Nonetheless we bought a few cards and lesser priced things, only to be treated so rudely at check out. The owner (or cashier, we don't know), didn't even look us in the eye as she rang up our orders. She never said hello, goodbye, or thank you. It was so dismissive. We rang up our orders at different times, but by the time we met back on the street to find our car, we were like; "was that woman a bitch or what!!!" We both had the same experience. So much for that shop, there are others..........YUCK, forget it.

I opted to not try them on as the fitting rooms/lighting were not flattering or comfortable. Upon purchase, I was informed they were on sale, fabulous! My friend and myself chatted up the sales person and she brightened up a bit. I arrived home, excited to try on my new purchase. Sadly, they were really poor quality and itched something fierce! I made my way back into the store a week later to learn that not only could I not return them but all sale items are final sale and I could not receive a store credit either. I was dumbfounded. I explained I didn't understand this to which the same grumpy sales person pointed to a sign located at the height of my knees that all sale item were final sale. Jake and his wife find exceptional Japanese collectables -- furniture, kimonos, fabrics, ceramics, sculptures -- and oh so much more. There are always very interesting items at very, very good prices. So far, we've been lucky enough to get a very large tanzu, 2 beautiful screens (one unusual one from the 1930s that features silver leaf as the background with collage elements forming the characters), several mirrors, Buddhist sculptures, a metal pagoda for the garden, and lots of fabrics and kimonos! If you enjoy Japanese antiques, you really can't go wrong. On our last trip, 3 of our friends came along from the Berkeley area, and were amazed at the quality and prices. Not to mention how helpful and nice all of the people there are -- including Jake, who is very knowledgeable! Highly, highly recommend Kodo Arts!

You have items ranging from post cards, aprons, magnets, cups, shirts, toys and hats ALL with a funny twist to them. You will also find a couple Nevada City novelty items (hats, shirts, magnets, and stickers). The customer service was extremely friendly and helpful! Definitely worth stopping in and supporting the local town.
