    Prime Rib Dinner
    Daryl N.

Decently tasty, well priced, and filling Prime rib dinner with many sides. Quick and friendly service. Great ambiance. The restaurant can be a little cleaner with less flies.

Heading to Utah on I-80, we decided on an overnight stay in Elko. My sister ate at the Grille last year and raved about the steak special $10. And free slice of pie. I looked online. No steak special. But a prime rib special $12.99 during the month of March. How bad could it be I'm thinking. We drove over from our hotel using city streets as we wanted to get a feel of Elko. Knowing casinos can be smokey we brought our face masks to screen out the smoke inside the casino. Good thing. It was smokey. We spotted the Grille. We headed over & waited to be seated. It took a few minutes as the dinner hour was just starting. We started with drinks - hubby got a glass of house red cab, 6 oz for $3.50, and I got an Arnold Palmer at $1.50 with free refills. We asked about a bottle of red. Was $25. We passed. Good thing we didn't cuz the cab wasn't very good. Hubby & I both got the prime rib dinner special - medium rare. Both came more medium than medium rare. I didn't care for mine. It was herb crusted but the meat itself wasn't very tender. Hubby said his was good. Mine started to turn gray color in front of my eyes. Or so it seemed. But can't beat the price - $12.99. Came with garlic green beans and choice of baked potato or mashed. After thought - The menu stated warm dinner roll and a side salad. We didn't get either. It was just as well. Our server gave us our tab without offering the free slice of pie. I asked about it. She said came with our dinner. It was cherry tonight. No worries. I love cherry pie. She came back with a small slice of cherry pie in a take out container. I took it to go. And had it back at our hotel. As for our dinner, you know what they say. Get what you paid for. Overall experience- 2 1/2 stars.

I'm usually a big fan of GDW, but tonight was mediocre at best. I ordered the prime rib, as it's usually a sure bet. I ordered it medium, and could tell that it was at well done by looking at it. I cut into the middle to check it, and it was like sawing into the meat. The waitress did take it back and got me a less well done piece. The zucchini (I think) looked like mush. The mashed pots were ok, but the gravy was way over salted. (They weren't very warm, either, as they sat on the same plate while they switched out the meat.) The medium cooked meat was better, but not nearly as good as we previously had there. Hubs said the catfish was pretty gross. He ate a few bites and then dined on his fries and hush puppies. He's definitely not a picky eater and was really looking forward to it, so that says a lot. The server and hostess were both very sweet, and I know they had to ask how everything was, so I almost felt bad about my honest opinion. We probably won't be returning to GDW for a good long while, which is sad because it used to be a favorite place to eat out.

I came to Gold Dust West in Elko to place a Super Bowl bet. As I walked past the restaurant and I realized I was hungry. The breakfast was superb! I am a picky eater and especially picky about my coffee. The coffee was perfect. The hostess who escorted me to my table, and the waitress were both pleasant, efficient and professional. Thank you Gold Dust West for a great breakfast. PS as I was leaving, the waitress asked if I wanted some pie. I guess pie is complimentary after 11:00 am. Good food, great service, and pie. Yum

Stayed across the parking lot while traveling cross country. What a great experience! Casino was strict with Covid regulations., Masks are required at all times except while eating. Pull it up or down for a smoke or drink. Staff very friendly and found it contagious. Playing at a table everyone was friendly. Needed to grab a bite and pit my name on a wait list as capacity is low. Waited about 35 minutes and was worth the wait. Nothing fancy. Looked like a diner. Staff attentive. Food was 100 times better than I expected. Great for the price. Prime rib special came with soup or salad, potato and veggies. Also got a free dessert key lime pie a little sweet but still good. Great stop!

    Great little casino

We arrived early in the evening and the gal that checked us in was not super friendly and did not explain anything about our accommodations (Wi-Fi, Breakfast, etc.). We dropped our stuff & dog into our room and went to dinner. Later that night we got back and our tv remote would not work and we could only get Cinemax. And the bed was nothing but springs. My husband went downstairs to talk to the gal, and I went to get ice. The gal at the front desk said she could move us but did not have any pet rooms available. So, no help. Meanwhile the ice machine was broken and had a note that said to go to the restaurant to get ice. A server was counting at the register and asked me to wait, not an issue. However, that was the only thing she said and seemed put out when she took the ice bucket and brought it back. We went to bar and the bartender came off as rude. We decided that night that we would cancel our reservations for the next night and go somewhere else. In the morning, my husband talked to the Assistant General Manager - Steven W. and he went above and beyond. Our stay the following evening with my sister and her husband was delightful. We both had nice, remodeled rooms and the staff we encountered all seemed to be having a better day. I know the hospitality business can be brutal to work in, but great leadership always shows. This is a BIG shoutout to Steven W., because of you we will be back.

Now this ..THIS is what I'm used to at Red Lion (now, Maverick but it'll ALWAYS be Red Lion to me!)…read more I even have a players card that is SO old, the kind folks at the Players Club cage had never even seen the old infamous "Green Card"! Had to update it to the modern version. I've been a long time frequenter of this place throughout the years.. My son lives here, but I come thru often because I live in Sparks, and this was always my go to up until about 3 years ago, that I had such a tragic experience, I abandoned my room for the 2nd night and stayed at Shutters. NOT anymore! You can read my reviews of "Red Lion" if it's still available, and surely you're reading this updated review for Maverick. WHAT a turn around. First off, I was offered a comp weekend because of my experience a few years back. That particular GM wasn't there, but I called to see if they were still honor a comp room for a night, and despite there being a couple years in between my last visit, they still honored that promise. That spoke volumes. My room, was perfect, exactly what I'm used to with this place. Didn't eat at Aspen this time, just some gambling and cocktails. We started off in the back bar, and I can't remember the nice lady's name, but she was on point. WE gambled and drank a bit, then went and gambled a little bit more, and actually won all of our money back, so we decided to sit in the front bar and just pay for drinks so I didn't give the house back the money hahaha Char (pronounced like 'Cher', not Char-Broil hahaha) was our bartender in the front bar. She actually helped us on the floor also before we sat to drink. It was the day after christmas, and their staff was run wire thin, they were covering the floor and bartending, busting their butts. I've never had an issue with service here, ever. It was cold outside, even snowed overnight. Not a single issue with the AC, despite others complaints. Thank you guys again, for honoring your promise from years past. I'm completely satisfied once again, and now I know the calibers back on point, this once again, will be my go-to, and with my new fancy updated players club card! Our stomachs growled so we both agreed to grab a table for an unplanned breakfast. We hit the jackpot with our waitress Mary, very nice lady. She even surprised us with some unexpected Spanish speaking; I was glad I didn't have to translate for my friend this time. We ordered a $26 Steak-n-eggs plate each which consisted of a portion of hard chewy steak, dry hash browns that felt and tasted like catholic first-communion wafers, 2 eggs and some oddly delicious pancakes (their texture was firmer compared to the conventional, which I enjoyed very much). Mary came to us right after we took our first bite checking if everything was alright. Up to where we were at the moment, we said yes and kept eating. It wasn't until later down the process that we realized we were not enjoying the plate nearly at all. Mary's great service and personality does not match the quality of food served in this restaurant. I really want to go see her again, but I sincerely don't want to eat the food served here. This first sweet and sour experience is now engraved in me, but one experience out of thousands does not define the place, so I suggest you give this place a chance.

So on one of the busiest weeks of the year, I was looking for a replacement six-night stay with two beds in a room, breakfast (ideally) and clean, safe environment. I found it and more at TownePlace Suites, thanks to host Douglas who searched me out a room that would work, hunted down my old Marriott membership number, and reserved the space 'til I could cancel my existing reservation and get myself across town. Though the price point initially set me back on my heels, he won me over with his promise of breakfast, dinners (this week special for Cowboy Poetry Gathering), and a functioning Jacuzzi. (What can I say? It's a long drive out here!) Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by James and another staff member who gave me the rundown. I asked if I could bring my own food down for breakfast "since I have food issues" and James walked me over to the breakfast nook to show off the GLUTEN-FREE and DAIRY-FREE options that are there on the regular, from rolls and muffins to soymilk within arm's reach. In my room, I found a kitchenette complete with clean, cool fridge/freezer, a sink, microwave, dishwasher, dishware and utensils and enough pots and pans to cook on the two burner built-in hotplate/electric stove top. There were two clean, nicely made beds, a clean bathroom, table large enough for four people, and two easy chairs, and more. SOLD! Yes, pricier than others. Yes, in Elko you get what you pay for.

ITS NOT OPEN LATE AND CLOSES PROMPTLY AT 9PM. I could tell the waitress wanted to help or offer food, but was scared to even talk at 9:10. After 9, your only option is outside fast food. They don't even have a list of places at the front desk. The person at registration was nice, and only wanted to help. But she could only suggest fast food. Other Ramadas I've stayed at have a nice list of late night dining options. The room: Well, it's old, but clean. My bed was springy to the point of comedy. Also, it squeaked. Not a problem for the solo traveler, but be aware. The shower handle is hot on the right side. Shouldn't that be reversed? My AC control was also screwed up when I arrived. It was "off". I was told that maintenance was gone and I could switch rooms if I wanted. I decided to wait until after food to do this. I was glad I did. I mentioned it to the security people and those two gentlemen actually found the maintenance manager who was staying bit late and they fixed it. The room cooled to 77 degrees and stayed there. All three of them were super friendly. My suggestion is they get thermostats that linked to a central control so the ac can be turned on from the front desk. TV and coffee machine works. Why does the dresser have an uncovered hole in the top? So, in summary: Hotel: old. Carpets worn. Casino is dated. Rooms: clean, but worn. Get some new mattresses. Staff is friendly and personable.

I forgot to mention it to the staff before we left (I didn't see it until the morning and neither me nor my husband had a cut that would make it ours) so hopefully they see this. My only other complaint is that their pet policy is vague on expedia, it just says "pets welcome" and doesn't give you anywhere to add a pet when you're booking the room. When we checked in they dropped that it was $70 per dog which is wildly high (most hotels are $25-$50/ea) so I really wasn't pleased about that. I go to restroom when my partner returns .when I come back she informs me I need to play to drink ( I'd have gladly paid for my drink I don't gamble but my partner does) but I'm told I have to so I put $20 in the machine ... this machine was at least 20 years old wity the gaming .. fine whatever , but on inspection I'm actually not able to play certain games or pick numbers (keno) or bet Any (I have videos but can't upload ) chosen amount .. it's clear these machines have been out of services or tampered with . When I cashed out an older gentleman asked About the quality of my drink and I explained it was disgusting but my issue was with the service. I'm received no response from him and on way out I saw 3 people now wearing masks(requirement per NV orders) and drinking . Will be reporting to gaming commission for faulty machines and to the health board for violation of mandate . This casino should be closed ..
