My husband and I stopped in on our way for a cocktail at The Mine Shaft and we spent almost $100! This lovely store is packed with all kinds of terrific gifts for almost anyone. We found some great cards, a couple of games and I pointed out some lovely earrings for my husband to "surprise" me with on my birthday in May! The owner, Stuey (pronounced Stoo-Eee) was super friendly and we found out that we have a common friend, which was nice. read more

Excellent gift shop. The owner is super sweet. You'll find lot of fun stuff in here from greeting cards to unique gifts for the hard-to-find friend, lover, or relative in your life. I got some cool coin purses and a decorative match box. My friend got a travel book on the Sierra Nevada. Very cool shop. A must stop when in Nev. City Cal. read more

What a great store! You walk in and automatically your eyes are flying around everywhere trying to take in all the different items and funny adult humor that is written on everything! You have items ranging from post cards, aprons, magnets, cups, shirts, toys and hats ALL with a funny twist to them. You will also find a couple Nevada City novelty items (hats, shirts, magnets, and stickers). The customer service was extremely friendly and helpful! Definitely worth stopping in and supporting the local town. read more

I've been meaning to "report back" to the owner (as she demanded =) like a best friend) after she helped me choose gifts for a 3, 6 and 9 year old girls, my nieces, for a quick trip to Phoenix. HER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR KID GIFT GIVING WAS BEYOND perfection. I don't like kids myself, but if they're family, it's forced love lol. From pop-its, to secret uv pens lights, boba key chains and much more --- all recommended by the lovely owner --- were a hit. The girls loved everything. My only mistake is I should have bought 3 of each, kids can't share and the whining ensued. I should have known. Hands down this is the best shop to buy gifts for all ages. As a local, this is my main stop to buy gifts for others. She literally has anything/ everything ---- even for that person who is hard to buy a gift for. You'll find something, and if you need assistance/advice on WTH to buy, her advice is spot on. Thank you for being the best literally gift shop in the area. Can't wait to come back! read more

FUN FUN FUN store filled with folk arty stuff, wind up toys, earrings, irreverent, quirky, hilarious, un-PC cards, books, signs and toys to satisfy the wackiest part of you. Kit Kat clocks (cat clocks with rolling eyes and wagging tails) in every color possible, hanging party lights in strings of maneki nekko cats, chili peppers, hula girls, etc. Dia de los Muertos figures, tons of Archie McPhee type stuff and things you never knew you wanted,ie like a set of racing grannies in walkers, wearing tennis shoes. Owner is sweet and fun loving. We went there two days in a row! read more

This store IS Stewie. Stewie is the wonderful owner of this very politically incorrect fun fun fun store! It is as colorful as Stewies brightly multi-colored hair. I have known Stewie and her shop since the early 80's, when it was on another street. She moved to her new location about a year ago with more room for fun stuff. It will take you hours just to see it all. The store is not that big, but it is jammed full of all kinds of cool, tacky, kitchy, some slightly racy things! From fab tin lunch boxes to refrigertor magnets on how to do a vasectomy! Car freshners such as Jesus the parking Saint, to don't vote repooplican! Showing an elephant taking a dump. Now you get it? Go there, if around there, and tell Stewie Christine says hi! read more

Very good good with an equally very good good selection of items, would recommend visiting

I love this store! The owner is friendly and helpful. She offers a great variety of fun items! She has amazing jewelry as well!

Dragged the family in, then couldn't get them to leave! Wonderfully procured shop, and who knew I could find all my Dia de los Muertos needs in Nevada City? Bought a silly book, an art piece to go in my ofrenda, and a ridiculous Tootsie Roll air freshener. But could have bought the store out....jewelry, sunglasses - you name it, they've got it. Fantastic! And sweet, lovely woman who works there! read more

Holy CRAP,.....I cant believe I didnt YELP this place sooner, but Nevada City didnt seem to be on the YELP radar a few months/years back. MY BAD (Sorry Stewie!!) I love this store so much that I have to avoid it....she has the coolest stuff, funny as ASS stuff that you could never find anywhere else. I split my time between Nevada City and the bay area, and still this place has stuff I have never seen! PLUS, the jewelry, oyyy.....dont even get me started. Its overwhelming and fabulous. I seriously would prefer shopping here more than any other store anywhere, EVER!!!!!! I send every friend that comes into town there IMMEDIATELY, its beyond fun!!!!!!!!!! read more

I have received many gifts from this fabulous shop because my daughter loves it. And I've given many gifts from this shop because the selection is fun, well chosen and hilarious. The customer service is excellent, kind, loving and attentive. Stewie is the genius of this magical menagerie and she makes it an absolute pleasure to visit The Gray Goose. That's why it's always packed with people. I have more fun shopping here than anywhere -- and I live in Los Angeles. Don't miss out. read more

Stewie! Reggie! Toys! Jewelry! Knick-knacks! Gee-gaws! If you don't find something to make you smile at Gray Goose, there's something not right with you. read more

I love The Gray Goose! It's stocked with stuff you never thought you would see...yet you're glad you did. There is an abundance of quirk here. The lady who was working there at the time(forgot her name) was AWESOME! She knew what she was doing! If you're easily repulsed by the unconventional and strange, go away. No one wants you here, anyways. read more

The Gray Goose is a great place for small gifts, gag gifts, stocking stuffers, holiday gift exchange items, or to just kill some time. And apparently everyone in Nevada City thinks it's a great place too because it is always packed in here. They have packed so many racks and shelves in here that it is extremely difficult to move through the store without bumping into something or someone. Some of the racks are placed in awkward locations that make them hard to get to. And some of the items on the lower shelves can't be seen because there's no room for you to bend down. I hardly ever end up buying anything here because I just don't want to deal with the whole checkout process. I usually do a run through, get thoroughly annoyed having to wait for other people to move, and then promptly get out of there. So then why 3 stars? Because I always come here when I get the chance, I like coming here to look around, I like what they have to offer, and I like that they are a local business. I think they would be much better off moving to larger shop (I know this location is larger than the last one, but I think it's time for another upgrade). read more

What the crap!?! Have you ever asked yourself "where would I even find something like that"? Well ask no more, because you can find it here! This is like a "grown up" version of Spencer's but better. The place is chocked full of wacky, zany, and weird stuff you never knew you had to have. read more

Cute little eclectic gift shop with toys, games, books and jewelry. The shop owner/manager is very sweet and she has an adorable fluffy white and wonderful dog with a similar disposition. iI can spend hours in this place. Everyone and everything has a great sense of humor and personality. Absolutely awesome.

There is nothing I can say to describe The Gray Goose except that it is AMAZING.... unless you are a conservative stick in the mud who gets offended easily!! Stewie and Jana are rockin' & if I ever grow up, I want to be as cool as they are! If you can't find a gift here, for yourself OR someone else, then you have issues and should stick to Target gift cards! read more

Like the Archie McPhee catalog, this store just is the best for the off-beat, whacky, unique, humorous misc. items and I have to show great restraint when I make my yearly visit to the store or I would be greatly fiscally compromised! I almost purchased "What your Poo is Telling You" but instead went for the Angry Girl "nice wallet....get your own, bitch" wallet, as I knew that if I left the shop with out it, the angy little girl on the wallet cover would haunt me the rest of the camping trip. The very fact that she is carrying Gumby dolls makes me give this shop ten stars, but yelp only allows me five. read more

Wonderful variety of kooky, artsy and downright breathtaking stuff n things. I always shop here for birthday presents, gag gifts and simply out of curiosity to see what new oddities Stewie has found to adorn her sweet store with. This store is like a collection of every strange dream I have ever had and I absolutely love it all. If you don't make it in here while in Nevada City, deem your visit a fail. The workers are as fun as the merchandise and the merchandise is pretty friggin' fun. Everything from books, to jewelry, to stationary, to toys, to plates, to key chains, to...well, you get the idea. The adjective "quirky" doesn't even begin to describe some of the products. Some things are hilarious, some strange, some inappropriate, but all awesome. read more

I was here for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival with my partner and friend; we stopped in here for some fun trinkets and the store clerk watched and followed me in her crowded store. She seemed to be more interested in me than her other customers. I had a empty bag of popcorn in my jeans pocket and shoved it down into my jacket and she came out from behind the counter. I know she thought I was trying to steal something. My crew went next door, and let me look around longer by myself. I found some cute decor and as I went up to the counter to pay she started talking at me about how she charges less than people in Santa Barbara. (What? Why?) As I was getting my wallet out to pay at the register, another customer cut in front of me and started to get rung up but I firmly said I was ready to purchase and the clerk continued to ring up the cutter. She said that she thought the other customer and I were together shopping. I told her "No, we aren't," and she went on to ringing up the other customer, and had a completely different demeanor with them in comparison to me. The clerk apologized, by apologizing, I mean she wasn't sincere at ALL. She gladly took my money, and then began to tell me how she charges less for her products. And then as I left she yelled at me to close her door. So I'm definitely not coming here again. She assumed I was going to steal, followed me, rang up another customer instead of me, and made me feel completely unwelcome. I'm career customer service and I would NEVER do this to to my clients. Is this what you call hospitality, Nevada City? read more
