I posted on google what a good experience it was not knowing any better until after I had a couple of surgeries done at the end of 2025. I went to a shop in Ferndale where the stylist informed me that those are not locs she crocheted the braids that were put in my hair prior to that appointment. So the stylist in Ferndale had to take all the braids out and put some actual locs in. If she didn't know how to do locs she should have said so instead of saying oh yeah I have locs myself. My fault if you look on her website it says nothing about specializing in locs. Please be extra careful careful when looking for Locticians. In fact that's what you need to look for a Loctician.

We had a terrible experience at the salon with my 3 year old. My three year old ended up donating over 11 inches. We were told she could donated 7-8 inches if she didn't want to have her hair cut super short, but 10 is ideal. The stylist said 10 inches would bring it 1/2 inch above her shoulders. I said that is fine, but no shorter that's the shortest I want to go. She literally HACKED her hair off. It is now to her chin, completely uneven and it looks like my 5 year old cut it! I am heartbroken that this exciting experience turned out so sad. We drove from Plymouth to donate. I would NEVER recommend this salon! Pictures don't lie. I wish I could upload a photo you would be horrified. My friend who is a stylist said "this is a job of a lazy stylist!" and "if she can't work with kids she shouldn't have taken on a 3 year old!"

My stylist was Erin, fairly new to the salon. I requested a layered bob because I wasn't sure what I wanted, so she worked with me to clarify. She gave me a great cut, but as it turns out, the bob not as versatile when I wear my curls. I let it grow out and returned. This time, I agreed to a wash as well. I'm thinking: "lord, I hope she knows what she's doing." Not only did she know how to get my hair straight, but she also gave me a really cute shag with lots of layers, just above my shoulders. My only non-negotiable was that she leave me enough hair to pull behind my ears. I love this cut, especially after I went home and bumped the ends a little more. Nevertheless, this cut is undeniable. The salon atmosphere is energetic. The staff are friendly, professional, and accommodating. Another plus is that they respect your time; I was in and out in about an hour and only waited a few minutes.

I don't care - It was TOTALLY worth it and I plan to continue the insanity every time I need my locks trimmed! If you have curly hair you know the lengths a curly girl will go to for a good haircut. I have received one too many bad haircuts in my life to take any more risk with my curls. Luckily, even though I have to go to a different country to get a cut, Jennessa is not too far from me. Jennessa has the cutest curly-centric boutique on the face of the earth. One shampoo bowl, one cutting chair, one drying chair and walls filled with curly hair product. Basically my dream place. I have been addicted to devacurl products (the line Jennessa uses) as well as the whole curly girl method for about 7 years now. I have had cuts in Chicago, NYC and Michigan. My experience with Jennessa was BY FAR the best. Jennessa has taken it upon herself to become the curly hair guru of Canada. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to sit in her chair. I learned so much from her and she was wonderful to speak to. You truly can feel how passionate she is about curly hair and helping everyone discover their inner curly girl! A haircut with Jennessa is not just a cut - its a lesson, an experience. I learned so many new things during my appointment. I feel like a brand new curly girl! Jennessa cuts curly hair like it should be cut - dry and curl by curl. She is also trained, certified and an educator for http://www.devacurl.com/. After my cut I am not only sporting a super cute refreshed look but I feel like my curls got a whole new life (after some product suggestions that she gave me). If you have curly hair I understand not wanting to be crazy like me and going across the border all the time for cuts - but do it at least once. Learn about your curls. Get a lesson from the master. You will be so happy that you did! (she does book up very quickly so plan in advance!)

I cried I was so upset, and I decided to stick to weaves. Fast forward a year and I couldn't stand my hair and didn't want another weave, so I looked for a braid shop once again.... After striking out and a practical repeat of bad luck that I had before, i.e., people not at the shop or not answering the phone or having horrible reviews or being stupidly overpriced, etc., I came upon Superstar Hair Braiders. I called and no one answered BUT they called me back! Whoah, that's new! I like it. Next day at noon, I showed up for Senegalese twists with a one sided French braid sweep. 10min after I arrived I was in a chair being worked on. They answered all the questions I had, helped me with hair color and style preferences. I had wanted burgundy but they didn't have enough of the color to do my head. I was disappointed as I had asked for that color when I made the appointment so I'd suggest if you want a more unique unnatural color to make sure they'll have it in stock or just bring your own. I was also told $160 on the phone but then $180 when I arrived. I didn't dispute it because I just didn't want to get into it but I should have mentioned it. I'm non-confrontational in a bad way. Ugh. Anyway... My hair came out awesome!!!! I've never been to a shop that had so many different hair styles for braids. All the ladies are helpful, wear cute pink aprons with Superstar Hair Braider on it, and omg are they FAST. I was done in 4hrs, not 4 and a half, FOUR. The biggest capper, as if it could get any better, they take credit cards!!!! I'll totally be using these guys again no doubt. It's in a basement of a house which was totally fine with me. It's clean and they are so professional!! Most of their pictures and reviews are on their Facebook page so go there for more reviews.

I get there on time and the owners daughter who's really sweet set me and began separating the hair. She confirmed what I was getting and the price I was quoted. She did one braid. I told her it was short. She asked me if I wanted the hair braided to my waist or if I wanted it to hang to my waist. I said, braid it to my waist she began braiding more. I had to get up to check on my son I looked in the mirror and told her these braids are too short. She agreed they were too short and she kept braiding. I assume she was braiding longer in the back half and she would come back and fix the ones that were too short, but that did not happen. Her mom the owner came down because another client came. She finished her and she assisted with me. I turned around and asked the owner are these waist length because they're pretty short. she got upset and say yes these are waist length why? I said because they're not waist length they're actually only braided to my bra strap and the rest is hanging. I would never want that much synthetic hair hanging. She said oh well that's what we do here and when you say waste length it's the hair that's hanging to your waist, not braided to your waist. I said that's not standard because everywhere else waist length is braided to the waist, which is why it cost more not because there's hair hanging that would hang anyway. she said I don't know where you went but here that's not how we do it. She also stated at how she's been in business for 20 years and how you just can't please everyone. All while yelling. I didn't match her tone or her raised voice because my minor son was there and so was her daughter, but I did let her know that when I called and got a quote I asked for waist length. I let her daughter know twice that the braids was too short she said, yeah I know that she let me know. I said well if she let you know, why didn't you come down here and address it. She said I'm addressing it now. I can either cut the braids out and you can go or for 50 more dollars we can braid to your waist. I said I have already been here for 4 1/2 hours. I have to go to physical therapy in 40 minutes. I can't do that. She continue to get upset and yell about how long she's been in business how she knows what she's doing and not to compare her to other places. I didn't even go back-and-forth with her because once again I wouldn't do that in front of minors. I cannot drive due to my recent surgery, so I'm on someone else's time so that's the reason I did not have her take the braids down or go someplace else because I've wasted a half a day there. I would have to go and shampoo my hair to find another shop to go to. I cannot drive so I'm on someone else's time and I had a funeral to attend in the morning. My take away from this entire experience was very unpleasant as I've been to her before although it was years ago I've worn Braids all year. although over time I've been to different shops standard in this industry for waist length is braided to the waist or at least close to it not the middle of the back and it's hanging to your waist. It's synthetic hair. You should be given the option or if you want several inches of hair hanging there was no reason for her to raise her voice as I did not raise mine nor did I ever get disrespectful. My parts are not the same size. My parts are not the same shape. I do not have a center part. If I wanted to wear my hair in two ponytails, it would be a zigzag part. I have approximately five braids that come past my butt. Approximately six braids that hangs to my waist and the rest stop in the middle of my back. I did not realize this until I got home and looked in the mirror, but she knew this while she was raising her voice yelling at me I would never recommend anyone going here. I would tell you to go someplace else where you get what you were expect and your money's worth. If this was not paid in cash, I absolutely would dispute this charge because I did not get what I paid for and I am very disappointed.
