I'm out here traveling east on the 80 with my crew blasting along the freeway at 80 mph (that's the speed limit here!) and the crew is grumbling about getting some food. They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. Seated ... asked what we would like to drink, we wanted a pre-dinner cocktail and a glass of water ... received our drinks ordered our dinner (prim rib) got our salad... when our dinner arrived we wanted another cocktail with our meal .... promptly told " you have wait 20min" ????? to my surprise I remember my mother telling me to wait 20mins before I went in the pool .... confused I asked why ??? ... no response from what I assumed was a waitress, she then got a manager and the 12yr old told us the same thing with no explanation...now mind you we didn't guzzle down 5 cocktails between being seated and our meal being delivered. I then went to the bar and ordered our dinner cocktail, the bartender asked me who the drinks were for ??? once again I'm thoroughly confused, I told her and she said she would bring them to our table, great ... thank you! .... now our meal is there, and the bartender shows up with our drinks ... but then proceeds to tell us we have to wait 20 mins ... OMG .... WHY!! ... well at this point in time it has been 20 MINS!!! ... Now we feel very humiliated, like being treated as children when were in our 60"s!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! NO EXPLANATION, and were dumbfounded!!! Dinner's over and now were ready to pay our bill... I'M so glad I checked our receipt, they charged us for 2 soups that the party next to us ordered!!! As a local who's getting ready to move to a new state, I decided to stay my last few nights in town…read moreat Maverick Hotel because we had discounted room rates for being locals who gamble at the casino regularly. However, if we didn't have discounted rooms, I'm not sure I would've stayed here. The biggest reason is because they don't have a continental breakfast. I understand that with a coffee shop and a diner in the building they feel like they don't need to maybe? Yet I've stayed at other hotel casinos before and usually if you stay at the hotel they give you a ticket for free breakfast at the casino diners. Maverick does not do that... so be prepared to pay for breakfast in the morning. The other disappointing thing is the outdoor pool. I will forever be partial to hotels that have indoor pools that are open year round. Give me a hot tub, please. Otherwise the rooms are super nice and clean. The showers are hot. The WiFi is free. And our room at least had a working AC and heater unit. I also think it's kind of cool that the rooms have a little balcony that actually opens. The rooms also have a mini fridge and a microwave and a Kcup coffee machine, which are all very nice to have. At the end of the day, we took these rooms because they were so cheap... but the no breakfast really is the biggest bummer.

First off, I was offered a comp weekend because of my experience a few years back. That particular GM wasn't there, but I called to see if they were still honor a comp room for a night, and despite there being a couple years in between my last visit, they still honored that promise. That spoke volumes. My room, was perfect, exactly what I'm used to with this place. Didn't eat at Aspen this time, just some gambling and cocktails. We started off in the back bar, and I can't remember the nice lady's name, but she was on point. WE gambled and drank a bit, then went and gambled a little bit more, and actually won all of our money back, so we decided to sit in the front bar and just pay for drinks so I didn't give the house back the money hahaha Char (pronounced like 'Cher', not Char-Broil hahaha) was our bartender in the front bar. She actually helped us on the floor also before we sat to drink. It was the day after christmas, and their staff was run wire thin, they were covering the floor and bartending, busting their butts. I've never had an issue with service here, ever. It was cold outside, even snowed overnight. Not a single issue with the AC, despite others complaints. Thank you guys again, for honoring your promise from years past. I'm completely satisfied once again, and now I know the calibers back on point, this once again, will be my go-to, and with my new fancy updated players club card! We had a fairly priced room that was big, it was clean, and even had a refrigerator and a microwave. Nothing to complain about, but that's not the best part. The best part is when we left a little trinket behind accidentally and called back several hours later to see if it could be found. Kelsey took our call with a professional, caring approach and said they would look for it. An hour later, she called back to say unfortunately they had not found it. The surprise came when Kelsey called us back two hours after that to say that she had in fact found this little trinket that most people would find insignificant. She went the extra effort and got this returned to us. Sometimes it's the little things that really make a big difference. I will certainly be staying at this hotel anytime I'm in the area! I found it and more at TownePlace Suites, thanks to host Douglas who searched me out a room that would work, hunted down my old Marriott membership number, and reserved the space 'til I could cancel my existing reservation and get myself across town. Though the price point initially set me back on my heels, he won me over with his promise of breakfast, dinners (this week special for Cowboy Poetry Gathering), and a functioning Jacuzzi. (What can I say? It's a long drive out here!) Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by James and another staff member who gave me the rundown. I asked if I could bring my own food down for breakfast "since I have food issues" and James walked me over to the breakfast nook to show off the GLUTEN-FREE and DAIRY-FREE options that are there on the regular, from rolls and muffins to soymilk within arm's reach. In my room, I found a kitchenette complete with clean, cool fridge/freezer, a sink, microwave, dishwasher, dishware and utensils and enough pots and pans to cook on the two burner built-in hotplate/electric stove top. There were two clean, nicely made beds, a clean bathroom, table large enough for four people, and two easy chairs, and more. SOLD! Yes, pricier than others. Yes, in Elko you get what you pay for.

Our room was extremely clean with a microwave, refrigerator, a table for two should you get take out to bring back. The shower head was great, I have long hair so that's important to me. The parking lot was small but it probably holds most patrons each night. Walking distance to many restaurants. They offer coffee in the office with a small continental breakfast options. Considering what chain hotels charge these days, ridiculous, this was a comfortable option.

When I cashed out an older gentleman asked About the quality of my drink and I explained it was disgusting but my issue was with the service. I'm received no response from him and on way out I saw 3 people now wearing masks(requirement per NV orders) and drinking . The shower is beautifully tiled, but weirdly retains the original faucet from when there was a bathtub. The pedestal sink was nice, but the drain plug was clearly broken. There was a continental breakfast, but no tables to eat it at... that kind of thing. The owner seemed great. Everything seemed reasonably clean. For a place to sleep for one night, heading down I-80, it was fine. It might actually be nice, one day if the owner doesn't run out of money, but don't expect the Ritz Carlton.
