There was about 80 people splashing around in their bikinis and costumes whilst behind them a gigantic screen played film footage all centred around swimming and swimming pools. There were ushers selling popcorn and people queing to sit down and watch from the raised spectator seats. It was a quietly magical experience that definitely encouraged me to go back to Prince Regent and actually swim there. As well as having a proper pool with different swimming lanes for professionals and sports fanatics, there's a shallow pool for kids and beginners and a warm teaching pool for toddlers. There's also a sauna, steam room and gym apparently - all at extra cost on a daily or weekly basis. Will post photos of the Cine City / White Night event in a few hours for swimming movie fans!

Plus it's free after 6. Bonus! This pool itself is fairly average - it's good if it's not busy and it has 2 other seperate pools for swimming lessons and aqua aerobics (which by the way I must say looks rather fun!) The gym part of the complex is situated right above the pool so you can look up at those on the treadmills - just as they can look down at you which I guess it adds a little amusement! The changing rooms are OK, there is a fair selection of sizes including family rooms (I know I shouldn't use these but it's so much nicer to have space!). The thing is it does smell a little, as do the toilets... If you live in Brighton and enjoy swimming, there's no reason not to go here, it's just not the cleanest of complexes.

We were in the studio and it is a good room with mirrored walls and a sprung floor. I've also competed in a number of TKD tournaments in the main sports hall. The center offers the expected range of classes from keep-fit to more team based activities. The amenities are good with clean changing areas. There is also a full gym for exercise heads and a decent looking swimming pool. The staff are fairly helpful and identified by branded tee shirts. There is also a canteen that serves a basic range of foods including jacket potatoes and chips, beans and other fried snacks. Being a place of fitness, I find this a little bizarre, but I suppose they serve what the public want. Go figure! There are also glass backed squash courts and you can hire courts for badminton or basketball. All in all a pretty decent sports center for the town, but you will need a car or a bus ride to get there as it is located on the outskirts of Burgess Hill.

However, my favourite is the blue as it feels the fastest of the 3. There are actually 3 pools as one is mainly for birthday parties etc. and is seperated from the other 2, so this place is good for kids birthday parties. I myself have had a birthday party and had a cracking time. Although, my mate lost his locker key and all his clothes got stolen, very funny! I to hope that they improve it slightly in the refurb but they shouldn't mess with it too much. I like having diving boards as they are always a good way to break up swim sessions.

The changing rooms and shower area have all been renewed and the centre as a whole has a nice quiet and relaxed feel to it. There are also two large sports halls, a gym to grow those muscles and a selection of exercise studios for classes. It is a shame there was not a huge float or wave machine for children, but it has some great space to have some splashing fun and swim some lengths. I would recommend the King Alfred Leisure Centre as a place to take the kids on a cheap day out. I was quiet lucky to get access for free on the day as they were giving out free day passes (keep your eyes peeled).

Ahh. Oh well. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I didn't ever get to watch Brighton play at this stadium, and I haven't used the gym that is here. However since I'm obsessed with everywhere that British footy clubs play, I've been on these grounds a couple of times. Hard to believe that Brighton actually played here. In 2011 I toured the facilities and realized that it must have been really tough for the fans to deal with playing here. However it was worth the wait because their new stadium is one of the best in the country. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** This is a really poor stadium, especially for a club as big as Brighton. It's good that the Albion only played there for 12 years, and my word, their new stadium could not be much more spectacular, could it? Withdean was built in 1936 and can only hold 8k people. 12 years in this stadium was actually probably hell for the Brighton fans but my goodness was it worth it when you see the Amex, amirite? And no, I wasn't a huge fan of John Kerry. I'd rather have gone withdean.

As well as the stadium there are tennis and squash courts, a gym and exercise classrooms. I cycled up there the other day to partake in the Body Conditioning class, and left limping and aching. Being a member of the Kinetika gyms means I can visit this one as well as the nearer Prince Regents, alongside the others in the Brighton and Hove area. The gym is much better than the Prince Regents one, if a bit dark, it's bigger, got more equipment, and less smelly and sweaty, which is always a good thing. The fact that it's a 2 mile bike ride to get to means that by the end of my class/gym session I really feel like I've worked out.
