Barramundi and Eight hour beef cheeks.
Rachel A.

Each time I visit this restaurant I am never disappointed. The service is on point, the food is absolutely delicious. The eight hours beef cheeks are an all time favourite. The sauce is sweet, the meat melts in your mouth. The barramundi is battered lightly and very fresh. Portions are good-sized. The green curry has the most delicious well balanced gravy. The mussels in chilli jam are simply delicious and a generous serve. Accompany all dishes with the coconut and ginger rice, and you're in for a good time! The tuk tuk menu provides for an excellent variety, taking control of the decision making for you and allowing you to sample dishes across the board; and is incredibly well priced for the value received. The wait staff are also fantastic in assisting, taking into account any particulars before determining a diverse pick of the menu, often choosing dishes you would not normally have chosen. The cocktails are divine and have fun names and descriptions to match. You also have the ability to choose from either the in-house drinks menu or the Botanic Bar menu next door. Service is excellent. Staff check up on you throughout your time to ensure everything is ok. The only downfall is that at busy times, if you are seated in the adjacent Botanic Bar, there may be instances where you feel a little forgotten. I haven't personally had any terrible experiences, but it is a slight downfall compared to the consistent service on the other side. All in all, this place is by far my most favourite Thai go-to-restaurant in Adelaide.

Fantastic! Went to Golden Boy for a birthday last night and the whole experience was great. Everyone at the table (except me) had the 'Tuk Tuk' which was a numerous-course (we lost count) feast. Due to allergies I couldn't have the Tuk Tuk, so I ordered off the ala carte menu. The staff were great with me, they had a chat to the kitchen and gave me a large list of recommendations. One lady in particular kept coming to check up on me and my food. I was very impressed with the service. Service aside though, the food was amazing! Obviously I couldn't eat the 'Tuk Tuk' but everyone else at the table raved about it. It was $58 for the 'Tuk Tuk' and they definitely got their money's worth. My food was amazing, I had BBC (broad beans & bean curd) which is a favourite dish of mine. The flavour was excellent. I also had the "crying tiger" chargrilled sirloin. They modified the dipping sauce for me and it was delicious, full of mint and lime, tangy and perfect with the steak. I gobbled it up! I also had the passionfruit parfait which was quite nice As it was our friends birthday we requested they make a dessert for her. They brought out a sorta banana-split, shaped like a penis and balls, with a sparkler. It was hilarious. Not everyone would appreciate a penis dessert, but they could tell we'd find it funny. I would recommend Golden Boy to anyone, good atmosphere, great service and amazing food. P.S. Forgive the crappiness of my photos, it was dimly lit in there.

Looking forward to testing out this new place. Bring on the food!

I would give 5 stars for the food, but for me, dining out is the whole experience. It could have been because it was so busy, but I would have thought that the hospitality industry knows how to plan for busy times. I was just disappointed at the lack of attention to service at our table. We had to wait 20 mins longer than our booking time for a table and then the service was slow. Our waiter (although friendly and well informed on the dishes), told us there was a tuk-tuk menu but didn't mention that there was also alacarte and that the menu was on the back of the placemats, so we didn't even know it was there until they were clearing away at the end of the night. It took a long time for them to take drink orders and then only half were delivered. The food had arrived before the rest of the drinks, despite us asking for them. One of our party went back into the Botanic Bar and ordered a drink from the bar there. (that happened again later). Also, we had to ask 5 times for our water to be topped up during the night instead of them noticing and walking around with water jugs. Can't they just let us have the jug on the table if they are too busy? On the positive side, the food was really delicious and so much care and attention was taken with it. One dish of eggs was cooked at 66deg, at which point the eggs apparently start to congeal, are peeled and then deep fried. They were served halved with fried shallots sprinkled on them. Delicious! Another negative aspect of the service was that the plates were cleared away by one waiter and then another waiter brought more food. So the plates and cutlery had to be brought out again. In fairness, when the waiter said it was a crab curry next and 3 out of the 6 of us couldn't eat that, he made sure if was a different curry that all could eat. And it was delicious! I loved the decor and atmosphere - very funky. The downside was the noise. It was so loud we could barely hold a conversation. Loads of well dressed people, so it was fun looking at all the fashion. We all had a fun night and loved the food. It's just that for that price, I'd expect the customer service to be spot on.

This was the second time we've come to golden boy and both times have been absolutely amazing. Easily the best Thai food in Adelaide, and pretty close to the best SA restaurant full stop. First time we came here we sampled the tuk tuk menu which is a "let us feed you" set up which we quite enjoyed. This time however we just got two starters and three mains to share between two of us and worked out to be the same price as the tuk tuk menu and I think better value, we left so much more full this time. Standouts were the egg nest salad and the pork shoulder pancakes (a must) The only slight negative of golden boy is the drink pricing, a little on the high side, $12 a beer I consider a little steep. Service was immaculate as always and our server was friendly, knowledgable and helpful :-) Will be back again soon to show it off to other friends.

At the corner where East Terrace meets North Terrace is a beautiful old pub, that has been tastefully restored into a new life as a cocktail lounge Botanic Bar. What used to be a pizza place has also had a makeover into the hip new Thai in town, Golden Boy. The evolution of Thai food is a welcome one. Goodbye greasy flavourless noodles. Farewell deep fried anonymous spring rolls which taste only of burnt oil. Welcome dry curries, pickled green peppercorns on stalks, basil of many colours & shapes, lashings of citrus, palm sugar, and chili in many forms. On a punt, we had a go at landing a table at Golden Boy on a warm summer Friday evening without having made a booking. While waiting, we noticed Christopher Pyne dining. We joked that if there was no room, it didn't matter because we didn't want to eat with the man single-handedly dismantling our education system. Turned out there was no room, but lucky for us, you can order from (lucky?) 13 dishes on the Golden Boy menu, from the Botanic Bar in the same building. To match with my dining companion's chili jam Spencer Gulf mussels, we opted for a glass of 2011 Franz Hirtzberger 'Steinfeder' Gruner Veltliner from Wachau, Austria. The mussels came out within 5 minutes and were deliciously sweet and hot. My tamarind pad Thai followed quickly. Smoky, sweet and reminiscent of Simon Bryant's "Eat Dirty" Indian mee, it is at the same time nice & light with fresh lime, plenty of veg including baby corn & oyster mushrooms and a good pile of roasted & crushed peanuts. Could have done with a more liberal shake of chili for my tastes. The heavy earthenware stone serving plates are lovely as is the emphasis on sharing, with each dish coming with oversized forks for trading tastes with your neighbour. Botanic Bar has a nice atmosphere and attracts a friendly crowd with soaring pressed metal ceilings, lounge, booth and bar seating but the music was just a touch too loud for easy conversation. Service was quick and helpful and a nice touch is the lemongrass, ginger, pineapple and mint infused water for self service at the bar. Definitely worth a visit - booking or not. I'll be back to try the tasting menu which in Adelaide is such a great fun and good value way to eat having done so numerous times at Andre's Cucina.

What a trendy place, we were placed at the bar with high seats and it was a great view of the bar and we chatted away with staff while they made customer's drinks. The staff were accommodating to our needs and tried to sit us at a table but it was fully booked and packed. It is also connected to next door's bar with a lounge setting. We decided to stay at the bar with the high seats as it was more brighter lighting there. The place mat, was a A3 paper and when you turn it over, there was a menu. This was pretty cool, very different.Staff kept coming up to check on us while we order from the menu and throughout dinner to ensure we were properly serviced and that we enjoyed our meals. Thumbs up on the excellent quality service they provide here. The setting here are high tables and high chairs in the middle or the bar area. There are tables and booths on the side, it's a small place but with the mirrors in the back, it made the place look bigger. Lots of paintings and decorations on the walls and there were more space at the bar, where customers can sit at the bar and stools and watch the cooks cook meals. The food here are meant to be shared as it's Thai food. There are options of a Tuk Tuk and staff will take over to ensure a scenic route or red light district meal, will will cost about $58 per person What we ordered: *Braised pork belly with crispy barramundi apple, corander and nam jim dressing. Absolutely delicious and tender. The meat pulls apart very easily, saucy falvour and the ginger adds that kick to the flavour. Thumbs up! *Fried whole barramundi with green apple and toasted peanut salad and nam jim. Presented on a big plate, so crispy, covered in lemon, ginger and fish sauce, it was brilliant. The dish was eaten to the point where the head of the fish was left. I will definitely order this dish again. *Bowl of steam jasmine rice - beautiful, very filling. Enough rice to serve two people. *Bowl of coconut and ginger rice - Coconut rice, couldn't taste the ginger, very filling. Enough rice to serve two people. I would definitely come back here again, such great service, great atmosphere and great food. You will need to book as it's very difficult to get a table as it's packed on Friday night.

Staff were welcoming, attentive and knowledgable as well as cute as a button.

My new favourite, I will be bringing everyone I know here. Impeccable service. The food sparkled with flavour. Don't go past the chicken mint salad, you won't regret it! Decor was über cool, polished but still with character. Great hip vibe. I know my life has more meaning now I have discovered GoldenBoy.

Managed to get last minute seating and the waiting staff were accommodating and friendly. Mains were a good take on modern Asian cuisine, ordered a few salads and fish, pork mains, but the highlight was dessert - wish there was more of it (in a good way). Will go back just for the roti :)

We didn't book, but got to sit in the kitchen!

I've visited Golden Boy twice now and each visit has been amazing. The interior looks fresh and different to other restaurants in Adelaide. The service is absolutely faultless. I arrived alone for a dinner and was greeted by at least three waiters who each stopped to ask about my day etc. Even if the food wasn't that good, I would visit just for the service. In terms of food, the menu may seen overwhelming which is why we chose the banquet option - where the waiter will bring out a variety of dishes. The banquet can even be tailored to special requests (i.e. Vegetarian; doesn't eat chicken, etc.). The food is delicious, and I would definitely recommend trying the Pad Thai. Booking is also available online, which makes it more convenient. Although, it is worth noting that there are particular dinner 'seatings' (i.e. 6pm; 8pm; 10pm), but more information is available in the website. Overall, this is a great new Adelaide restaurant that I would definitely recommend.

The remains of our roti - very delicious but we were also served a lot of food!!

The selections of wine were brilliant, the staff were friendly although there was slight problems with communication as the waitresses english was not great. We had the vietnamese spring rolls, chi special fried rice, pad thai, crispy choo chi barramundi extra spicy, roast duck in tamarind sauce and fried ice-cream for dessert. The main courses were amazing, constantly surprising us. The spring rolls were made in-house and probably the best spring rolls I've had in Adelaide. The crispy barramundi was also extremely good, the coconut was not overwhelming but the creamy texture was still maintained in the sauce. The stand out dish though was definitely the roast duck in tamarind sauce. When my father choose this item (we have a system where everyone chooses a dish and we share), I have to tell you I was skeptical. All the previous dishes with tamarind that I have tried is generally in indian food - where it is in the form of a chutney or mixed with spices where its taste is lost. The sweetness of the tamarind remains but is not overpowering and is accompanied with citrus flavours and star of anise. The dessert, fried rice and pad thai were nice but a little overpriced. Although the food at this restaurant was excellent, it is slightly overpriced for some of the meals. I can't wait to go back! I think I'll try some of their specials next time.

I ordered the Laksa, and loved every bit of it. It was only after I received my Laksa that I noticed a Laksa on at least eight other tables - it's definitely an option that I would recommend! So fresh, so much flavour and not too much coconut milk - perfect! The service was super friendly and quite fast for a Friday night, although the tables were really close to each other that it seemed a bit crammed. I'll definitely visit again. Danny's Thai Bistro is a great casual dining option on The Parade.

Are you one of those people who orders the same old meal every time you go to a restaurant? Well,…read moreI'm not.....usually. I add the caveat for this review because, while I normally class myself in the "menu adventurer" class - I mean I'm practically the Marco Polo of food, I will try ANY new food once and without hesitation - there is something about Danny's salt and pepper squid that gives me complete menu tunnel vision. It's SO good, I order it, almost without thinking, every single time I eat there. Before I know it, the menu has been whisked away, I have a beer in front of me, and I realise my mouth has somehow ordered the same thing, yet again, of its own accord. Have I become an old person? Why do I do this? Let me explain. Salt and pepper squid is one of those culinary dishes claimed by multiple cuisines: equally at home on a pub menu as a Chinese banquet. EVERYONE thinks they can do it - but few actually can with any élan. I've had bland squid, tough squid, chewy squid, spicy squid, big squid, small squid, red squid, blue squid... you get the idea. But when it is done right - and as you may have guessed, Danny's do it right - it is one of the most enticing, tastebud pleasing dishes on the planet. Many try, Danny's succeeds. For this reason alone I give an enthusiastic 4 star/ yay! I'm a fan rating. There is actually a lot to recommend on the menu in addition to the squid (I always go in a group and have several dishes to share), in particular the chef's specials, which regularly includes a spicy crocodile dish that is amazeballs. If I had to knock off that one star, it's that the serving sizes are certainly not huge. And this is coming from a petite chick: big guys would have no chance of being full on one main/ entree. My advice: order several starters and dishes to share, it's more economical and you're more likely to get your fill. Opening hours are "till late" every day, which is generally around 10 - 10:30pm depending on how busy it is. I may have mentioned this already, but the salt and pepper squid is pretty good.

The pastry is perfect; the stuffing is delicious and just spicy enough. The spring rolls are also a must. For mains, you have to try the satay tofu. Now I am a picky tofu eater, I have tried tofu from almost every Asian restaurant in Adelaide. This tofu is good. It is cooked to perfection, the sauce is peanuty, slightly spicy and delicious to soak up with a pile of steamed rice. The service is great, the owner always greets us when we go in and makes sure we are being looked after well. I did have the privilege of eating here once, however, and I was extremely pleased with both the meal and the service. The laksa noodles are freakin' awesome. Laksa noodle soup isn't exactly as difficult as making souffle, but Madame Wu's interpretation of this classic Malaysian dish is miles ahead of some of the others I've tried in and around town. It's a little pricier, but your taste buds will thank you for it. The customer service is also great, but because of the constant barrage of customers, you might feel a little ignored every once in a while. But never fear, they'll tend to you eventually with friendliness. Don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table if you don't have a reservation, this place is always filled to the brim. I've come by many times hoping to be seated, but was told to wait up to half an hour My advice - book in advance!
