I always have the best experience at Bananas. The owner is the sweetest ever and the staff is always super friendly. Not to mention their meatball sub is the best I think I've ever had! Try one! Good selection and friendly staff, a north end must for quick groceries and great selection! read more

High prices as expected for the location. Staff member was apathetic and rude and I ended up walking out without buying anything. Will not return. read more

I love this place! Boar's Head cold cuts, pre-made foods, fresh produce, Richie's Slush and now, soft serve frozen yogurt. I hate going to Stop & Shop and grapes are always rotten at the bottom of the bag, or cucumbers taste bitter. Everything I picked up was fresh. I didn't have to go rummaging through fruits and veggies. It's like Target, I go in for something I need and come out with a bag of groceries. My personal fave is the buffalo chicken salad. It's perfectly spicy and the portion is enough for 2 servings. read more

Since canceling levelup and removing their loyalty program, I will never shop here again. It used to be a convenient place to grab groceries, now very inconvenient, over priced with no savings and the cashiers are extremely rude! I'll do my shopping at the golden goose from now on. read more

I love this place. LOVE it. LOOOVVVEEEE it. It's a nifty little grocery store in the North End with some excellent alternative to typical grocery store products. What really sets this place apart is their deli and soup selections. The Italian Wedding soup is a must buy (good for probably two meals and one of the best Italian Wedding soups I've had). The deli is great as well; none of the meat or ingredients are out of this world, but you can pretty much customize to put whatever you want on a MASSIVE sandwich for only $7. I owe this place a 5 star review just for how many irresponsible Friday hangovers have been cured because of this godsend. Another point in their favor: no tourists! You'll never have to worry about massive lines or morons touring the North End for the first time. All in all: a must try if you work or live in the area, you don't know what you're missing! read more

Good alternative if you're frequently in the North End and want a cheap alternative for lunch. The deli in the back makes HUGE sandwiches for $6-7. Groceries are a little expensive but a lot of it is high end and healthy alternatives so it's what you expect. Never been disappointed here. read more

It surprises me to see so many good reviews about this place. Yes, they have a convenient location and serve the purpose of a grocery store but man, it's not worth it. This morning I bought a cup of mediocre mango for $4 and a cup of yogurt for $2 (it's less than $1 at a real grocery store). It reminded me why I avoid GB like the plague, the prices are ridiculous! read more

I try to avoid shopping here but it is difficult because it is so convient. The prices are excessively high even for a convience store. They carry produce which is nice but I typically go to Haymarket anyways. read more

I bought 5 premade salads because I work a lot of hours and don't have time to shop and make up all those salad's. I got on my second salad when I noticed a bug on a piece of romaine lettuce. I also noticed that they did not separate the leaves because they had the base (root) chunks of the romaine lettuce all mixed. Olives were suspect looking also. I will not be buying anymore salads from them. read more

Since removing LevelUp, I have no reason to come here. It used to be a convenient place to grab some groceries, now extremely inconvenient and over priced with no rewards or loyalty, which use to be their value. I'll be going to Golden Goose exclusively now. read more

Great and healthy food. I love it here. I come here twice a week for my regular food and I'm never disappointed.

I received an apology via a yelp msg today from an employee at Going Bananas regarding my review of their poor customer service. An apology in effort to rectify poor service is always appreciated! I have been back a few times (never to order a smoothie) and find that the employee who is consistently rude, is still rude, however the majority of the staff is pretty helpful. read more

I really like this place. It's very convenient on the way back from work for me. Able to to pick a nice mixed salad or just a box of romaine with some fresh vegetables. Also has a pretty good selection of steak and chicken near the back. The reason I gave this place four stars though, is for their deli. They have some great selections. My personal favorite is the Cajun turkey - so good! They also have a dozen other cheap deli meats and cheeses. If you don't want groceries and need a quick bit to eat, they also make great sandwiches. Very large so you could even make it into two meals if you wanted to. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they have a pretty small selection of products overall. But, that is somewhat expected for stores in the north end. read more

They no longer accept Level-Up which is disappointing. Still a good spot if you're in need of some last minute grocery essentials. But in all honesty, if I'm going to be paying a premium for groceries, I'll walk the extra 10 minutes and go to Whole Foods. read more

$19 for milk, cookies, rice, and tater tots?! Wow. For a second I thought I was in Whole Foods. Actually, Whole Foods might be a little less expensive. If it wasn't on my way home I'd never go here. Cramped, muggy, and way overpriced. Only plus is that they have a large chip selection. read more

Going Bananas has the best subs! I definitely enjoyed their chicken parm and meatball sub - Meatballs are homemade!!!!. Good flavor and fresh ingredients. I would definitely recommend their deli counter also. They have boar's head, which you can't go wrong with. Highly recommend, anything I've had there is excellent. High quality all the way around. YUM YUM read more

Wonderful little Salem St. grocery for your every day needs. Awesome place if you need to pop in and grab something to make dinner with. Prices are higher and that's expected but don't forget that the deli in the back makes subs and breakfast sandwiches. Another reason to stop by here is also for their smoothies... perfect place to cool down in the summer. read more

I ordered a smoothie and a sandwich. they don't speak much English so you better watch your order cause they will screw it up. prices decent sandwiches and smoothies are just okay. originals owners sold this place a long time ago. read more

Just okay is a good way to describe this little grocery store. They have a new space that is across the street from their old space. Much bigger, but also much of the same. A great North End small grocery store. If you live or work in the area, it will work for your basic groceries needs. However, if you are looking for a smoothie place while you walk around the NE, then keep walking. This is not your place for that. Their smoothies are expensive and substandard. Chunky and just not quality. That is where the 3 stars comes into play. It is also very expensive for the grocery items, but really you are paying for convenience of being able to buy these things in the North End. So, you can't complain much about that. Go to Stop N Shop if you want to pay the big grocery store cheap prices. What I do like a lot is their deli and sandwich shop. The sandwiches are $5-$6 and are made with some quality deli meats, and veggies. I've paid a lot more for sandwiches that were a lot worse. They also have some pre-made salads that are a tad pricey, but good if you just want to pick up a salad real quick. My only other complaint is that the staff is not the friendliest. Take it for what it is: a little neighborhood grocery store with some bad smoothies. read more

This is a small grocery store in the North End that sells many different cheeses and herbs. I go here for last minute items and can usually find what I need. It is a little pricey but good quality and conveniently located. Considering how limited the supermarket options are to a North Ender, Going Bananas is the place to go when the gourmet shops are closed or lacking what you need. Sometimes if I can't find something at Monica's I will go here and find it quickly. Very useful! read more

Their tuna salad is excellent. Moist, yummy, but NOT over-mayo-ed!

Good take out. Very high prices. Got most of what anyone would need or want. $5.99 half gallons of Almond milk you get at Stop and Shop for $2.79. Nice deli counter. read more

The biggest little market in the North End. They have just about everythign you need to make a meal, and more. The new space helped to add more to the store. read more

I love Going Bananas. Mostly I go for quick things I run out of in the middle of the week. Produce is pretty good quality but it's a tiny place - so it's really for a green pepper here, a bag of carrots there. They have the real basics. Fun fact though - I am a big fan of shallots. I cook with them, make marinades, dressings. I love shallots. Bananas always has the best in the North End. Better than the Goose, better than the guy on Parmenter. I don't know how they do it - even in dead of winter, they are good. read more

I have lived in this hood for a bit but just discovered this place. I kind of assumed it was just a little convenience store but noooo - they have absolutely awesome (and reas. priced) sandwiches, wraps and so-good summertime fruit smoothies. My favorite sandwich is - smoked turkey, avocado, cheese & hot banana peppers) So if you are wandering in the North End and want to grab a cheap wrap to take to the new park, this is a good bet. read more

Banana's is a great place to run in for a quick sandwich or wrap to go. There is no seating, but you can walk right up to their deli counter and order any of their fresh meat, and cheeses on any variety of bread. The sandwiches are HUGE. Definitely a full meal on their own. Six bucks for dinner...not bad in my book! read more

Good spot to stop in for prepared salads and fresh fruit cups - salads have choice of toppings- grilled chick, mozzarella and tomato, Tuna salad, etc. usually buy the mango fruit cup which is always fresh and fruit is sweet. The store also prepares smoothies and has some fresh produce and meats for sale and subs made to order. Meats are usually from Dom's sausage read more

One of the few places in the area where you can always count on good fruit. Just bought some limes there yesterday and they were juicy and fresh. Anyone who lives in the area and has been to the "famous" Haymarket knows that the fruit sold there is, at best, a gamble. Pay a bit more and get reliable produce at Going Bananas. read more

Not only do I go "Bananas" for the fruit selection I absolutely love there sandwiches! If you go straight to the back you will find a excellent deli with a selection of Boars Head meat and cheeses. In my opinion they make the best prosciutto & mozzarella in the North End. It does take a minute, the gentleman making the sandwiches is a bit of a perfectionist. But, give him 10 minutes and watch him slice the meat & cheese right in front of you. On your way out order one of their smoothies they just started making this year. Strawberry & Banana is an awesome combo!! read more

Truly glad this store is experiencing some growth coming from their humble tiny store to the new much larger space. Going bananas has by far the best prosciutto sandwiches, huge and relatively inexpensive, about $7. read more

Although this place is rather pricy for a market, it's really the only food store bigger than a convenience store and smaller than a restaurant in the neighborhood. They have fresh produce and drinks in the front! Best place to go to get fixins for a hangover feast. read more

When I lived down the North End I'd usually order Peapod for most of my groceries, but if I was out of somethng I didn't even bother going to CVS or hoping the White Hen would have it... I would just stop by Goin' Bananas because they have mostly everything. Around the time I was moving out of the NE they were expanding their store, so I think it's much bigger now. It is a little pricey, but it's family owned, the people are sweet and their produce is fresh. They make great sandwiches, I remember only $4! which is pretty cheap around the NE. I would definitely recommend just going here if you're out of something. Because it's small they usually carry one brand of things, I think they have Pepsi, no coke, but I could be wrong. If they've expanded they may have more a variety now. read more

Best deli sandwiches in the area - hidden gem. Here almost every day for little things I need for dinner. As a grocery store, it's pretty over-priced, which is understandable for a neighborhood food store. Great for little things here and there. One critique - please put prices on everything! The produce often aren't priced and they don't give you itemized receipts, so I just don't know how much a lot of it costs. read more

This place is on the way to my apartment from the Haymarket T. So I tend to get fresh vegetables and deli meat here. The shop is pretty lacking in the choice of packaged meat (no chicken drumsticks or premium steaks, for instance) as well as certain imported cheeses and canned fish (salmon and sardines) that I prefer. They also don't always have bananas. So I continue to go to the Golden Goose for those items. read more

Love the fruit cups - very reasonable. Knocked a star off because too much melon! Give me some berries! Had a wonderful mozz/tom/basil sub on good friday. Was fantastic and huge. Glad things are working out for them in the new space. read more

One of the best tasting and most fresh wraps I've ever had. It was a California chicken wrap, and I can't wait to get it again on my way home tomorrow. Very large, made for 2 meals for $7. Groceries are expensive but understandable considering the location. read more

This may be convenient on my walk home but I try to avoid it. The produce is ALWAYS on it's way out, I often wonder if they buy it from Haymarket. They are also very over priced, a lot of the same or similiar items can be purchased at CVS much cheaper. Hopefully some day soon the North End will have a grocery store. read more

I've am a life long North End resident and I shop at Going Bananas EVERY day on the way home from work. They have the best fresh veggies, meats, cold cuts, fruits Smoothies (to die for), etc. Now that they relocated across the street to a bigger space, now they have EVERYTHING your looking for. If you cant find it, ask one of the staff members and I'm sure the next time you stop by, they'll have it. The owner Frank is so pleasant. The staff is always so helpful. The "cold cut" guy in the back is a pleasure also, he ALWAYS cuts my cold cuts just the way I like them, not too thin and not too thick. The owner is always so giving when it comes to North End fund raisers. He gives what ever we ask for, never even blinks an eye. Thanks Frank and the staff at Going Bananas Keep up the good work!! read more

Soo I was excited to stumble upon this place when I moved to the north end as the closest real grovery store is whole foods in the west end about ten to fifteen minutes of walking away... I came here a few times to grab random snacks like chips and salsa and ice cream and the convenience couldn't be better.. I also got a sandwich here which was fresh and really big. A few things happened that make me think I would have nothing against going there again but it may not be my first pick. I got a premade sald there marked buffalo chicken sald. I was so excited for my somewhat healthy and yet still tasty lunch all day! I opened it, started eating the lettuce and soon realized there was NO chicken in it at all! I double checked the label and sure enough it said buffalo. oh well! Disappointing but not earth shattering. I went back the next day to get a salad againa nd told the kid what happened and he charged me less for the slad this time to make up for it and this one actually had chicken. It was really good. Another time, I went and got pasta and sauce there which I was also really excited about. That night I went to boil the sauce but when I opened the jar, there was a white cob web looking thing inside. Im not really sure what that means or if it was even harmful but my appetite was gone at that point. Again, a few disappointing experiences but it doesnt necessarily mean it isnt still good for cxertain things in a pinch! read more

Going Bananas combines the best of the old neighborhood market and the hard to find items young, hip professionals seek. Frank and his staff are warm and welcoming, always ready to help. The sandwiches are outstanding, as are the gelato and smoothies - full of fresh fruit. A great place to stop by when walking around Boston. read more
