The other day a friend and I engaged in some shop talk...barber shop talk, to be more specific…read more Being a lazy bum when it comes to shaving, I frequently resort to getting a proper shave at a barber shop. This friend told me I should go to Mets in Stroud Green - he swears by this place. And to make sure I had the best possible experience, he send me a note saying this: "Make sure you get seen by the owner, Metin abi. :)" And so I followed his instructions yesterday, when my stubbles had made me look a bit mangy when in fact I needed to look presentable for a Christmas party later that evening. I arrived at Mets and given that it was a weekday morning, I only had to wait a little while. I made sure to pass on my friend's message and asked for Metin, who in fact was the person I talked to - lucky me. I told him about the friend who referred me to his shop and he actually knew who I was talking about - brilliant. Soon I was in the comfy chair and enjoyed the foamed-up brush massaging my face and preparing it for the shave. Once I was all covered in white, Metin asked his apprentice to set up the steamer; this blew steam on my face to aid in opening my pores. The shave I experienced was thorough and I especially valued how Metin would take a closer look afterwards making sure he didn't miss any stubbles. Afterwards his apprentice wrapped up my face in a steaming-hot towel and I noticeably sunk deeper into the chair...relaxation pure! Afterwards, Metin filled up his palm with a very generous dash of lemon cologne and massaged it into my face - I really enjoyed this extra treatment, where he massaged my temples and forehead. Lastly, he applied some moisturiser...and that was the end of a quick, but satisfying spa-experience!

As far as I'm concerned, grooming is something that happens to overpriced pets, and unwary kids…read moreusing the internet. Some people might like the idea of spending hours in a salon, being served complimentary drinks and eventually walking out the door with a haircut so trendy you'll be wearing a hat for the next two months... but not me. I just want to walk out with less hair than I started with, and without wasting half a day. On that score, Barber Box delivers. And a cut costs only £4.50. I discovered it when I used to live only a few doors away, and I must admit to a certain trepidation the first time. Having simply asked for them to cut it short, they more or less left me with a mullet. Unfortunately, I wasn't planning on moving to Moscow, so for the first time in my life I actually asked the barber to have another go (I dare you to try that with your typical supercilious salon stylist and come out with your ears!)... and the barber was more than happy to. Since then, I've been going back regularly. Even after moving from the area, I still make the trip back, because I know what I'm going to get, and it's cheap. Did I mention it's only £4.50? There are only 3 chairs, and a seemingly random number of people barbering, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes, and there's a tv screen showing sport to pass the time. Or, if you're a proper local, after trading 'Salaam's with the barbers you can catch up on all the local gossip. Seriously. £4.50!

Now upto £5.50 No frills no bs, they just cut your hair how you ask. I definitely recommend this place.
