The medical staff, PA's, NP and MD's are awesome, my favorite is Dr Patel!!! He's kind, thorough, takes his time, I have never felt rushed by any of the providers! I truly feel heard & seen, something I believe healthcare is lacking, not here though! It's a beautiful and clean facility. And they offer so many different healthcare services. I think it is fabulous that inpatients of the AbilityLab participate in their therapy sessions right alongside the scientists and clinicians who are doing the research. It was fascinating to see, and to get to be a part of that research, if only for a day or two. The facility is world-renown and I have several friends who have been patients at the AbilityLab for intensive rehab, and had great outcomes and only positive things to say. My only mistake was that I accidentally parked in the wrong parking structure- so be sure to look for the correct signage and park only onsite if you want to get the parking validation discount ($15). Thankfully, the understanding manager of the parking structure next door was very kind when I explained that I accidentally parked in the wrong structure, and she approved that I could have the $15 fee instead of the $70 that I was going to be charged! So be sure to park in the correct location, or it could be a very costly visit!! Oh, and the cafeteria!!! Be sure to stop into the cafeteria for a great meal and the view!! Wow. I can't believe the view. There is a chef who prepares a hot meal and I was able to get take-away for my kid: a huge meal of ribs, mashed potatoes and green beans for just $12. Loved the salad bar, too. Very reasonable prices considering the location.

Outside of being in therapy sessions, I was bound to the bed or a chair. The only activity I have outside of the therapy sessions are meals and watching TV. There are occasional group socials. I spent two weeks in inpatient and I feel like I wasted too much time laying in bed or sitting down. They wanted me to stay for a third week but I refused further treatment and went home. I think the inpatient program is more appropriate for individuals who are immobile and live alone - you do get 24 hours of nursing assistance. If you have somebody at home who can assist you then I recommend going straight to day rehab which is 3 hours of intensive therapy and you get to go home and have more freedom of movement.

I asked several times for the proof of the denial they said they received , but you can't send something that doesn't exist without breaking another law, with falsely manufacturing a letter, The billing department tried to convince me that a referral only covers the equipment and not the actual test, I informed them I will report them for the no surprise medical billing violation, if they harass me any more, now I wish I looked deeper into the bills I had paid before this one. I mean, I enter the office and go up to the desk to check in for my appointment (there's no window). The girl--half my age--talks loudly: "MR. ROBERT S--. YOU'RE HERE FOR DR. SHEPARD? [yes]. IS THIS YOUR FIRST VISIT. [no] NOW, ARE YOU STILL ON --- DRIVE? [no] I NEED FOR YOU TO FILL THIS CARD OUT, OK, MR. S--. [sure] I NEED YOUR INSURANCE CARD AND ID, DEAR." The waiting room is full of patients. Privacy would be nice. "Dear"? I am twice your age, which means you should still be in college. Only women over 60 years old call me "dear." And only hard of hearing people talk as loudly in an office full of patients as you do, dear.

Upon my first appointment with Dr. Hidaka, I was immediately impressed by his "care factor." I am a busy professional in the service industry, so naturally I have high expectations from professionals I choose. I say can with certainty that Dr. Hidaka's approach is unlike any other physician I've encountered. I feel as if he's an old friend who just happens to be a respected and accomplished physician. His care extends beyond "office hours." He frequently checks in with me on past issues, treatment progress, etc. Also, a much-appreciated bonus is that Dr. Hidaka is quick to respond and help even when I'm unable for an office-visits (travel, busy season, etc.). He is really setting the tone for modern health care the way it should be in our busy society.

My review is mixed feeling, I am grateful for my orthopedic surgeon, while in surgery, I know he…read moreaccidentally cut an artery in my foot while removing hardware from my tibia and fibula that was 25 years old, I do not know if that is normal or it happens I don't know but they repaired it took longer in surgery obviously, but afterwards I'm left with some numbness in tingling and cold and spasms and swelling off and on, they had me go to get a referral for my doctor for an ultrasound on the veins for blood flow, the test itself when okay and they did not find it was a blood flow problem, I believe it has to be with the nerves possibly or a muscle problem from moving the muscles around I don't even know yet but I still suffer with it, but my issue with them is first while I was in the hospital my nursing staff was great they did an awesome job orthopedic nurses in this hospital are really good, they charge for therapy but all they did was have me walk from my bed to the bathroom and back never took me out of the room once but sure did Bill the insurance for a full therapy session, next the food service people are absolutely terrible, I don't know if the woman who normally brought my food was just against white people or something I have no clue but she never would put it where I could reach it, she'd always put the food on the tree but never helped me get it never push it up to the bed or close to me. If the tray just happened to be on the side of the room or in front of the bed she would put it there and leave it, so I would always be hungry because by the time someone came into the room the food was cold didn't taste good anyway but it was cold which is not good unless you're ordering cold food. Biggest problem I have with this hospital though is there billing center, I have been fighting with these people since they sent me my first bill in June of 2026 for the ultrasound that I had in March of 2026, when I questioned why they were sending me that bill, they said my insurance denied payment, but my insurance shows they paid for that date, and they said it was for the doctor's bill that reads the ultrasound but they tried to tell me the doctor performed the ultrasound, they did not! I kept asking them ever since to please resubmit to the insurance make sure all the information they provided them was correct, cuz my insurance would not tell them they need my social security number and they would not tell them that they don't have a patient under them with that information unless it was wrong. Which is strange that they would pay the big part of the bill and deny something else while asking for that information doesn't make sense, finally I had my insurance in on it three way call my agent asked the right questions I didn't think of, and it turns out the claim they put through was not mine it was for someone else a man I am not a man. I am a woman since the day I was born I've been female, so now it's a weight game while we wait to see if they actually resubmit like my insurance asked. Which I asked so many times already and they had the nerve to turn me into collections without checking anything to make sure they were right, put me through all this stress when they entered the wrong information to begin with. They made a stressful situation much easier and we truly appreciated their kindness and professionalism. However, we are very upset about our experience with one doctor in particular. We felt extremely dismissed, and it seemed like our concerns were being ignored. The doctor left the room not only with an attitude, but also without fully answering our questions or addressing our concerns, simply stating that they had other patients to see. While we understand that doctors are busy and have many patients to care for, the interaction still felt very dismissive. Later, when I went to the nurses' station to ask about setting up the next appointment for the referral they were giving us, the doctor was still there. When I tried to ask additional questions about my significant other's condition, the doctor again seemed dismissive and did not take the time to address the concerns I had. What was especially troubling was that this occurred in front of the doctor's students. In our opinion, this sets a poor example and teaches poor bedside manner. Compassion, listening, and respect are incredibly important when caring for injured or ill patients.

Keith who works the front desk is nice, is very professional and takes the time to go over paperwork, the process, payment and scheduling. The "6 question prep" before I came into the office consultation was a snap (my insurance company had no issues and answered everything). The consultation was with Dr. Dragomir Jovanovic in Arlington Heights. He explained the procedure, took time to answer each and every question I had, and he took the time to explain however rare any remote discomfort / side effects that could occur. I was so ready to go after that, I scheduled it for the following week (today 06/27) which was my 45th birthday! I also loved the way they handle the payment. I just decided to make it easy for me. Paid the amount due right there with my credit card and it's out of sight out of mind after that. Today, the only stress I had was traffic. I took the prescribed muscle relaxer 30 mins prior to arrival, and it really helped to "chill me out" for the appointment. I didn't have any really anxiety over the procedure, I just had a combination of Internet reading and my co-workers teasing me about it the past week going in my head. I had the first appointment of the day. Keith was there, escorted me into the waiting area. I did not have to wait long, and if I haven't said it before, I'll say it again. He's a professional and very courteous. I was escorted into a room where Dr. Jovanovic greeted me at the door. We soon got started and the anesthesia application is literally ALL you feel during the whole process. If I had to give it a "1-10" for how much you feel it - it would be a 1 at best. It's like a little poke and it's done. Dr. Jovanovic and I talked the entire time. Complete, funny conversations and before you know it, one side was done and then the other side. He showed me the sections of vas deferens that he removed and a gauze pad which had very little blood on it, and it was DONE! To be honest, without showing me that, you wouldn't even know he did something down there. Dr. Jovanovic and Keith reviewed what to do post-procedure and I walked out, literally 30 minutes later. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I think the most complicated instruction was bathing tomorrow and making sure the gauze is in place. So...I'm about 3 hours post-procedure. No pain, no discomfort. I am not exaggerating when I tell you I could work out right now. Thanks again and kudos to Dr. Jovanovic and Keith.
