Yesterday afternoon, I came back to Cupcakes by Jan after nearly a month. Again, another great treat! It's so nice to have a friendly treat store here. Taking Jan's advice, I got one of her lemon cupcakes and also a white chocolate bar too, and I am not overstating it when I say that was the best lemon cupcake I have ever had. It was super delicious, and it had a lemon paste in the middle of the frosting. Super delicious! The white chocolate bar was also very tasty as well, it just melts into your mouth. Service was top-notch. It's a small store, and with a very kind lady like her it works out perfectly. I couldn't decide what I wanted and she was very patient with me, she is really such a sweet lady. It's nice to go here and have a chat and get A-plus cupcakes instead of just going to a grocery store and getting those B-minus cupcakes. Inside was just a tiny corner shop off of the road. Don't be fooled, it's not just the delicious treats in there, there's some of these things that are actually kinda funny. As you enter, you can see these makeup bags or something alike with pictures of dogs or other things. I even got a German Shepherd bag last trip! There's also these notebooks with funny jokes on them. I thought it was pretty nice. I think I don't have to say much, but Cupcakes by Jan is exactly what a cupcake place needs to be. Jan's cupcakes is my go to place to give thank you gifts to my local real estate vendors. All of those vendors love the thank you cupcakes. Came in for a little something for our dad. We picked out two cupcakes. I wish I had taken a picture but we got the red velvet and the lemon blueberry. Both were beautiful and delicious. Kingman is lucky to have a dessert place like Cupcakes for Jan! When you step into her store, it can feel a bit overwhelming, because it's like stepping into dessert heaven! I expected the store to have a small display of cupcakes, but I was wrong. She's got everything: cupcakes, pies, cakes, cookies, macarons, cream puffs, and yes even jewelry! For my first visit, I got the Assorted Cupcakes Box. They were all delicious and each cupcake you eat just leaves you wanting more! I'm definitely coming back. We happened into this place by accident. WOW! Go here. It is awesome. We talked to the owner and she is a retired exec pastry chef from a major casino hotel. Luckily, I do not live close by. I would be broke and obese! I had the lemon raspberry cupcake and it lasted for 2 different desserts. If you are cruising kingman on route 66 give her a try. Highly reccomended. read more

(Review is from earlier in the year before covid-19 was everywhere) Though the name is called Cupcakes By Jan, there are way more than cupcakes here. You can also purchase cookbooks, jewelry, sandwiches, soups, other types of desserts, and more. Honestly, not what I expected because I was expecting only cupcakes, but it was great to look around at everything. The only downside are the hours. It's 7 am to 5 pm daily except Sunday when they're closed, so the only time I could visit was on Saturday when I wasn't working. I purchased a cinnamon roll cupcake with cinnamon cream cheese, a white cupcake, and a cheese danish. They were absolutely delicious. I think I'm tied between the cinnamon roll cupcake and the cheese danish. Good thing I can just purchase both and not have to decide on one or the other. It's been awhile since I've gone back to Kingman, but the next time I swing around, I'll visit Cupcakes By Jan. There's more cupcakes and food I want to try out! read more

Stopped by this cupcake shop when visiting Kingman. First of all I wish the outside looked better. If you were driving by there is nothing to draw your attention. It was even hard to tell what it was. This inside of the place was pretty cute. They have plenty of different kinds of cupcakes and some other pastries. They also sell some other little things, looks like to make the place seem less empty. There is a back seating room that is pretty nice. There is a charming feel to it. We purchased several different cupcakes. The vanilla and chocolate were pretty dry and disappointing. The carrot was good and the pink one had great texture, moist and good flavor. Overall we did enjoy this shop even though several of the cupcakes are disappointing from being dry. I think with some recipe changes this place can be a lot better. If you are using box mixes I would recommend adding pudding mix to it, which will make them incredibly moist. read more

I was getting my kicks on Route 66, but then veered off the path to see what was kicking on Stockton Hill. I spotted the word 'Cupcakes' before anything else. Cupcakes by Jan. I had to stop, but after the fact of putting out $32 plus tax for a dozen treats, I should have kept on driving. These cupcakes may have been baked at home, but they are not homemade. The lemon flavored cup tasted like yellow cake mix. The plain cup tasted like angel food cake mix. The "spicy" apple cup was not in the least bit spicy and tasted like cake mix. The brownie tasted like cake mix. The carrot cake cup was the most disappointing. I tasted no carrots what so ever. Need I go on? If you want to support a local Kingman business, then by all means spend the $2.69 per cake, but in my opinion it's not worth making a special for. You just might end up as disappointed as I was. read more

Stopped by while we were in Kingman today & will definitely come back to this cute little shop! It was a great atmosphere and the nice lady working here was such a sweetheart. Oh and it smelled so sweet & wonderful that I wanted to buy the entire store. I managed to control myself tho and only left with a Boston Cream, Ding Dong & Yellow sprinkle cupcake to bring home for my kids & a strawberry cream cheese danish for me & hubby to try in the car. Also some adorable chocolate turtles filled with caramel and pecans. We loved everything! I especially loved that the cupcakes were a healthy jumbo size, they were light and airy and nothing was overly heavy or sweet. Oh my gosh! Moved in next door, saw the sweet(pun intended) cupcake sign. Within 5 minutes a guy from Vegas pulled next to me and said you gotta get some cupcakes! They are the best! I had already planned to, how can you not get 1? Igot3! I just had the yellow cake, white frosting, chocolate drizzle, cherry stuffed cupcake! What were those things in the cherry goo? Will be back next time we make a day trip to Kingman. We ordered about half a dozen cupcakes and they were all good. The chocolate ones though were a little dry. There is a variety of flavors which is nice. The cupcakes are standard muffin size and price wise it is not expensive. If the owner is reading this, I suggest changing the yelp price from $$ to only $. Your shop and prices is very affordable and having that $ would have your bakery show up more when people are looking for cheaper places to eat at. read more

No day old anything as Ms. Jan donates all day old items to the Cornerstone Mission to help feed the homeless. Maggie the pup is cute. I had the clam chowder soup bread bowl. Howard had the ham sandwich. The clam chowder was delicious. It was served in a bread bowl. Very good chowder Howard had a ham sandwich in a croissant. He loved it. I followed up with a lemon bar. Yummy yummy yummy, so good I brought one home. We leave Jan's baked goods. She has one of the best cinnamon rolls we have ever had. This is my second review of this place. Jan is way more than just cupcakes, so don't let the name just pass you by. Let the name intrigue you to stop by and see just what the "more" is. My bride and I stopped in for a danish, some baklava, and coffee. Sat in a beautiful relaxed dining area, had some quaint one-on-one conversation and even visited with the talented Jan herself. Hold onto your hats, there's a 5-star experience in Kingman. If you've spent any time there, you are as shocked as I am. I noticed Jan's as I was driving by, and my mom gave her high marks. But I left it at that. But then I found 2 cupcakes in my Easter basket. Yes I'm 45 and still get an Easter basket. You don't? Then your mom sucks. Back to my review...one was cream filled and topped with orange icing and one was chocolate with strawberry icing. Unfortunately, Lent was over and my husband was back on sweets and I had to share. But these were good sized cupcakes, so sharing wasn't terrible, just not preferable. The cakes were super moist and fresh. The icing was the perfect amount, and not overly sweet, yet not that horrific not sweet at all crap that tastes like someone piped a pound of butter on your cake. It had a very nice light texture. We also got two mini pies...lemon and cherry. Both were good, but I think Jan really shines in the cupcake arena. Hopefully, there's enough appreciation for her product that people will spend a little more here, rather than settle for Safeway. read more

So, I have already written a review on here for Jan, but I needed to update the viewers on how the wedding went. Again, she did not disappoint. She took the time to carefully plan the presentation. The set up was a little girl's dream; making cards for each one of the particular cupcakes with detailed descriptions and placing them on glass boxes and under individual cake stands. The guests, even from various cities nationwide were astounded. Everyone raved on the uniqueness and taste. Aromas filled the Hualapai Mountains with Banana Cream with a Graham Cracker Crust, Chocolate Raspberry with a Grand Marnier filling, Pineapple Coconut Rum, and Strawberry Mousse just to name a few. Decor was cute and the staff was friendly. One star for each. The carrot cake cupcake and icing tasted like they came from a mix and had a mix texture as well. Cupcakes are a box mix and same goes for cakes. Their not made from scratch. Their not made fresh daily, she freezes/refrigerates them. The sodas are expired and she still sells them. The pastry's half are home made and the other half are bought at a store. The pies are frozen and never home made. There's mold in the spatulas but she still uses them. Owner is not a friendly lady. Not impressed. I mean I make my own homemade frosting and pastries and if I had to guess this place is using mixes and canned product and calling it there own. Absolutely fantastic cupcakes, pastries, and coffee. I make a habit of finding a cupcake place everywhere I travel, and Jan's tops places in Vegas, Kansas City, and elsewhere. Her bearclaws, cinnamon rolls, and scones are some of the best I've ever had. My wife and I are there almost every week. Now she makes excellent fresh bread too! The cupcake selection has some consistent options, but there's always a flavor you haven't tried yet. Add to all that one of the kindest, most friendly proprietors in town and you have a cozy bakery that Kingman is lucky to have. read more
