What a great store! You walk in and automatically your eyes are flying around everywhere trying to take in all the different items and funny adult humor that is written on everything! You have items ranging from post cards, aprons, magnets, cups, shirts, toys and hats ALL with a funny twist to them. You will also find a couple Nevada City novelty items (hats, shirts, magnets, and stickers). The customer service was extremely friendly and helpful! I've been meaning to "report back" to the owner (as she demanded =) like a best friend) after she helped me choose gifts for a 3, 6 and 9 year old girls, my nieces, for a quick trip to Phoenix. HER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR KID GIFT GIVING WAS BEYOND perfection. I don't like kids myself, but if they're family, it's forced love lol. From pop-its, to secret uv pens lights, boba key chains and much more --- all recommended by the lovely owner --- were a hit. The girls loved everything. My only mistake is I should have bought 3 of each, kids can't share and the whining ensued. I should have known. Hands down this is the best shop to buy gifts for all ages. My husband and I stopped in on our way for a cocktail at The Mine Shaft and we spent almost $100! This lovely store is packed with all kinds of terrific gifts for almost anyone. We found some great cards, a couple of games and I pointed out some lovely earrings for my husband to "surprise" me with on my birthday in May! This store IS Stewie. Stewie is the wonderful owner of this very politically incorrect fun fun fun store! It is as colorful as Stewies brightly multi-colored hair. I have known Stewie and her shop since the early 80's, when it was on another street. She moved to her new location about a year ago with more room for fun stuff. It will take you hours just to see it all. The store is not that big, but it is jammed full of all kinds of cool, tacky, kitchy, some slightly racy things! I love this store so much that I have to avoid it....she has the coolest stuff, funny as ASS stuff that you could never find anywhere else. The Gray Goose is a great place for small gifts, gag gifts, stocking stuffers, holiday gift exchange items, or to just kill some time. And apparently everyone in Nevada City thinks it's a great place too because it is always packed in here. They have packed so many racks and shelves in here that it is extremely difficult to move through the store without bumping into something or someone. Some of the racks are placed in awkward locations that make them hard to get to. And some of the items on the lower shelves can't be seen because there's no room for you to bend down. I hardly ever end up buying anything here because I just don't want to deal with the whole checkout process. I usually do a run through, get thoroughly annoyed having to wait for other people to move, and then promptly get out of there. So then why 3 stars? Because I always come here when I get the chance, I like coming here to look around, I like what they have to offer, and I like that they are a local business. I think they would be much better off moving to larger shop (I know this location is larger than the last one, but I think it's time for another upgrade). read more

Cute little eclectic gift shop with toys, games, books and jewelry. The shop owner/manager is very sweet and she has an adorable fluffy white and wonderful dog with a similar disposition. I was here for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival with my partner and friend; we stopped in here for some fun trinkets and the store clerk watched and followed me in her crowded store. She seemed to be more interested in me than her other customers. I had a empty bag of popcorn in my jeans pocket and shoved it down into my jacket and she came out from behind the counter. I know she thought I was trying to steal something. My crew went next door, and let me look around longer by myself. I found some cute decor and as I went up to the counter to pay she started talking at me about how she charges less than people in Santa Barbara. (What? Why?) As I was getting my wallet out to pay at the register, another customer cut in front of me and started to get rung up but I firmly said I was ready to purchase and the clerk continued to ring up the cutter. She said that she thought the other customer and I were together shopping. I told her "No, we aren't," and she went on to ringing up the other customer, and had a completely different demeanor with them in comparison to me. The clerk apologized, by apologizing, I mean she wasn't sincere at ALL. She gladly took my money, and then began to tell me how she charges less for her products. And then as I left she yelled at me to close her door. So I'm definitely not coming here again. She assumed I was going to steal, followed me, rang up another customer instead of me, and made me feel completely unwelcome. I'm career customer service and I would NEVER do this to to my clients. Like the Archie McPhee catalog, this store just is the best for the off-beat, whacky, unique, humorous misc. items and I have to show great restraint when I make my yearly visit to the store or I would be greatly fiscally compromised! I almost purchased "What your Poo is Telling You" but instead went for the Angry Girl "nice wallet....get your own, bitch" wallet, as I knew that if I left the shop with out it, the angy little girl on the wallet cover would haunt me the rest of the camping trip. Stewie has an incredible selection of useful, bizarre, and completely hilarious and unnecessary things that just pull on your heart strings to buy buy buy! My last purchase was "In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Big Foot." A hilarious little picture book telling the story of Big Foot's biggest trials in life.
