Literally no sauce or flavor in the rice OR chow mein, and when we went back in to ask for some, *after spending over $100 dollars*, they wanted to charge us more for it and was only willing to sell us 2 for our multiple bland entrees. The person behind the counter said "we're low on sauce" and I had to wait several hours until I got home to make it more than a plain, flavorless noodle dish. This was one of the THREE times I've tried to go in the past two weeks; the first two were closed when online business hours claimed to be open...Kind of wish it was closed this third time and I would have saved some money. WOOOWW!! Unbelievable service!! I ordered overpriced stale Chinese food. The rice was inedible (I'm really not one to complain but every other bite was stale). Not a lot of restaurant options in Forks so when it started to pour, we chose to have lunch at GG as the parking lot was empty - quick in and out, we thought. The server greeted us immedately as we walked in. The restaurant has booths as well as larger tables and appeared clean. The prices are a bit on the high side compared to similar restaurants in Seattle. They did offer combo meals so we chose to order from that selection. Choice of the usual protein (General Tso's chicken; sweet and sour chicken; almond chicken; egg foo yong) with fried rice and chow mein. Good portion size meal and flavors were good. This is the hands down worst restaurant experience I've ever had in every possible way. We waited for almost an hour, the waitress never once came over to let us know if or when we were going to get our food. When it arrived, there was admittedly OK orange chicken, "fried rice" which was just rice with hot pink chunks of "meat" in it, eggrolls filled with smelly cabbage, and worst of all "monogolian beef", which was a sliced raw onion covered in disgusting brown gravy. The portions here are TOO small. When I am camping for days and want a hot meal I want a good-sized portion. I had to buy 2 lunches once and was still not completely filled. I walked out once because the waitress gave me a dirty look and didn't come to seat me in an empty restaurant and made me stand there like a clown. The sign says to wait to be seated which is stupid. I know the owner has to hire local people but they should not have a pubic housing work ethic. Increase the size of the portions and maybe I will come back. When I pay almost $8 for a meal I want a decent sized portion. Fried rice is not that expensive so increase the portion size for visitors who are camping in the area. They had good tea here. I thought there was tree bark in my tea but it was a solid piece of tea meant to be there. This place is really pretty bad. It seemed like the food was definitely reheated from earlier. Very standard fare, nothing too special in the offerings. My girlfriend and I each got the individual dinner special. As they were delivering mine they asked which one she had ordered and it came out 2-3 minutes later... Pretty fishy if you ask me. Very friendly service and I'm sure it's family owned so I hate to make it harder for the little guy but the food really just speaks for itself and what it has to say is not good. So, we drove to Forks to see where we could eat. We looked on Yelp and this place didn't have good reviews, so it didn't even show up when I looked for places with high ratings. We were going to do the other Chinese restaurant in the town or Mexican... But, we ended up here, thinking it was the Chinese restaurant with the higher reviews. It wasn't. However, I'm glad we did stop here... The place was clean, the waitress was prompt and friendly and the food was GREAT! We ordered the House Special Chow Mein, House Special Egg Foo Young and Chicken Curry... It was all wonderful! And the prices aren't bad either! Other then not being open most of the time I was in Forks, the food was depressing and obviously had been pre-frozen then re-heated or fried!!!! I ordered a "lunch special" from a list of 3 different kinds. When I ordered I simply stated the lunch special, the waitress, who obviously didn't care about me as a customer, didn't ask which of the three and not only charged me double but brought me the wrong lunch! I love Chinese food and will tolerate a lot of bad service, living in the bay area one has to, but this was above and beyond. I will never return. Order Szechuan chick, sweet sour, and egg flour soup. Sweet sour soup was more savory than sweet and sour but good. Egg drop had a cream corn flavor but still good. Szechuan chicken had a lot of veggies, all fresh and crunchy. Flavor was enjoyable. Unfair to rate speed in a small town. Could this place survive in Seattle, LA, or New York? My husband and I were looking for a place to eat when passing through and since there isn't much variety in the town of Forks, we settled on this place. We were greeted promptly and seated right away. We were given hot tea and time to look over the menu. Being our first time here we decided to order safely sticking with chicken entrees. We ordered off the Lunch Specials menu, my husband got Kung Pao Chicken (included Pork fried rice and a spring roll) and I ordered Chicken chow mein (which also included Pork fried rice and a spring roll). Shortly after ordering our waitress brought us Egg Drop Soup which was quite delicious. Our orders came shortly after. Everything was delicious and nicely seasoned. I ate everything but then again I was also really hungry after our hike. Either way, food was good and service was decent. My only complaint is that we didn't get any water before being served our food. But looking at everyone else who just got seated were given tea and water off the bat. But other than that it's a decent place to eat. Twilight fans will enjoy the front entry decor (Jacob, Bella, and Edward adorn the area.). And it looks more inviting to go to than that of the other Chinese cuisine down the street. read more

Golden gate was a really excellent dining experience -- nothing I would change or improve! The food was fresh, tasty, and easily modified for vegetarians (although their veggie menu already has tons of choices). I came with my husband and in-laws, and we ordered veggie mooshoo, ma po tofu (spice level modified to medium, and we asked for hot sauce on the side), handmade noodles (chow mein), and eggplant. Note that they offer brown rice, as well as handmade noodles -- that's a unique treat, I think! The seating is big and plentiful -- we got a choice of booth, table, sunny or shady (we picked a booth in a shady spot). I like that choice. You'll be in good hands with Wing, who was in charge of our table (and the whole place, I think). He's calm and conscientious, and either his parents own the restaurant or be should open his own skin care line. Speaking of conscientiousness, the cook caught up with my in-laws to ask them how they liked the food (he got a thumbs up). The building is absolutely immaculate with nice decor, and Twilight character cardboard figures that greet you when you walk in. Oh, and my fortune said that a shooting star tonight would lead to good luck tomorrow :). I'd happily come to Golden Gate again (except that I'm only passing through Forks), and I think this place would hold its own in Seattle, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the other US cities with good food (Washington DC is not such a city, but that's a different yelp review). read more

Tasty Americanized Chinese that was exactly what I hoped it would be in small town USA. There were many vegetarian options in this large menu, and the service was really fast. They even have free WiFi. The ambiance was really relaxing, with comfy booth seating. Give me tofu with vegetables and a spicy sauce (at least four options in this regard) over rice, and I'm happy as a clam. Leftovers for the next day, too. read more

The food is great at lunch and the prices are good for the specials. It is more American style Chineese food and when the owner is there the food has never been bad. This was literally the worst meal I think we have ever had at a restaurant. I had to change what I ordered 3 times, because they kept telling me they were out, and every time, the waitress just walked away after telling me that. So I had plenty of time to watch other food come out, and I just decided to go with the pot stickers and egg drop soup. My husband tried the chow mein. When his food came out, I felt awful. It was literally a plate that was maybe half full of what looked like to be thick spaghetti noodles with no sauce or flavor at all, and maybe 10 hunks of cabbage. And that was it. For $16. I so badly wanted to take a picture of it, because I could not believe how awful and tiny it looked, but my husband was very definite in "not wanting to be rude". My pot stickers were obviously out of a bag, and were much smaller and inferior to the bag I had that I got from Costco in our freezer at home. The soup was so thick and congealed, my spoon almost stood up in the cup. My husband ate two bites of his, and said it was inedible. After paying almost $40 for our meal, we both left hungry and gave up on eating in Forks in general. We ended up eating the donuts, goldfish crackers and chips we had as our snacks for the trip and deciding that was better than anything else we were going to get there, since many of the other restaurants had already closed. read more

Their eggplant with garlic sauce is extremely good. I would've gotten seconds if I wasn't so full. Mapo tofu is below average but not inedible. I liked it more the more I ate it. The place is nice and clean and the exterior is one of the nicest in the town. Overall, a solid Chinese food place that deserves better stars than it currently has. read more

Food: I had the shrimp and broccoli, and it was on the plus side of average. The shrimp were decent in size and quantity. The broccoli wasn't overcooked and was plentiful. It's a low bar, but I'd say they passed. Price: The price of the entree in the menu seemed reasonable (~$12), but when I got my bill, I was disappointed to see that they had added a charge (~$3) for white rice. Lame. Service: Attentive, professional waitress (except for sneaking in the rice charge). The place was pretty dead, though, so there wasn't much competition for her attention. Atmosphere: Cheesy asian-restaurant theme ... plus ... (drum roll) ... Twilight! Yes, that Twilight. I recently reviewed the other Chinese restaurant in town, South North, and I'm giving this one three stars. Why? The food in both tastes the same but the prices are higher here. At South North, my lunch specials of chicken with broccoli cost or curry chicken set me back $7.95 plus tax. At Golden Gate, my lunch special of Mongolian beef came to about $10.31 with the tax. And again, like South North, the rice was hard and probably 2 hours old and the meat dish was oily. I'm beginning to notice a trend out here in the Forks hinterlands - stay away from the meat dishes. I did notice that the hot and sour soup served here in town is fairly appetizing. Maybe I'll just still to soups. read more

I don't normally write reviews but this place has earned a distinction as the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. I would avoid eating at any other Chinese restaurant in town as well in the future since there is no way this restaurant would still be in business if the other ones served edible food. The food here is by no means cheap, but the food they served us is more disgusting and less healthy than McDonalds. Our meat dishes were all fried in batter so thick it was hard to tell if there was any meat in there at all. We ordered around 7 dishes and only one was edible. The only edible dish was pure vegetables and the only one where they could not have substituted real ingredients for fried batter and gotten away with it. read more

I was sorely disappointed with this restaurant. We walked in and had to wait ten minutes for the owner to come out and seat us, even though there was a sign that says please wait to be seated. Then after that we got menus and water pretty quickly but had to wait another 15 minutes for our order to be taken. I would expect that if a restaurant was busy, but there were only three tables of people, so it really was poor service. We ordered our food, the Homemade Chicken Chow Mein and General Tsao's and both were extremely disappointing. My noodles were clearly not homemade, they looked like ramen from any old packet. And the general tsao's wasn't good either. The best thing about this restaurant was the fortune cookie at the end. read more
