SO DISAPPOINTED. We dealt with James Mrad and we were very unhappy with our experience. We paid 10K for custom French doors that are not at all what we wanted :( We had asked for a quote for French doors with grilles (divided lights). He missed this very important detail on our order, and we did not know enough to catch the error and assumed the parts listed in the order had grilles as we had requested. When we realized the mistake, James was not helpful at all. He would not provide the name of an installer to try to remediate the situation. He was hostile and gas lit us and said that he had checked the order with our contractor, but I had told him from the beginning that ordering the windows was out of scope for our contractor. The quoted cost to fix the problem from Marvin was more than the cost of the doors themselves and unfortunately we don't have budget for this. Mistakes happen and they can be very costly, but James did not admit he had made an error by missing the detail on the order. To me this is a total lack of integrity. read more

brought kitchen windows from golden state. I had warranty issues with the windows. Installer and Manufacturer dismissed my concerns. But Roman (+ Ernie) worked with the manufacturer to replace the windows for free and fixed the issue to my full satisfaction. I think these guys sincerely care about customer satisfaction which is refreshing. Most contractors never get a repeat customer. But not golden state based on my experience. I will be a repeat customer here because i know if there is an issue these guys will try their best to resolve it, so as a customer you have a good experience. read more

I met with four vendors for new construction windows before deciding on Golden State Lumber. In my case, I already had contractors doing related work on my home signed up to handle the installation. I was specifically looking to purchase windows, not pay for installation as well. Turns out this is harder to find, as most of the top options you'll find on Yelp only sell a bundled package. If your situation is like mine, lumberyards are the way to go. I worked with Jesse on the initial quote and the prices he shared were competitive. Ordering was straightforward, and it was helpful to test out a few of the models on site at their office. There was a long wait time before the windows were delivered, but that's typical these days and the estimates were in range. Unfortunately, we encountered a manufacturing defect with the windows we waited so long for. Golden State sent out Ernie, a technician, for the initial review of the issue. It was later escalated to Tim, the VP of Operations. We tried a recommended fix to no avail before eventually getting a replacement set of windows ordered. The situation was not ideal, but by no fault of Golden State. They were fairly responsive throughout the process including visiting my home several times. While in an ideal world, everything goes smoothly, it's often more revealing seeing how a business treats customers when there are issues. Overall, I was happy with how the situation was resolved, so thank you to everyone at Golden State involved in the process. read more

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with a recent experience I had with service technicians (chris & don) during a window and door service appointment. On the technicians arrived and brought in the new sliding door after waiting for almost 8 months technicians arrived to conduct the necessary repairs. Unfortunately, I was taken aback by their unprofessional behavior throughout the visit. Specifically, when my wife asked chris to replace the screws with the right color so it could match the new sliding doors that they installed, but chris Thought that she wasnt watching and he used a sharpie to just paint some silver screw heads that he installed while talking with his wife on the phone, she also overhear mister Don cursing and expressing frustration by saying " stup** fuc**** marvin piece of sh**" As a customer, it was disheartening to witness such a lack of professionalism, especially in a service-oriented business where customer satisfaction is paramount. This behavior not only made me feel uncomfortable but also gave me the impression that my concerns were not being taken seriously. I believe that maintaining a professional demeanor is essential in providing quality service and ensuring a positive customer experience. We worked with Roman Sanchez to replace all of the windows and install a new door in our 100 year old house. This was a big project for us and went more smoothly than I could have hoped. We chose Marvin products. Roman was extremely helpful and very patient in making all the many decisions involved with selecting multiple elements that go into the final product. Every recommendation he made was spot on. We wanted to match the new windows to the existing gum wood casings and he intervened for us with the manufacturer to get the stain formula. Probably the most important thing he did was to recommend Michael Sorrentino of CA Thermal Winows for our installation. UPDATED 6/16/20: Over the weekend, Elizabeth emailed and called us back apologizing for the delay in getting back to us. She said the owner, Tim was going to come out and take a look. On Tuesday morning, Tim came out and met with the foreman and the contractors to take a look at the windows. He explained the difference between new construction windows vs insert windows. My parents didn't really understand the difference so in reality most of the windows were not too small. They had to order the size just below the actual size of the old windows so they don't become "custom orders". The were however errors on 3 of the windows. Tim quickly said they would replace them with no cost and that he will put a rush on them. He was kind, knowledgeable and professional. We appreciated him explaining everything to me so I could further translate to my parents. Most of it was just an understanding from a consumer standpoint. We are not window experts. 6/14/20: I helped my parents place an order for over $50,000 worth of windows for their house remodel. That is correct... $50,000!! At first the service was fine and not an issue but then the windows came and some of them were not correct. My parents is remodeling their kitchen and decided to replace all their windows as well. Most of the windows that came were made too small. We don't know how that's even possible as they were replacing old windows which already had existing casings. They did not modify the window casings so the new windows should not be 1-2 inches smaller. My parents contacted the company and it's been a week with no reply back. All construction work has stopped because of this. I've reached out again and will stop payment on the second portion of the payment if this isn't resolved. I don't mind updating this review once matters have been resolved or even deleting it. read more

The new Marvin windows are beautiful and very well manufactured with no flaws. We ordered $5,000 double door from them. We explained in email as well as in person as to which door would be the active door clearly. Door came in and installed. The active door is wrong. They don't stand behind their product and offered to switch the doors at their cost (even though 100% was their mistake). We did everything we could do to order this correctly. read more

Don't bother going here for windows, doors or hardware for these. We tried twice! The customer service was terrible both times! The first time no one else was there but they could not be bothered to look up prices and different configurations of Emtek door handle for a bathroom (which they carry!), even though there was no one else there and they were just sitting around. We were also shopping for a place to buy a new Marvin door. We obviously decided not to buy it here. We ended up buying the Emtek doorknob from a distributor in Los Angeles while we were down there visiting family where the staff was so nice and helpful!!! This showroom and store was a thousand times better and the staff were trained to give customer service!!! But we live in SF. So, the second time we tried again to find a part we needed for another door. Again, the staff was unhelpful and really borderline hostile. I really don't know why a store would hire such salespeople who are unqualified, incompetent, socially inept. Do not bother going here. Look elsewhere They hit my parked car with one of their pickup trucks and then attempted to flee the scene and ultimately denied responsibility. They told me on the phone they would take care of it and AGAIN denied responsibility. If this is a representation of their business practices, I suggest looking for any alternatives. Without a doubt no one should ever work with this company. I ordered for more than $65K of windows and doors with them including about $35K of Fleetwood doors in May of 2022. Having not received an ETA for delivery of these doors, in October I asked what was going on with my order. The sales guy told me that the lead time had been 36-38 weeks at time of order (~ 9 months). Come January I ask again what is going on with my order, and I'm told that there might be delays. Frustrated by this situation I contact Fleetwood directly to ask how it is possible that it would take 9 months to get the doors that I ordered and that again I am told of further delays. The Fleetwood owner contacted me on Yelp as he was very surprised by the lead time that I was being quoted and asked his North California representative to look into it, which she did and contacted me. It turns out that even though I approved the quote and Golden State cashed my check on June 1st 2022, the order never made it to Fleetwood's system until October 10th 2022, 4.5 months later. It turns out that when I enquired about what was going on with my order in October, the Golden State Lumber sales guy realized that the order was never put in with Fleetwood and only then corrected his mistake. Instead of coming clean and admitting to the mistake (regardless of who was responsible), he pretended like nothing happened and tried to sweep it under the rug suggesting that all these delays were normal. He had multiple opportunities to tell me what was going on when I repeatedly asked for updates to my order, but didn't. It's only because I contacted Fleetwood directly that I was made aware of the deception. Mistakes happen.. everyone makes them. In particular I know that this sales guy had a lot of personal things going on his life at the time, so I understand that this might have slipped through the cracks. But instead of owning up to the mistake and making it up to me as a customer who has spent a significant amount of money with them he lied about it and blamed it on Fleetwood. I will never do business with these people again, and highly recommend that no ones does either. read more
