around time is quite fast. HI: very high tech LO: (understandably) pricey, but it's golf so what do you expect... read more

Been working with the staff here for about a year. Very good instruction! Video of every swing you take from two different angles allows you to see your mistakes and learn from them. Ability to "draw" on your swing to see if you are coming too far inside, not getting on to left side are huge for being able to understand what needs fixed. Golftec has a series of packages to get you started or for a full year. But you MUST practice for the lessons to have any impact. If you want to improve you will need to allocate time for lessons and practice - if you can do that, this place is for you! read more

I first signed up with this GolfTEC facility back in 2014 and have been renewing every year since. In fact, I just renewed my lesson package for the upcoming year. It's a smallish facility - 4 hitting bays, but all equipped with body sensors, video cameras, and launch monitors. I can't recommend this facility and its instructors/coaches enough - I've been with my personal GolfTEC coach Paul (a PGA pro) for 3 years now and over that time my golf swing has evolved from an atrocious overswinging mess to a decent, respectable looking, and most important of all - a repeatable, consistent swing. GolfTEC's teaching method relies heavily on video and emphasis on biomechanics, which means it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Luckily I seem to take this kind of instruction very well and it has worked wonders for me. GolfTEC won't give you pricing information about their lesson packages up front, they'll do an initial assessment of your swing and then work with you to select the right package based on the amount of time you're willing to commit to lessons and practice. Be warned, lesson packages aren't cheap. However, most of the packages not only include a set number of lessons that you can schedule on your own time over 6 months or a year, but also include a club fitting session, playing lessons on a course, and unlimited practice time with their video cameras and launch monitors (you still have to schedule these, though). Also, lessons are video and audio recorded and put up on GolfTEC's player website for you to review at any time, which is very helpful. This teaching method definitely isn't for everyone, and there ARE less expensive alternatives. But if you come to GolfTEC with an open mind and a willingness to absorb what they teach you, and PRACTICE, your golf game will improve significantly. read more

Hi I'm Robert Frost and I have been playing Golf for a little over 2 years now and my game was crap scores over a hundred, so a friend suggested I try GolfTec for a lesson. So I booked an appointment for a golf swing evolution and my instructor was Eddie Shin. After an hour looking at my swing I needed help! My swing was over the top and out side to inside which caused my swing to slice, hit it fat or thin and overall a bad swing. So Eddie and I got to work with there 4 bays and state or the art equipment I was able to see my swing in real time. So after 16 weeks with my coach Eddie we have me swinging on plane and coming from the inside and a much improved Golf Swing. Shane Gomes is masterful with the golf swing. His coaching is superb and spot-on. I have been playing golf for decades and wish I had hired Shane years ago. He has improved both my swing and my understanding of the fundamentals so that I can take the cues to the range and the course. His lessons are fun and filled with analysis and great information. Chris Paredes is great!! He's definitely the most flexible and is willing to work with your natural tendencies. I had 2 other instructors at this location and while they were ok, they weren't willing to compromise on their system of teaching. Chris is very knowledgeable about the swing fundamentals and will adapt his teaching to your natural golf swing and its limitations, physical or otherwise. He's also a very good player so his end goal is to optimize your swing to shoot the best scores on the golf course. All too often, golf instructors, and especially at Golftec, get too obsessed with making the right moves on camera that you can't repeat on the golf course. Chris, on the other hand, offers a perfect blend of swing theory and practical instruction to optimize your golf game ON the golf course, and not just in front of the Golftec cameras. Chris gets 5 stars but Golftec as a whole gets 4 stars due to issues stated above. Still would recommend Golftec highly (especially this Torrance location--very well managed and good facilities) for players who are serious about getting better. read more

Found Golftec via google looking for lessons with video here in the southbay. Very informative with lots of tech involved. I am a visual learner and their system has helped my game. It's nice to have before and after swings on video which you can review anytime from a computer or mobile device through their website. Your lessons, videos, and drills are all saved on your account in their website. Having slow motion swings from side and rear view really let you see what you what you are doing both right and wrong. They have the ability to draw lines over the video and show you swing plane, body position, and fundamentals of a good swing. The only thing they are missing is the video screen you hit into which shows the path of your ball however their system will show you carry, total distance, swing speed, openness or closeness of club head etc so you have a good idea if you hit it right, left, or on center. If you are looking for a swing coach to improve your golf game, this is a great place to get started. Huge bonus is seeing your swing side by side with a tour player that has a similar swing to yours. Gives you something to work towards. I have been working with Mike Allred and he is very knowledgeable about the fundamentals of a good golf swing. I am a 10 handicap and want to cut that in half. I now have some motivation to go practice instead of just playing a round once or twice a month. read more
