    Pork shoulders with crunchy skin
    Ben L.

As this was our last night in Nuremberg, we decided we had to eat some pork shoulders or knuckles. There were already a number of reviews on this, and they were spot on. I had the pork shoulders with roasted skin while my wife had bratwurst variation. The pork was tender and broke easily. The skin was crunchy and divine! The sauce was light, not the heavy dark sauces that comes with grilled meats. It mixed well with the sauerkraut. There were two rice balls with my dish. The bratwurst variation had 4 smallish sausages, and 2 medium bratwurst. This was just right portions for my wife. The prices were reasonable. I had their pale pilsner, wife had still water. With tips, out bill came up to Euro 30. There was outside seating for the smokers. Fortunately, there were no smokers in our vicinity. Traffic was quite light on a Monday early evening, so we enjoyed seating outside.

We had a nice dinner here. The food was good (portions are very large...the Karp is a whole fish and it's huge) and the service was pleasant. We had the Gansebrust (goose breast), the cordon blue schinken and käse, and the bratwurstgulasch. None of us could finish our meals because they were so large. Our three meals with 3 glasses of wine came to 42 EUR.

Fantastic food and prices. Food came out promptly and pipping hot. Prices are one third less than Berlin and the quality was better than most. Sat outside on a beautiful day. Highly recommended.

Great authentic German food. Close to castle and Nuremberg Christmas market. Thankfully,we had a table next to us deciphering the menu for us as our waiter completely sucked, both in services, English and personal attitude. Food was delicious and on their recommendation. 6 adults and 1 child. Went on a Sunday around mid afternoon w/e after Christmas. Quite busy and the bathrooms were spotless. Not even sure what was ordered but 1 was a venison goulash, 2 corden bleu, 1 pork dish and mine was a franken something or other, hutt'n speciality.. beers were great!

This is the best german restaurant in Nuremberg, in my opinion. The food is great and not expensive. The service is also very good!

The patio overlooks the Tiergaertner Tor Platz and it was crowded like a beehive tonight. The huge plaza tree was lit up and thousands of folks enjoying their night on the patios of the surrounding restaurants, on the plaza benches, or even seated on the ground. Great ambiance all together. The staff was very attentive and we didn't seem to have an assigned server as any of them passing by checked to see if we needed anything. The menu here changes often, but also has a few staples and some innovative takes on our Franconian dishes. So we discovered Pretzel pizza... I was suspicious at first, reading the list of ingredients, but threw caution in the wind and went for the Franconian version (my friend opted for the Vegetarian). It really did sound horrible... laugen dough (which is what pretzels are made of), Schmarrn (related to sourcream, or cream cheese, but not quite the same), local brats, kraut, cheese and tomatoes. I was prepared for a nightmare... but it ended up being delicious. The pizzas were served with a mini salad topping the middle of it. The dough was nice and thin and had that typical nice chewy crust all around. The ingredients worked surprisingly well together, but could have done without the tomatoes. Visually they were a nice pop of colors, but tastewise they had no business on the Franconian Pretzel pizza. I didn't try the vegetarian version, but my friend, who is a tiny person, ate the entire thing, whereas I could only finish half of mine. So I would say she enjoyed it. I had the pana cotta with blueberry compote and was delighted to see the compote made from the small blueberries I grew up with instead of these huge overbred tasteless blueberries so common nowadays. Kudos to this place. Check it out if you are ever in the area.
