I was in the neighborhood, I had some time to kill, so I went into this Shaw's to get some peanut butter, since I was running low at home. They had several options among national brands and their Organic Shaw's private label. You can save so much with the private label, as long as you like the taste, texture and flavor of it....some people are really brand loyal and they would never buy anything but a national brand like Peter Pan or Skippy.... I find their organic private label is as good as the national brand, especially their crunchy version, which I like a lot. Easy self check-out process. read more

So the first thing we did when we arrived in Boston for the first time was look up a supermarket on Yelp and find Shaw's supermarket. Cute supermarket close to the airport and it was only a few minutes away so the drive to this place was short. The market itself was clean and had all the items we wanted and needed it. The parking lot itself is very large. They have fresh vegetables, fruits, snacks such as chips and soda. So we were able to get everything here and then head to check-in at our hotel. They were having a lot of stock of items but the line to check out was a little long. But if you need some fruits and snacks when you are in Boston this is a chill spot to come. read more

For some unknown reason, whenever I travel I find the local grocery store. Well Boston was no different. The store was very clean and well stocked. I loved the freshness of the meat and ended up buying 3 hamburger patties that were called "pub burgers." They were patties with a generous amount of seasoning on them. read more

It was clear that the cashier and the bagger were unhappy which spreads to those around them. No "Thank you" or "have a nice day" only handing me my receipt. Hidden away alongside the Boston Harbor In Day Square at Liberty Plaza way way in back is Shaw's. The store is aged but kept in great order. The location is clean and runs efficiently. The produce selection is fabulous including s nice sized organic section which is one of the reasons I shop here. The other is the Butcher-shop. They always have the choices cuts at the same prices of the packaged meats but you can choose your selections and see both sides of the meat before you purchase. The floral section is always stocked and fresh. I'm always surprised at the sales for instance I went in to purchase a couple porterhouse steaks and switched it up since the lamb chops were only $5.99/lb on sale from $12.99/lb. couple not pass up that sale :) read more

The only thing that runs smooth in this far from SUPERmarket is the florist. Lines long the self checkout is like being at DMV waiting on unresponsive clerks if you have SALE items that need a scan card .....the assistants either ring product wrong or again charging you twice it takes forever on regular checkout line, they tell you what register to go after 5 mins realizing empty cashiers. The Deli is still a 20-30 minute tour when only 3 people waiting with usually 3 behind counter. Disgrace the allotted time to order deli meat. A 30 minute wait for 2 1/2 lb items ....???? Usually walk away as the dumbness exceeds service , how many times does it take 2 people to take care of one order.... I ask for Dietz Watson Turkey 9 outta 10 times I get HAM wtf already...Listen its your job.... DO NOT SHOP AT SHAWS SUPERMARKETS! AMERICANS LIVES DEPEND ON IT! I almost died from the coronavirus. I spent 3 months hooked up to a machine! I watched 68 people around me die. We now have 155,000 deaths in America due to this pandemic. I frequent the Shaw's Supermarket store often on Border Street In East Boston MA. On Saturday July 25th at 8pm, I came to the store to get some food for my family. I noticed two customers walking around without a mask. Every other patron was wearing a mask. I spoke to a female manager about their presence. She told me she sees them and is aware. I asked her if she would ask them to leave? She said she was told by corporate she was not allowed. I explained to her and the lady that there is a $300 fine for not wearing a mask in MA. The lady used some vulgarity and called me a few names. I myself got very passionate, After almost losing my life I take this personal! The male manager came out and was a gentleman. However, the female manager sided with the lady without the mask. In fact, she said that she was going to report us to the cops for being "disrespectful" to another customer. I found it jarring that she decided to side with the lady even though I was not the one who violated the face mask order. I can't imagine with all the business all over the country implementing mandatory mask policy Saws would allow this. If a person can't wear a mask for whatever reason, they should have someone shop for them. In MA we have many organizations that could help them. I spoke with the District Manager Mill Mcmanner! He said it is Shaw's policy to allow people in with without mask. Our Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker and I are ask you for your help protecting the residents of East Boston and for locations of Shaw's from the danger of allowing unmasked people in your establishment. I can't imagine how Shaw's would allow your store employees or any patron to jeopardize the lives of the residents. Now I have to travel to and inform all my neighbors to go to Chelsea Market Basket. Harrassed me for the .05 cents for the bag. I refused and I refused for Four reasons. I actually didn't have any change or cash on me (using EBT)....The second reason was an Item that was posted on sale for $4.99 came up with the original price of $5.49. I recently needed a floral bouquet for the bride at a small private wedding. I went to Shaws and Denise, the floral manager created the most beautiful arrangement in a matter of minutes. It was a tall, hand held, super chic, classy arrangement. I was blown away. I will never use an expensive florist again, since I know one with a great talent at Shaws. I was willing to pay any price as it was a popup request and I was floored when the total came to $18.00. Denise is, and should be your go to florist in East Boston. They are selling expired products, bought an orange juice from there and when I opened it up, mold was growing on the top of the bottle, when I checked the expiration date, the juice expired 20 days before. Piece of advice, check the stuff you are buying there since they are doing very bad job verifying their products and removing expired stuff from their shelves. read more

This review is solely based on the customer service at this Shaw's Market. Today I stopped in at this Shaw's to get a bag of ice as well as a cooler. The prices for both items were reasonable and when it came time to check out, the cashier and bagger were incredibly polite. As I walked though the store the rest of the items seemed fresh (produce and baked goods.) In the end, again the service was great and I look forward to shopping here again in the future. read more

OMFG, someone please train management here on basic health regulations. I made the terrible mistake of using the restroom here while shopping. Someone was taking a dump. I did my business and went to wash my hands. Because that's the right thing to do after you pee. There was no soap. No sanitizer. I left the store, because it's disgusting to shop for food after urinating if you can't wash your hands. And I knew that at least one person was going to probably be handling food items without washing his hands after wiping his ass. I don't know how many people have been shopping in this store after urinating or defecating without washing their hands. A lot, I assume. At least that guy who was taking the dump, I guess. I got there around 10 before closing only for milk and peanut butter. Very quick and easy after work. They close early and stay upfront chattering and this lady rudely comes up like "we're close" like ma'am, sir, that you're not. If she was nice about it I wouldn't be here. I wish whatever company owns Shaw's these days (it's changed hands more times than a baby with a poopie-diaper) would show this location some love. It's too small, too understocked and way too understaffed most of the time. Here's the thing: it's in a tony location, the only true supermarket in the entire neighborhood. And our neighborhood is truly diverse demographically, you have the Latinos, the Moroccans, the Italians, the Hipsters, the Yuppies, the low-brows and whatever else. They say you can't be everything to everyone, but I wish this Shaw's would at least try. The place is always jam-packed with super-long lines. Try as they might to be fast (and the bagging here isn't bad at all), there's just too many people. Also, at the risk of sounding like a snooty rich right-wing D.B., there should be a WIC/EBT-only line because you get one person with a WIC check and the wait time doubles while the cashier argues about what you can and cannot buy with it. There...I said it. It's not so much that I object to people on government assistance, I'm totally liberal. I just object to waiting. It's the inner-city, make a plan for this sort of thing. One thing is really, really good here though: the deli counter. Seriously, these are the most friendly, helpful, on-the-ball people. They always offer you a taste of the first slice, check the thickness to your specifications and the selection is great. Very rarely do they seem to be out of anything. It's also nice they are super-efficient. All and all, I don't think Shaw's is a management problem, the staff is very good. There's just very few of them and the store needs a serious update. I realised when I got home Sunday night from this store I was missing some stuff. They was closed that night I called Monday. There was either a hold to find a manager or no one knew what I was talking about. Called Tuesday couldn't get through. Called today, get a lady who's "Holding Down the store for now" saying there isn't a manager in. I told her clearly and detailed about what happened. She goes on and asks how many items were missing; "A few? 1 item or multiple?" Even though I said a few. I dont know how a few equals 1. She then says," so this happened yesterday?" I told her it was Sunday twice before she asked this. She then says, "Since you haven't called since then I'm not sure we can do anything about it and you have to call tomorrow for when the manager is in." So I tell her whats the sense of me talking if you arent hearing anything I say? Because I told you twice I did call. Sge puts me on a twenty minute hold comes back and says, "call tomorrow for the manager and he has to check the camera to see if you walked out the store with the items and you do indeed have them. " What?!?! I told her if I walked out the store with the items I would have had them. Why are you acusing me of lieing? "Im not!! I just dont know if you have them or not." The Shaws supermarket on Border St in East Boston is on a great location in these parts of the city and has awesome waterfront front views. It houses a Branch for Eastern bank as well. Located in East Boston's Central sq, along with some take-out places, a pharmacy and plenty of other stores, it has plenty of parking and is easily accessible by at least 3 bus routes. The community that surrounds this supermarket is very mixed and international and it is almost surprising how not diverse the food selection is. After using this supermarket as my main food store for 5 years, there seems to be a regular, non-crowded people flow at all times. I've never waited too long in line and I go at random times of the day and days of the week. It has an accessible red-box and a flower shop, and nothing else out of the ordinary. read more

This is our main grocery store here in East Boston. While I'm not sure how it stacks up against other grocery stores in Boston, the selection is very good compared to the Kroger I am used to shopping at back in Memphis. They have a great seafood selection, live lobster tanks, two large "world market" isles, and fresh baked goods that I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to. When we first moved here, I kept going back there every morning to pick up their chocolate muffins. Currently, the chocolate chip cookies are our addiction. A funny story...I have been going there for about two monthes now and kept thinking there was a shortage of shopping carts. It turns out I had been going in the exit the whole time, and right down by the other door are hundreds of carts! Good thing I figured this out before I did this review or I would have probably given a lower rating! read more

I would like to say Thank You to Walter in the meat department, and his co-worker ( he is a very nice Italian man with glasses.) never got his name. They are very helpful, and pleasant. They don't make you feel as though you asking them to do something out of the norm. You want special cut of meat, you got it, or just the "Hi how's it going." as your passing by. The gray haired man who is the in charge of the store is very nice also. He is always walking around making sure things are kept oderly, and staff are kept busy. Be warned this is the second time I've purchased a seafood item that was clearly turned or turning. The location is very convenient so I hoped the first instance was a fluke. Sadly not the case. I purchased a 1 1/2 of snow crab this evening. When I returned home and unwrapped the package I was floored with an unbelievable smell of ammonia/over powering "fishy-ness". The crab was also very slimy/sticky to the touch. Now I'm a huge fan of snow crab and frequently eat it at home so I knew this was not normal. I didn't bother returning as it's just not worth the hassle. I have also noticed on more than one occasion the deli attendant (very slow service by the way) has commented right before slicing lunch meat, "oh I better check in the back for a new one, this ones past the expiration date" . Some of their produce are usually not so fresh. Especially the strawberries. Whatch out for mold becuase 30% of the boxes usually have at least a couple of strawberries with mold. They carry the nessecities but i would love way more organic and unique fruits and grains. The guy that works the seafood section doesnt know what tunat steak is. The ladies at the bakery are nice and the people that work at the register are ALWAYS gossiping about someone. The guy working the seafood section could not have been anymore incompetent. I was next in line after one couple who had ordered 3 1/2lb of whatever and the worker took his sweet sweet time for each spoonful. It was absolutely ridiculous. After waiting 20min for him to finally help me, he didn't. Another guy had to step up because this fool didn't know how to do his job. I asked for 2 lobsters and he looked so scared that he had to ask someone else to help. How many people does it take to grab a lobster? Apparently more than one. read more

***Rating based on the customer service booth but I guess it's a rating of the store in general since this booth is the first line of customer service*** I have gone to multiple grocery stores and we have gone to Shaws numerous times and this is the first worst customer service I had ever received here. We came here to pick up a few items missing for our family BBQ, items such as another rack of spare ribs, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and spaghetti noodles. Since they do have a customer service booth that sells the lottery scratchers, we went in this line since we always buy scratchers for my grandparents when we go here and the customer service rep has always checked us out even with our non-lottery items (groceries). Giuseppe was at the customer service booth, when we arrived at his line, he was in clear view of our items in our hands, he said out loud to us "oh, I'm not taking anyone" and we said we were also buying lottery scratchers, so he said ok. We stood in line, the customer ahead of us didn't buy any lottery tickets so he assisted the gentleman at the non-lottery register. When it came to us, he was only assisting us with just the lottery purchase. I said to please also include our grocery items and he said "I can't ring you up at this booth since I don't have a scale like the regular registers that's why I said to go there." I corrected him that he only said he wasn't taking anyone (whatever that really meant since customers still lined up behind us. Then I also pointed out that he can use the same register with the scale he used with the customer before me. He then said he couldn't ring up the lottery purchase there and I said ok so then ring up that here and we can move to that register for the groceries. He then had the audacity to say that I can wait there but he would have to help the customers behind me. I then asked why would I have to wait because I am a customer also. Then the customer behind me was asking for the winning numbers from last night and instead of doing our transaction, he helped that customer. After having difficulty with the CC machine, he asked if we had cash. I paid cash then he said he'd move our groceries to the other register to ring us up. He moved the groceries but then assisted 2 customers behind me. I literally wanted to give him a peace of my mind of how his customer service the entire time was horrible but I bit my tongue and instead put it on a review. Once he finally came back to us to ring out our groceries, he was very disrespectful to ringing up our items. Throwing our items in a bag and tossing it on the counter loud enough you heard an echo when the box of spaghetti hit the counter. My advice to Shaws is to rid this guy from the CUSTOMER SERVICE booth since he cannot perform the skills or tasks of a customer service representative. I'm sure the customer service we received today is not what Shaws has taught their employees. He didn't want to help us, didn't think we were customers (even though we were paying/paid customers) nor was he putting the customer first. This booth was far from being a "customer service booth" to us, it should've had "customers I pick and choose to help" booth since that's literally what Giuseppe did. Can we give less than a star? This is a run down, very expensive supermarket (often more expensive than whole foods) - why? There does not seem to be enough turnover and product rotation, and vegetables and fruits are invariably of very low quality. Groceries without breaking the bank in Boston; who would have imagined? Shaw's has an excellent location in East Boston, just a short walk from Airport or Maverick T stops. This grocery store has plenty of deals every week and an app that contains coupons to use. They have great rotisserie chickens, a variety of fresh produce, and a very well stocked meat and seafood case. Aside from their selection of groceries, they do a very good job of keeping the store clean. However Shaw's is a bit outdated and can be busy at times, especially on the weekends. It's well organized which is useful if you're in a rush or just looking for one specific item. The employees are helpful and there is a self checkout option as well. They even have "monopoly" tickets that can be earned with the purchase of specific items to potentially win prizes. Overall, Shaw's is a pretty decent place to get your groceries. read more
