As far as I'm concerned, grooming is something that happens to overpriced pets, and unwary kids…read moreusing the internet. Some people might like the idea of spending hours in a salon, being served complimentary drinks and eventually walking out the door with a haircut so trendy you'll be wearing a hat for the next two months... but not me. I just want to walk out with less hair than I started with, and without wasting half a day. On that score, Barber Box delivers. And a cut costs only £4.50. I discovered it when I used to live only a few doors away, and I must admit to a certain trepidation the first time. Having simply asked for them to cut it short, they more or less left me with a mullet. Unfortunately, I wasn't planning on moving to Moscow, so for the first time in my life I actually asked the barber to have another go (I dare you to try that with your typical supercilious salon stylist and come out with your ears!)... and the barber was more than happy to. Since then, I've been going back regularly. Even after moving from the area, I still make the trip back, because I know what I'm going to get, and it's cheap. Did I mention it's only £4.50? There are only 3 chairs, and a seemingly random number of people barbering, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes, and there's a tv screen showing sport to pass the time. Or, if you're a proper local, after trading 'Salaam's with the barbers you can catch up on all the local gossip. Seriously. £4.50!

Now upto £5.50 No frills no bs, they just cut your hair how you ask. I definitely recommend this place.

I wouldn't call myself an expert in getting a shave, but I've been to a fair amount of barbers now…read moreand my visit here was one of the fastest, most professional and best. My barber was what seemed to be like the shop owner (the man with the prominent mustache) and he really had the routine down, as every move seems to have been performed thousands of time. Needless to say, but I felt in very safe hands. The shop interior itself seems to have been the same since forever, which added to the above-mentioned experience. Furthermore, I liked that the customers were composed of all different kinds of people: older Turkish gentleman, men who seem to have just a come back from a day at work in the City, Yuppies and I even spotted a Hipster! The quality of the shave aside, there is one remark that I would like to make: the towel they used for the hot towel shave wasn't as fresh as it should be.

This is the kind of place that I would incorporate into my daily routine. I would really like to go…read moredown and chat to the barber while he gives me an ultra clean shave. Unfortunately I don't really have the time, and I also assume that getting a shave at the barber isn't as cheap as it used to be. Anyway, I think you get the point. It is a real barber, just like you see in old movies. What I really like about it is the fact that the walls are covered in all sorts of old blades. It really shows that they have a genuine passion for what they do. The other really amazing thing is the classic red and white pole that spins outside the shop. Amazing. If you want a haircut or shave in true barber style, I suggest you head down to Saf's.

I love getting a shave...it's like the manly version of going to a day spa. And while Golden…read moreScissors might not look like your typical day spa, I found coming here tremendously relaxing: when I arrived there were already a few people waiting their turn and so I sat down in one oft he sofas. Right away a young lad approached me and offered my çay and some Turkish delight - which made me feel at ease right away. While I was waiting I watched the barbers clipping away with their "golden" scissors, wrapping hot & steamy towels around the faces of clients, applying generous amounts of shaving foam and blow drying hair into shape. It is truly a fun sight and although I had brought a book to kill the waiting time, I was properly entertained by the business around me. When it was my turn I told the barber that I wanted a shave and then I was able to sit down and relax. The steamy towel was engulfing my head and then I could feel the shaving brush lathering up my face with the uniquely scented foam. All the while I had my eyes closed and simply enjoyed the procedure. (I've long abolished the thoughts that the barber would try to cut my throat...) When it wars all done (one shave, one follow-up shave and another hot towel wrapped around my face), the barber took his scissors and adjusted my side burns and trimmed my nose. Then he applied the lemon-cologne that I so highly associate with Turkish barbers and afterwards massaged some lotion onto my skin... Thumbs up!

While we made small chit chat about politics when he saw that I also did "the part" in my hair as he had with his I can tell he got excited that someone else did the same thing. Dennis was extremely friendly, charming and funny! I wanted a massage while I was in London but the way Dennis took care of me with a facial wrap and cleaning my small ear hairs with a Turkish fire method I felt pampered! Thanks Dennis and Golden Scissors you were great!!! Scott Boardman
