Life is a beach at this place as you can finally get a taste for beach sports in Brighton without breaking your feet on the pebbles. I came down here with 20 mates and hired out the whole thing for an hour and a half and we had an absolutely cracking time playing beach football. When its hot this place will be totally booked so you will need to plan in advance to stand any chance of getting a spot. For volleyball and football there are leagues that run throughout the whole year so you can make a weekly social by getting a team together. You HAVE to try this place out as it is great fun and will be an experience.

Whilst most sports centres are gloomy places with low ceilings and the lingering smell of sweat, Yellowave is a wonderful, open air affair with purpose built courts and floors made of sand. Activities wise, you can choose from volleyball, beach soccer, beach rugby, beachminton - yup, that's their phrase from badminton on the beach! - and Brazilian sport, footvolley. The non-competitive can also sign up for bouldering and frisbee. Courts are hired out for around £18-£20 per hour for groups or you can take part in classes for beginners. Parents should note, there's special classes for children aged 6 and upwards at weekends

I'd much rather have a Gold Stone than a Cold Stone, which I think is the worst ice cream chain in history. And a Mold Stone is just gross. A Rolled Stone could start a rockslide or landslide or avalanche. And a Trolled Stone is an angry stone who has been infuriated by people online. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I watched Oxford get beaten by Brighton at the Goldstone when I was a kid, and while the Brighton fans, and atmosphere, and experience and city in general were wonderful, I didn't really love this stadium. It was a bit open and run-down, and their new place is an amazing palace. I think the year I came to see a game here was 1994, a few months after the USA World Cup. Wow, has it really been that long. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This stadium is the spiritual home of Brighton, and will be for a few more years until they make a lot more memories in the AMEX. The AMEX is 10 times the stadium this ever was, in fact 100 times. This was one of the worst stadiums, like, ever. Okay not at all, it was pretty good, but by comparison, it was nothing special. It served Albion from 1901 until 1997, and Wimbledon FC played their European matches here at one point. It's been turned into a retail park now. Thanks for the memories, even though they weren't so great. The Amex tastes like you, but sweeter.

Ahh. Oh well. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I didn't ever get to watch Brighton play at this stadium, and I haven't used the gym that is here. However since I'm obsessed with everywhere that British footy clubs play, I've been on these grounds a couple of times. Hard to believe that Brighton actually played here. In 2011 I toured the facilities and realized that it must have been really tough for the fans to deal with playing here. However it was worth the wait because their new stadium is one of the best in the country. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This is a really poor stadium, especially for a club as big as Brighton. It's good that the Albion only played there for 12 years, and my word, their new stadium could not be much more spectacular, could it? Withdean was built in 1936 and can only hold 8k people. 12 years in this stadium was actually probably hell for the Brighton fans but my goodness was it worth it when you see the Amex, amirite? And no, I wasn't a huge fan of John Kerry. I'd rather have gone withdean.

As well as the stadium there are tennis and squash courts, a gym and exercise classrooms. I cycled up there the other day to partake in the Body Conditioning class, and left limping and aching. Being a member of the Kinetika gyms means I can visit this one as well as the nearer Prince Regents, alongside the others in the Brighton and Hove area. The gym is much better than the Prince Regents one, if a bit dark, it's bigger, got more equipment, and less smelly and sweaty, which is always a good thing. The fact that it's a 2 mile bike ride to get to means that by the end of my class/gym session I really feel like I've worked out.

It's become common practice for me every time I come here to be stuck behind a jam of people on the trainer isle, literally unable to get out, and it can get a bit claustrophobic. But, presentation and space aside, there really is a massive range and nearly always a sale so you can sort yourself out a whole new gym kit for less than £20. I had a gym trial and wanted to look swish, so I adorned myself with the Nike Swoosh - my preferred medal of sporting honour (who needs an Olympic Medal?!) One of the best places to buy sports gear is the aptly named Sports Direct. It seems to constantly be offer "further reductions", but don't let the cheap exterior put you off. And don't let the masses of sports crap put you off either. And definitely don't be put off by the less-than helpful staff, because these are just formalities. When you are searching for practical items, you have to think practically. Sports Direct is ugly, but has some great finds. I got some pretty sweet Nike Dri-fit shorts for around £10. That's a good price, especially since they are specifically designed for running and have a nice little pocket in the waistband for your iPod. I could've gone to a specialist sports store and bought the same shorts for a much higher price. I would have probably been made to feel more valued as a customer and spent less than 20 minutes trying to find the bloody things, but at the end of the day I made a saving. And as the government keep yammering on at us: money matters!
