Life is a beach at this place as you can finally get a taste for beach sports in Brighton without breaking your feet on the pebbles. I came down here with 20 mates and hired out the whole thing for an hour and a half and we had an absolutely cracking time playing beach football. When its hot this place will be totally booked so you will need to plan in advance to stand any chance of getting a spot. For volleyball and football there are leagues that run throughout the whole year so you can make a weekly social by getting a team together. You HAVE to try this place out as it is great fun and will be an experience.

Whilst most sports centres are gloomy places with low ceilings and the lingering smell of sweat, Yellowave is a wonderful, open air affair with purpose built courts and floors made of sand. Activities wise, you can choose from volleyball, beach soccer, beach rugby, beachminton - yup, that's their phrase from badminton on the beach! - and Brazilian sport, footvolley. The non-competitive can also sign up for bouldering and frisbee. Courts are hired out for around £18-£20 per hour for groups or you can take part in classes for beginners. Parents should note, there's special classes for children aged 6 and upwards at weekends

Pitch Invasion was started only a couple of years ago, basically to formalise the 5-aside format, which in the past had been hindered so badly by poor organisation, referees and attendance, and by all accounts it has done that incredibly well. Each team must pay £28, which although seems hefty, goes towards the referees, the hire of the pitches, the company and the match co-ordinators, which in fairness, when all's considered isn't too bad. "It's a game of two halves" and "it's six of one and half a dozen of the other" etc.. etc..Of course this doesn't make any sense, but if a football pundit was reviewing Pitch Invasion, this is no doubt the response he would begrudgingly give to the price. I would have to agree. Anyway there are games at Brighton campus 3G pitches, and up Walpole road, in between Brighton college and The Royal Sussex hospital in Kemptown, with many leagues and days to play in and on. The website is brilliant, and really makes playing in the leagues that bit more fun, as you can view your teams fixtures, scorers, league position as well as other fun and quite pointless stuff. If you play footy and you want to get involved as soon as possible, get 4 or more of your mates together, get on the website and register your team for the next season, which comes around every 7 weeks or so. I play on thursdays myself, and wouldn't miss it for the world now, as going running isn't half as fun as trying to do Zidane style turns against people (not chairs in your living room), and playing alongside your mates.

Ahh. Oh well. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I didn't ever get to watch Brighton play at this stadium, and I haven't used the gym that is here. However since I'm obsessed with everywhere that British footy clubs play, I've been on these grounds a couple of times. Hard to believe that Brighton actually played here. In 2011 I toured the facilities and realized that it must have been really tough for the fans to deal with playing here. However it was worth the wait because their new stadium is one of the best in the country. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This is a really poor stadium, especially for a club as big as Brighton. It's good that the Albion only played there for 12 years, and my word, their new stadium could not be much more spectacular, could it? Withdean was built in 1936 and can only hold 8k people. 12 years in this stadium was actually probably hell for the Brighton fans but my goodness was it worth it when you see the Amex, amirite? And no, I wasn't a huge fan of John Kerry. I'd rather have gone withdean.

As well as the stadium there are tennis and squash courts, a gym and exercise classrooms. I cycled up there the other day to partake in the Body Conditioning class, and left limping and aching. Being a member of the Kinetika gyms means I can visit this one as well as the nearer Prince Regents, alongside the others in the Brighton and Hove area. The gym is much better than the Prince Regents one, if a bit dark, it's bigger, got more equipment, and less smelly and sweaty, which is always a good thing. The fact that it's a 2 mile bike ride to get to means that by the end of my class/gym session I really feel like I've worked out.

I had a gym trial and wanted to look swish, so I adorned myself with the Nike Swoosh - my preferred medal of sporting honour (who needs an Olympic Medal?!) One of the best places to buy sports gear is the aptly named Sports Direct. It seems to constantly be offer "further reductions", but don't let the cheap exterior put you off. And don't let the masses of sports crap put you off either. And definitely don't be put off by the less-than helpful staff, because these are just formalities. When you are searching for practical items, you have to think practically. Sports Direct is ugly, but has some great finds. I got some pretty sweet Nike Dri-fit shorts for around £10. That's a good price, especially since they are specifically designed for running and have a nice little pocket in the waistband for your iPod. I could've gone to a specialist sports store and bought the same shorts for a much higher price. I would have probably been made to feel more valued as a customer and spent less than 20 minutes trying to find the bloody things, but at the end of the day I made a saving. And as the government keep yammering on at us: money matters!

It is located in Falmer, East Sussex around 10-15 minutes to Brighton on the train, one thing I like is that the club actually fund the travel to the stadium via public transport in the area, which makes it easy and cheap to get to the game, which I've never seen the likes of before. The village of Falmer doesn't really have much, but if you head back into Brighton (for free) after the game, its a lovely seaside city with plenty of bars, restaurants and hotels and pleasantly surprised me along with the stadium. I made the long journey for the last game of the season to watch my Manchester City play here against Brighton. A 4-1 win here saw my team retain the Premier League trophy, in a day that will live with me for the rest of my life at this stadium which will forever hold a place in my heart and memory, for we lifted the trophy here. The stadium from the outside is much larger than one would expect from a 30,000 stadium, with staircases and ramps everywhere (slightly confusing to get to seats), it in times feels like a blue Wembley on the south coast with the mini arches. The stadium staff seemed really friendly and helpful, they also put on a great show for City as we basically took over to lift the trophy, playing typical songs like She's Electric (Ederson), Blue Moon and Glad All Over (Guardiola). The concourse area seemed a little basic and far from as modern as the rest of the stadium. I liked the small executive seating over the away fans, in a good location behind the goal with an average vew - That meant I had legends Paul Dickov and Fernandinho sat right above me! The stadium being quite close to the player enterance means it is pretty easy to meet the players or legends after the game, I was lucky enough to meet Paul Dickov, and I know of someone who also met Yaya Toure - another thing about the ground I really like. They also had two large screens behind each goal, and electronic LED advertising boards which also can be used to broadcast messages, my favourite being 'Congratulations 2018/19 Champions' for my team. A great stadium with caring staff, which makes it feel like a family club rather than an elite Premier League stadium at times, cool stadium and great away day. Despite the long journey from Manchester (3 trains), it is one of the easiest and cheapest places to get to after getting in the Brighton and Hove area 4*

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've been lucky enough to be inside the AMEX and I don't mean the border at Tijuana. It's an incredible place. One of the best new stadiums in the country, and it affirms the ambitions of Brighton to be a top PL club, despite the fact that they have yet to make it to the Prem. Football must be making a lot of money because there are all sorts of new palaces of stadiums opening up and this is one of the crown jewels. You will not see a more modern or shiny new facility with more intense fans and a better atmosphere anywhere out side the Prem. It's the very definition of a 5-star facility and I love coming here. I will return in 2016 for sure. I saw Brighton draw here, so I'm hoping that next time I get to see them win. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This incredible stadium opened in 2011, and cost nearly 100 mil to build. It's right on the A27, and like Bolton, is easily one of England's prettiest and best stadiums. It's absolutely fabulous, and would be an excellent candidate to host matches if England ever gets the World Cup. It may be the best stadium in the second tier, although Bolton and others will run it close. It would be cool if it were closer to the sea, but it's still absolutely beautiful and perfect. It's not even too expensive to buy stuff here, either. Now I have to go. I'm dating Amex ican girl and she's due to be waking up soon.
