Wonderful, from the front entrance to the photos on the walls made for an interesting evening. Patrons and myself self left looking at the memorabilia as we stepped through the building.

We had a reservation here during the Christkindlmarkt for dinner. We were seated in a cute room in the back that was quiet and had a nice atmosphere. The food arrived quickly in spite of the fact that they were very busy. My husband and I shared the duck (Ente) and the Zander filet. Both were good but I thought the duck was more flavorful. The Blaukraut and Klöße that were included were very good. They do have an English menu though it isn't exactly the same as the German menu. For example, the German menu had either 1/4 or 1/2 duck but the English menu only had the 1/2 duck.

stopped here because we wanted to try some actual German food . we succeeded in getting that . interesting when you get there they put a basket or two of big pretzels on the table and if you take one and then they charge you a 1.10 euro each. The food was pretty good, you know German food isn't the best food to begin with and I feel like they did a pretty good job of preparing. The interior is all wood and is very nice. Outside of the building is also quite nice, everything was clean it was very typical of a European German restaurant. We had schnitzel and it was pretty good, the pork knuckle not so much because it was boiled and not baked or fried so it was very Gelatinous. The biggest problem with this place is the service, it bordered on surly. Yeah I understand that Germans are often surly, but if you don't like your job get a different one. I don't think I saw anybody smiling when they were working. I guess that also has to be a consequence of working for a regular wage and not really working for tips. But everybody knows Americans leave good tips so you would think they would put on the good behavior for us, but actually I feel like we got the bad behavior because we are Americans. There were several tables of locals who clearly come there regularly and were treated very well and receive their food much faster and received services much faster than we did. I think it was 15 minutes before we got our first round of drinks. I know they don't care because we were tourists and we won't be back anyway but don't you know, there's this thing called Yelp. So if you're in traditional German dinner in a very pretty physical location this is a good choice. It's right in the historic district inside the walled city and close to many things that are nice to visit. Just don't expect to be on over and you will be fine. This place is great! I had the pork shoulder, which was awesome. The place has been around for a long time. If you are in the area, this is one place you gotta try out. And try the pork shoulder... It's down the street from the Nuremberg Castle, which is very cool. 4 stars!

First a disclaimer, I never made it inside the restaurant but stayed out on the patio because the…read moreweather was simply fabulous that night. Looked like everyone had the same idea. The patio overlooks the Tiergaertner Tor Platz and it was crowded like a beehive tonight. The huge plaza tree was lit up and thousands of folks enjoying their night on the patios of the surrounding restaurants, on the plaza benches, or even seated on the ground. Great ambiance all together. The staff was very attentive and we didn't seem to have an assigned server as any of them passing by checked to see if we needed anything. The menu here changes often, but also has a few staples and some innovative takes on our Franconian dishes. So we discovered Pretzel pizza... I was suspicious at first, reading the list of ingredients, but threw caution in the wind and went for the Franconian version (my friend opted for the Vegetarian). It really did sound horrible... laugen dough (which is what pretzels are made of), Schmarrn (related to sourcream, or cream cheese, but not quite the same), local brats, kraut, cheese and tomatoes. I was prepared for a nightmare... but it ended up being delicious. The pizzas were served with a mini salad topping the middle of it. The dough was nice and thin and had that typical nice chewy crust all around. The ingredients worked surprisingly well together, but could have done without the tomatoes. Visually they were a nice pop of colors, but tastewise they had no business on the Franconian Pretzel pizza. I didn't try the vegetarian version, but my friend, who is a tiny person, ate the entire thing, whereas I could only finish half of mine. So I would say she enjoyed it. I had the pana cotta with blueberry compote and was delighted to see the compote made from the small blueberries I grew up with instead of these huge overbred tasteless blueberries so common nowadays. Kudos to this place. Check it out if you are ever in the area.
