Some people might like the idea of spending hours in a salon, being served complimentary drinks and eventually walking out the door with a haircut so trendy you'll be wearing a hat for the next two months... but not me. I just want to walk out with less hair than I started with, and without wasting half a day. On that score, Barber Box delivers. And a cut costs only £4.50. I discovered it when I used to live only a few doors away, and I must admit to a certain trepidation the first time. Having simply asked for them to cut it short, they more or less left me with a mullet. Unfortunately, I wasn't planning on moving to Moscow, so for the first time in my life I actually asked the barber to have another go (I dare you to try that with your typical supercilious salon stylist and come out with your ears!)... and the barber was more than happy to. Since then, I've been going back regularly. Even after moving from the area, I still make the trip back, because I know what I'm going to get, and it's cheap. Did I mention it's only £4.50? There are only 3 chairs, and a seemingly random number of people barbering, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes, and there's a tv screen showing sport to pass the time. Or, if you're a proper local, after trading 'Salaam's with the barbers you can catch up on all the local gossip. Seriously. £4.50!

My barber was what seemed to be like the shop owner (the man with the prominent mustache) and he really had the routine down, as every move seems to have been performed thousands of time. Needless to say, but I felt in very safe hands. The shop interior itself seems to have been the same since forever, which added to the above-mentioned experience. Furthermore, I liked that the customers were composed of all different kinds of people: older Turkish gentleman, men who seem to have just a come back from a day at work in the City, Yuppies and I even spotted a Hipster! The quality of the shave aside, there is one remark that I would like to make: the towel they used for the hot towel shave wasn't as fresh as it should be.

Staff is super friendly, my barber took the time to do the haircut I wanted, I never felt rushed at any point. All of that, for £10! Lads, it doesn't get any better than this. I observed during my time in the shop that there was no rush but no waste of time either -- if a cut and a shave took 30 minutes or more to do right, then it took the guys 30 minutes or more to do; if it took 15 minutes to do right, then it took the guys 15 minutes to do. Pricing wise, it's pretty much the standard UK charge, 14.5 pounds for a hairstyle. But they specialize in beard trimming and slight back type men hairstyle. I went for the undercut and fading on the side and kept the top from being too short. The barber was very attentive with me and listened to my requests. I ended up with a very standard slick back style hairstyle which is what I wanted. Recommended for hair trimming and slick backs. Would definitely go back again.

Jane Edwards has been happy to work with me; rather than loading my hair down with products or insisting that I need to straighten it, she cuts it to emphasize the curls so it's easy to take care of. Everyone I've encountered there is friendly, they're efficient without making you feel rushed, and they take care in their work. I always leave with a smile on my face and a skip in my step to show off my nicely cut, bouncy hair.
