I wanted someone to work with my brother who lives in a skilled nursing facility nearby; she has been seeing him there regularly for several years now. Over this time I have come to appreciate the value to someone who is older or infirm to be touched in a therapeutic way. It's not easy to know where, what kind and how much massage a body in pain needs to feel better and, even more important, cared for. A lot of this depends on the skill and strength of the therapist's hands. But the rest is a matter of communicating warmth and caring, call it spiritual support if you will.
