They just came in…read moreyesterday & even though my eyes are no longer used to foreign objects clinging to them, I'm thrilled with the service & speed of Lens Lab. The employees are so friendly & helpful, & I did not find myself being pushed to spend more or buy more. I was buying these without any insurance coverage, since I my insurance only allows either glasses or contacts within one cycle. So, exam was $65 with the purchase of a year's supply of lenses. They have some 1 year for $29 deal, but I have astigmatism in one eye, so I never qualify for such bargains. The woman in charge was apologetic about that & when I expressed that I didn't have a lot to spend, she dropped the required year for me & said 6 months would be fine. I was still concerned about the costs, & the optometrist who examined me noticed this, so he gave me a full exam & then sat down with me & the manager to go through exactly what it would cost. With my expensive, gimpy eye, the price was still a little steep for me, & she ended up dropping another $100 or so. What has often been quoted to me for around $500+ was about $250 in total. The price was obviously a huge plus for me, but even if she could not have gone lower, I would have liked this place enough for 4 stars. The staff was so friendly & made me feel so comfortable with asking questions & taking my time. I've had such pushy, rude experiences at other lens stores, & this was the complete opposite. The store is located in the K-Mart plaza on White Plains Rd. I don't know what insurance they accept, but it was great for a no-insurance situation.

If a customer is asking questions not sure of things you don't just walk away to continue eating your lunch & return chewing in their face. This woman seemed so bothered by my questions it was unbelievable. I don't work in the eyeglass industry & I'm spending $300 the least you could do is answer the questions. They should really get rid of all the staff at the counter & I would give them more stars. Also before you give them your voucher (if you have insurance find out the prices of everything first. They will come up with all sorts of fees if you don't know any better. You would probably do better getting a groupon/living social deal for $35 dollars. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DONT COME HERE

Prices for exams are fair, but rather high for contacts. Better off getting the Rx, but buying the contacts elsewhere. Title: Predatory Billing, Retaliation, and Complete Lack of Transparency!…read more Avoid this establishment at all costs, especially if you are a union worker relying on your benefits. Flatbush Optical on Flatlands Ave and Dr. James Kim engage in severe deceptive business practices and predatory billing schemes designed to exploit consumers and drain insurance allowances. This doctor and Flatbush Optical are a stain on the community and they are predators. Do Not frequent this business. I visited this provider explicitly requesting union-covered frames and standard progressive lenses under my United Federation of Teachers (UFT) benefit package, which contractually guarantees a $0 out-of-pocket balance. Instead of honoring this clear instruction, they attempted to force an illegal balance-billing scheme upon me, hitting me with unauthorized upcharges and unrequested premium lens add-ons.When I demanded a clear, transparent, line-by-line itemized receipt to see why I was being charged, they flatly refused to provide financial transparency. They intentionally hid the billing breakdown from my sight to prevent an official paper trail of their predatory pricing structure. Worse yet, I later discovered they surreptitiously locked and exhausted both of my optical certificates, submitting a fraudulent $600 invoice to my insurance provider for products and premium modifications I never consented to or signed for!To add insult to injury, the owner actively withheld my legal prescription until I threatened to contact New York State regulatory boards. Even after taking half of an unauthorized payment from my debit card, they tried to claim it was an "innocent mistake"--only after being caught. Most maliciously, on August 31, 2026, to retaliate against me for filing a legitimate chargeback claim with my bank and reporting their misconduct to the UFT Welfare Fund and General Vision Services (GVS), the doctor went into the system and filed a claim that has now locked my benefits and made me completely ineligible for glasses for the entire year. Because of this systemic fraud and ongoing retaliation, I have filed formal complaints against them with multiple regulatory agencies, including the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (Case #020967-2026-CMPL), and escalated the matter to state licensing boards. GVS has already verified their overcharges and calculation errors on their end.Protect your insurance certificates and your wallet: stay away from Dr. James Kim and this corrupt storefront. (Please note to readers: This predatory location is separate from Flatbush Eye Care at 1054 Flatbush Ave).

Why is it always the staff?! Don't they know the front office is representative of the doctor? Most people have to deal with them more than the doctor. They made 3 mistakes and truly pissed me off. One, they quoted me $100 for my contacts but they were actually free because of my insurance. Two, they never called me when my contacts came in. So when I finally called to get an update they said they did call me but I quickly said I never got a call nor a voicemail. She never ever uttered an apology. An apology would have diffused my irritation. Three, I specially asked what time they closed and she said 6pm. I arrived there a little before 5:30pm (they are a 30 minute walk from my house) and they were completely closed for the day. I called the next day, and told the same girl what happened and yet no apology yet again! The customer service is truly horrible but the doctor really makes up for it. There were only 2 girls working there the last time I was there so I'm not sure who I spoke with but these girls really need some manners.
