The Gold Dust West out here in Elko has a restaurant called The Grille. A lot of people don't know the name and a different yelp listing, so I'm posting here on the Casino listing as a lot of people do for the coffee shop. I'm out here traveling east on the 80 with my crew blasting along the freeway at 80 mph (that's the speed limit here!) and the crew is grumbling about getting some food. They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. VERY HUMILIATED!!!! ... date reference(4-6-26) After driving about 300 miles we were a little tired so we checked in to our hotel(Not GDW) around 6pm we went to the GDW for dinner, upon arrival we went directly to the Grill restaurant, we asked for a booth but upon looking around we could see they were all pretty much filthy along with most of the tables!! Seated ... asked what we would like to drink, we wanted a pre-dinner cocktail and a glass of water ... received our drinks ordered our dinner (prim rib) got our salad... when our dinner arrived we wanted another cocktail with our meal .... promptly told " you have wait 20min" ????? to my surprise I remember my mother telling me to wait 20mins before I went in the pool .... confused I asked why ??? ... no response from what I assumed was a waitress, she then got a manager and the 12yr old told us the same thing with no explanation...now mind you we didn't guzzle down 5 cocktails between being seated and our meal being delivered. I then went to the bar and ordered our dinner cocktail, the bartender asked me who the drinks were for ??? once again I'm thoroughly confused, I told her and she said she would bring them to our table, great ... thank you! .... now our meal is there, and the bartender shows up with our drinks ... but then proceeds to tell us we have to wait 20 mins ... OMG .... WHY!! ... well at this point in time it has been 20 MINS!!! ... Now we feel very humiliated, like being treated as children when were in our 60"s!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! NO EXPLANATION, and were dumbfounded!!! Dinner's over and now were ready to pay our bill... I'M so glad I checked our receipt, they charged us for 2 soups that the party next to us ordered!!! Heading to Utah on I-80, we decided on an overnight stay in Elko. My sister ate at the Grille last year and raved about the steak special $10. And free slice of pie. I looked online. No steak special. But a prime rib special $12.99 during the month of March. How bad could it be I'm thinking. We drove over from our hotel using city streets as we wanted to get a feel of Elko. Knowing casinos can be smokey we brought our face masks to screen out the smoke inside the casino. Good thing. It was smokey. We spotted the Grille. We headed over & waited to be seated. It took a few minutes as the dinner hour was just starting. We started with drinks - hubby got a glass of house red cab, 6 oz for $3.50, and I got an Arnold Palmer at $1.50 with free refills. We asked about a bottle of red. Was $25. We passed. Good thing we didn't cuz the cab wasn't very good. Hubby & I both got the prime rib dinner special - medium rare. Both came more medium than medium rare. I didn't care for mine. It was herb crusted but the meat itself wasn't very tender. Hubby said his was good. Mine started to turn gray color in front of my eyes. Or so it seemed. But can't beat the price - $12.99. Came with garlic green beans and choice of baked potato or mashed. After thought - The menu stated warm dinner roll and a side salad. We didn't get either. It was just as well. Our server gave us our tab without offering the free slice of pie. I asked about it. She said came with our dinner. It was cherry tonight. No worries. I love cherry pie. She came back with a small slice of cherry pie in a take out container. I took it to go. I'm usually a big fan of GDW, but tonight was mediocre at best. I ordered the prime rib, as it's usually a sure bet. I ordered it medium, and could tell that it was at well done by looking at it. I cut into the middle to check it, and it was like sawing into the meat. The waitress did take it back and got me a less well done piece. The zucchini (I think) looked like mush. The mashed pots were ok, but the gravy was way over salted. (They weren't very warm, either, as they sat on the same plate while they switched out the meat.) The medium cooked meat was better, but not nearly as good as we previously had there. Hubs said the catfish was pretty gross. He ate a few bites and then dined on his fries and hush puppies. He's definitely not a picky eater and was really looking forward to it, so that says a lot. The server and hostess were both very sweet, and I know they had to ask how everything was, so I almost felt bad about my honest opinion. We probably won't be returning to GDW for a good long while, which is sad because it used to be a favorite place to eat out. read more

I came to Gold Dust West in Elko to place a Super Bowl bet. As I walked past the restaurant and I realized I was hungry. The breakfast was superb! I am a picky eater and especially picky about my coffee. The coffee was perfect. The hostess who escorted me to my table, and the waitress were both pleasant, efficient and professional. This review is for the "Grille" restaurant only. We don't gamble so I don't have an opinion regarding the casino other than it does have table games I noticed (our local one in Reno only has slots). We frequent the restaurant in Reno for breakfast so as my two adult sons and I were on our way home we stopped in Elko for a meal. The hostess was a hoot. Very funny and friendly. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. I love hash browns very well done and it is super hard to get a restaurant to do this to my satisfaction. The hash browns were a disappointment, but the rest of the meal was really good. Little things you don't realize until you've eaten here like 3 eggs with their breakfast and very thick toast. My older son got a sandwich and my other son got a burger. They both ate all of it. The sandwich looked really good with a swirl rye bread. The burger was smaller than expected. The prices are very reasonable and I will stop again in the future. read more

Stayed across the parking lot while traveling cross country. What a great experience! Casino was strict with Covid regulations., Masks are required at all times except while eating. Pull it up or down for a smoke or drink. Staff very friendly and found it contagious. Playing at a table everyone was friendly. Needed to grab a bite and pit my name on a wait list as capacity is low. Waited about 35 minutes and was worth the wait. Nothing fancy. Looked like a diner. Staff attentive. Food was 100 times better than I expected. Great for the price. Prime rib special came with soup or salad, potato and veggies. Also got a free dessert key lime pie a little sweet but still good. the tightest machines in all of Nevada! I have never been to a casino besides Reservation casinos that are this tight. it's worth the extra drive to Wendover or Reno to play their machines. The machines have high grands which is a signifier that they hardly ever hit. Do Not Recommend playing the slots unless you like to donate. read more

It was nice inside and they give you free play for joining there slot club. The place was well kept with a nice verity of slot machines. There was nothing special but it's close to the exit and easy to get on and off the highway. It's better if your a local because they have nice slot promotion. Just wanted to watch the game. The time we were there it felt like they wanted us to leave. Yes, we placed bets, bought drinks, and food at the establishment. Did not feel welcome or wanted there. We were a part of 2 not even tipsy so not making a scene or being loud. Security acted like we were causing trouble. Then got defensive when we pointed out we were not. Our team won so yay! Lived in the area for over 7 years and had never eaten here. It was surprisingly good, particularly for how cheap it is. Nothing ground breaking, but good basic food for a casino. The service was a little weird. My breakfast companion was older. In spite of being very specific about what he wanted, she really pushed him on the senior version. I found that mildly irritating. He finally told her it was fine, he didn't care, but it shrank an already smallish portion. Other than that she was attentive but not pushy, kept our water glasses full and was generally pleasant. The one thing I had always heard about this place and kept me from going was that the ventilation allows quite a bit of cigarette odor into the restaurant. It does, not intolerable, but it was definitely there. Otherwise it was clean and mostly pleasant, pretty typical casino restaurant with slightly better than average food and service than similar establishments. I'll probably eat there again. I don't gamble, so I can't say much about the slots, other than they were sparkly. read more

On 4/12/23 The Hostess for the restaurant was rude to our party she told us they cannot handle any tables over six people because they only had two cooks even though the restaurant wasn't even busy. asked to speak to the restaurant manager apparently she was out getting pizza asked to talk to someone in charge and they had no idea who was in charge finally we did get to be seated our party was six adults and a three year old child after getting seated the hostess and staff were just by the register laughing and talking about our party then the hostess would pass by the table just giving mean looks. probably should have just went ate somewhere else we have been casino customers for many years at this casino and this had to of bean the worst exp ever. read more

Now that I have eaten at the restaurant, gamed at the tables and machines, and thanks to a friend I was able to partake in the night before lasts VIP buffet, I would have to say I've grown used to the great service and experience provided by Gold Dust West. At the restaurant I have tried the basque burger and the clam chowder on Fridays. I have been telling about everyone how great that burger with chorizo mixed in was! The dealers are always friendly, and the customer service/ cashiers desk, while slow moving at times really does employ some very pleasant customer service representatives. They are most accommodating and have the ability to explain upcoming programs and promotions precise and matter of fact. The other night I cut my finger while taking the wheel off of my bicycle and even the security was accommodating in helping me "clean up." And the VIP buffet; oooh boy. A friend of mine that plays regularly put me on as her guest and I was able to try it. Let me just say that the Italian food buffet was so well prepared, I would say I enjoyed it more than going to the " best Italian food restaurant in town." The slots aren't the loosest in town by any means but the experience so enjoyable it keeps me coming back. read more

I'm glad we went here for dinner. After driving for two days, it was nice to have a good meal. The staff were all friendly, and attentive to our dinning needs. From our server, to the cashier, and the gentleman who asked how our day was. My water glass never went dry, which was important because I am acclimating to the Nevada desert, and dehydrated. We place our order and the blonde waitress just couldn't get the order right. My pancakes were like rubber and his food was supports to have chicken fried steak with biscuit and eggs. We had the most wonderful dining experience here! Traveling back to Reno from Indiana in an RV-we were getting hangry for a decent meal and Gold Dust delivered! There was room for our RV in the parking lot, our steaks were cooked just right-and they came with free shrimp and pie! Our server Sebastian was polite and friendly, and provided excellent service. This is a very good restaurant in which I had the special which was prim rib and shrimp. This included a choice of soup or salad that of which I had their soup of the day. What I had in my plate were peas, fries, lettuce, prime rib, and shrimp. The pease were very dry and weren't that all good but the lettuce was the vegetable that made up for that and so was the shrimp,prime rib, and fries. The prime rib was the right amount of moisture for me being cooked at medium well, and the shrimp were very well cooked and battered. The fries were the average that you could expect though and the service was nice, we ended out on having a free slice of pie since this was the special. I had a strawberry pie and my friends had some peach pie both were delicious and I will sure to come back later when I want some good prime rib. read more
