Such a cute little candy shop that the kids just loved. A great selection to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. Although the kids gravitated towards the more commercialized candies (Pez and Jolly Ranchers) hubby got these amazing little dark chocolate salted caramels. The staff was very friendly and patient with the kids. Love the charm of the small and great way to end our visit to Oatman.

The last stop on the Oatman ghost town tour ( http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gold-rush-candy-shoppe-oatman?select=zsurpzJf_Oew58fPTivoSQ ) takes us to the Gold Rush Candy Shoppe. One of the first draws about this place wasn't the idea of sweet treats, but rather, was the sign ( http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gold-rush-candy-shoppe-oatman?select=0pJGqTT8kZ6XaFyu98lZJQ ) on the entrance to the shop. On our visit, the temperatures were mild (for the desert), but during the summer this is going to be a prime place to go to escape the insane heat. Their motto should be: Come in for the air conditioning and stay for the dental bill! We were warmly greeted by the staff once we entered the shop and the table with their homemade candies ( http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gold-rush-candy-shoppe-oatman?select=yGh_2-JZzMKUKtuHRHVY2Q ) was front and center. After getting a very enthusiastic recommendation from the staff, the better half and I picked out two bags of the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels. Laina also grabbed a Dark Pecan Caramel Turtle and a bag of Rum Balls. After we were done with the homemade table, we moseyed into the back of the shop ( http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gold-rush-candy-shoppe-oatman?select=hfFP3TxZHiRq43E8B-pOrw ) where all the commercial candies are located. This room was stocked full of taffy, old fashion sticks and plenty of other items to satisfy your sweet tooth. With a good mix of old (bubble gum cigars) and new (M&M Light Saber dispensers) it was hard to narrow my choices. In the end, I grabbed some Boston Baked Beans, several flavors of taffy and a bag of Gold Mine Nugget Bubble Gum (which I have seen in about 35 years). Here is what the entire haul looked like: ( http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gold-rush-candy-shoppe-oatman?select=n-uFarSFmqU_ZJqf6cqDLA ) There is also a small refrigerator near the entrance and this shop has the cheapest bottled water in town (75 cents), which makes this shop a must stop during the summer months! The staff was very friendly, helpful and pointed some of the more popular items to us. A humorous moment came with I was grabbing the second bag of sea salt caramels and subconsciously stuck the bubble gum in my front pocket. I immediately realized what I had done, pulled the bag and made a comment to the affect of "What the hell was I thinking?!" which garnered a "get a rope" reaction from the shop staff. Rohlinism: No better business hook in the desert than cold water and air conditioning! The candy was mostly hits with a miss or two mixed in. The biggest hit was the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels. The combination of dark chocolate, sea salt and caramel was sweet and savory perfection. The slightly bitter chocolate and sea salt balanced out the sweetness from the chewy caramel. Laina isn't a sweet and savory person, but we agreed this was a strong contender for the best candy ever. My better half even plotted to take my last two caramels while I was unaware ... for shame! Laina said the Dark Pecan Caramel Turtle was good, but not in league with the caramels. We both tried the Rum Balls and were disappointed with the overall flavor and perhaps they were a little too nutty. The Boston Baked Beans had a nice crunchy shell and the peanuts weren't stale which means they haven't been sitting around since the turn of the last century. As far as the taffy goes, my favorites were the watermelon, huckleberry and maple bacon. The others were kind of nondescript insomuch as I don't even remember the flavors. I am saving my Gold Mine Nugget Bubble Gum in the hopes it will eventually turn into real gold. I didn't find the prices extremely overboard (I think the total was just over $18.00 and included a bottled water) and it brought back some good childhood memories of attempting to rot out all my teeth before I hit puberty.

We visited the town of Oatman to check it out and see the burros. Stumbled upon this cute and colorful little candy shop filled with lots of different types of candy. Some old favorites, some homemade. Very yummy. My favorite was the homemade caramels. Very chewy and delicious. Also bought the milk chocolate seam foam, rocky road fudge, German chocolate milk chocolates (Yum!), black licorice caramels, and a few other things. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely visit again. :)

Loved it! Besides candy they have honey and preserves. We should have bought more.

The 3 of us had a terrible experience in this place with the owner named Sharen Or Sharel and we…read morewill never go back to that store again . It was on 3-22-2025 in the morning . This woman whom we learned later she was the owner , did not seem to be honest , rude, pushy and impatient and here is what happened At first everything was going smooth when we were dealing with a sales girl named ( Gen ) . (Gen) was very nice and she took her time to show us where certain vitamins are in the store since this was our first time in this store . ( Gen ) was helping my roommates, Grace who is elderly and he son Stephen who is disabled and me. After Gen answered our questions , we ended up paying (Gen) who also happened to be the cashier a little over $ 110.00 in vitamins and other stuff. Then when we asked ( Gen) a question , (Gen) said to us that the lady whom later we learned that she was the owner knows more than her about vitamins , So I walked up to the owner and I asked her that we need help , I was asking her where I can find a tea tree oil and what it does for the body . The owner picked one bottle for me and gave it to me and I went to the cashier , ( gen ) and I pay for it too . I looked at the tea tree oil bottle and I realized that I was paying for a tester bottle , which I saw the word, Tester , written on the bottle. I point this out to the owner but I noticed that the owner got upset when I said that and she told (Gen) to go inside to get me a different bottle . ( Gen )came back and said they don't have any more of the size that I wanted . Then I decided not to buy the tester . but I wondered why she tried to sell me a tester but I did not say anything . Then Grace asked the owner , if she could show Grace a couple of things , all of a sudden, this owner who seemed extremely impatient and pushy whom we felt as if she was rushing us to buy and leave . As Grace was expressing to the owner what she wanted , the owner said t to Grace that she does not have time and she has to go and she said that this will be the extent of her help to Grace . Then the owner said to Grace out of the blue, , aren't you a nutritionist, the owner said to Grace , then you should know what you want , Grace responded, I never said I am a nutritionist , I said to the owner , I was here and Grace never said she was a nutritionist . Grace said to the owner, I am only asking you a question because (Gen ) told us to ask you . The owner walked away from us and refused to help . we tried to reason with her so she can help Grace because Grace who had 2 strokes in the past really needed those vitamins , but the owner refused to help us even though we just paid over $110.00 in vitamins . We felt that this owner only wanted us to buy things and just leave without asking her anything . We were not familiar with this store because this was our first time there . At that point Grace said to the owner to cancel all the purchased Items and we returned the items . Grace said to me that I am not giving her any business because she is rude and she really does not seem to care about us as customers with the way she has been treating us . As I was leaving, I told the owner that she has really an attitude and we left . I guess all the owner wanted was someone just to buy , buy and buy and not ask her any questions before they buy.
