Checking around for a tailor in Bloomington, I read glowing reviews about Golden Stitch, and thought I'd give it a try. I drove the couple blocks and the place was closed. It was a weekday afternoon. I ended up taking that pair of pants to The Perfect Fit (which I happily recommend, by the way). I did, though, make up my mind to go back to Golden Stitch, bringing a shirt to be taken in. At $25, it was a bit steep, but nothing that'll break the bank. Also had another pair of slacks to be hemmed. Now here's the problem. I was told they'd be done "next week," and I've been trying in vain -- for two weeks now -- to get back the clothes I thought belonged to me. On three separate occasions when I dropped by, the store was closed in the middle of the day. Calling ahead is fruitless; nobody answers the phone. I could yammer on and on about how nice the ladies are and so forth, but the operation struck me as pretty unprofessional. Raising the price of a hem from an already healthy $9 up to $10 doesn't help their case. Taking your clothes to Golden Stitch is, frankly, a risk. If you see a confused young man wandering around the square without pants on, it is probably me killing time until I try to pick them up again. read more

I work was adequate​, but I was overcharged​ from the agreed price when I went to pick up my dress.

Dropped Pants off in April, went 16 times to pick them up and either came to an empty store during their business hours or was told that they forgot and will have them ready the next day then wasn't there for days at a time. Would not recommend read more

They do beautiful work here. It is a little expensive but it's worth it. I had my very delicate wedding dress hemmed and taken in here, and they did very good work. They do tend to close randomly in the middle of the day, so I suggest making appointments for when you are going to come in, even if it's just to pick something up. Just call ahead and set a time so you know they will be there. read more

I hate to give this place two stars because the alterations themselves are PERFECT. Expensive, but very well done. The two stars is because it's almost impossible to get your clothes back in a reasonable period of time. The store is sometimes just closed on weekdays and trying to catch the owner can be a real headache. Even if it takes several months to finish a piece no discount will be offered. Beautiful work, but you have to be more aggressive in getting the service finished than I prefer to be. read more

Their website and signage said they were open on Mondays and I made a special trip to get a dress altered. Sadly, they were not actually open and when I called to inquire, the owner was very rude on the phone. read more

Poor to fair doesn't even describe the terrible quality and service of Golden Stitch Alterations. If you want a true review, continue reading this review. My experience was one that should have never happened. I gave the tailor a shirt, jacket and pants and told them they had an extra week just in case they couldn't get it done in time from the week they said it will take. Two weeks later, I received my jacket with the wrong tailoring and couple of dirty spots which I now have to take to a dry cleaner (they dont press your stuff). My pants were ruined along with my shirt and the tailor confused the two tailoring measurements. Plus, I am down $100. Not to mention, she claimed I was a racist when I brought this up. Lastly, she kicked me out the store and threatened to call the police. DONT GO HERE. read more

Horrific service, horrific location. Lady was incredibly rude and absolutely RUINED my suit.

A friend came here to get her wedding dress done, plus the bridesmaid dresses. She wanted some custom work done, which the owner assured her could be done. At first, there were problems of constantly canceled appointments and then problems reaching the shop to reschedule. Frequently, the owner would email in the middle of the night to cancel instead of calling the day before. The dresses were done three weeks after the original pick-up date, and the owner and her assistant were confused as to why having the dresses ready only a week before the wedding was a problem. The real problem? All the bridesmaid's dresses are ill fitting, but there is no time to get them fixed by someone more competent. While the owner took on a difficult task creating custom dresses, she failed to let us know that it was too hard for her. When we finally picked up the dresses (after a week of being put off), we were yelled at by both her and her assistant, being told that we never should have come to them with this request. So not only are we punished with strange fitting dresses with uneven stitching and poor hemming, we were yelled at for taking our business to them. Instead of just living up to being behind, the owner lied to us and blamed the bride for flaws in her sewing. Also, the dresses smelled terrible when we finally picked them up. Mine had a stain on it. I can sum up this shop in one word: RUN. Find somewhere else in town. You won't be sorry that you've avoided the worst customer service ever. read more

Don't believe their web site that says preferred by local bikers for leather work. I took a pair of new leather chaps to them to be hemmed to length and was quoted $20.00. I agreed and the lady (not owner) had me put them on and pinned them for length and told me they would be ready in a week. I returned a week later and they were done. The problem was that one leg was 3/4" shorter than the other. The lady told me many people have one leg shorter than the other and that is not unusual. This is not my case and was very noticeable. The only solution at this point was to shorten the longer leg to match the shorter one(not my preferred length). She did so in one day at no extra charge. The problem now is that the leather is weakened from the removed stitches right on the bottom of the hem, where it will get the most wear. I believe that the life of the leather has been greatly compromised and will begin to fray at the weak point much sooner than would have. I tried calling the owner and had great difficulty getting her on the phone. She would not return calls and most went to voice mail. When I finally was able to speak to her she agreed to meet me at the shop to discuss the matter. She did not show up at the meeting time. (possible health problems). The lady that did the work told me that the owner had looked at the garment and did not agree that it was damaged in any way and was not willing to do anything other than refund the $20.00 fee. I took my $20.00 and left feeling very disappointed that the owner was not willing to accept any responsibility for damaging my new chaps. read more

My daughter brought a bridesmaid dress in for hemming. They said it would take two weeks. The owner called my daughter two weeks later, on a Friday, and said she was still working on the dress and she would call her the next day. No call. So my daughter called her on Tuesday after not getting any calls. She text my daughter that she had to go out of town and she would call later that day. We called repeatedly and she again text that she was busy. So unprofessional. My daughter went to the restaurant connected to the alteration shop and asked if she could be let in to get her dress as the wedding was in four days. An unapologetic man let her in the alteration shop and her dress was not there. Frantic, we tried calling the owner again. She finally text saying the dress would be ready on Thursday, 20 days later. The dress was hemmed, no apology and a lot of unneeded stress for us. We did not leave with a smile on our face as her website claims. Lesson learned for my daughter, do not prepay for any service! read more

I had an excellent experience at Golden Stitch Alterations. Needed to have some items altered (taken in) and they did an amazing job. They finished by the time they said they would have it done (I had to have it by a specific date), they were polite & professional throughout, they had no hidden/additional costs, and the dress looked amazing at the end. Waited for over a month for my jeans. When I got them back, one of the jeans ripped after the first day I wore them. While I was waiting for my jeans I would try and go to the store, and call but they were never there. read more

Owner seems to like the price of $50.00 for any alteration I have taken in. I now use So Sew's near College Mall and have found their prices much more reasonable for the same quality of work. Don't waste your money Golden Stitch is a rip off! read more

This alterations shop was horrible to work with. Id bought my husband a jersey as a gift. Unfortunately it didn't fit & didn't come in a bigger size. So I had him take it to Golden Stitch to see if they could add some material. He was told yes they could help, that it would take two weeks to complete. He asked if they needed him to pay them upfront. They stated that was ideal. He prepaid $70.00. Two weeks later on day they said it would be completed, he went to pick up his shirt. They indicated that the seamstress hadn't been in to complete it & asked if he would give them two more weeks. He hesitantly agreed. Again two weeks later on the date they said it would be done, he went in to get his shirt. Again the shirt had not been touched. This time he was told by the owner that she had been sick and the shop had been closed. No call to the customers that there had been any delays. At this point he asked for his shirt & a refund of the $70.00 he had paid. The owner submitted the credit via her credit card system. The owner called him later that night to say that they were having issues with their credit card system & to watch for the credit. He noticed the receipt showing reversal stated machine was offline. She stated to watch for a couple days as they were getting machines fixed. Credit never appeared back into our account and he had tried calling the shop & her personal cell phone (that she had called him from) for three weeks!! Wednesday of this week he went to the shop to get his money back. Of course shop was closed. The owner of Golden Stitch happens to own the little restaurant next door. My husband went into the restaurant & asked for owner, she wasn't there. The staff member said she would call the owner and have her call him. Before he could get into the car parked in front of shops she was calling him. She said that he had never called her, which he called every couple days for three weeks To both shop & cell. She stated to him that it was a new phone and didn't know how to use it all the way yet. He explained all he wanted was his money back. She started arguing with him and accused him of trying to get double back which he never received it once let alone twice. She said again about trouble with machines. He told her that he'd give her until Friday and if he didn't receive the credit that he would call the Better Business Bureau on her. She said -oh you would do that? That evening she texted him a copy of the credit slip. This time it didn't say offline. The credit did finally hit our account. The time it took for everything was crazy, the fact that her business was closed numerous times when they were supposed to be open. That there was no communication with customers who were waiting on items & that the staff had no ability to do even a credit was awful!!! Im so glad that I wasn't waiting on a wedding dress or something. They have totally lost any business from us!!! read more

Owner was supposed to shorten a long dress into a short dress. She made it so short that it could not be worn. Even when asked if she could fix the error, she refused unless more money was paid. Beware!!!!! Never do business with an establishment that charges the full price right up front as this one does. Poor customer service and poor attention to detail. Dress was ruined. read more
