I genuinely regret spending my money at this establishment. Given the $30 per person price tag, the shockingly low quality of food presentation, dining environment, and hygiene is completely unacceptable. Let's talk about the food. I understand that woo samgyeop (brisket) is typically served frozen and rolled at Korean BBQ spots, but the plating here was incredibly lousy. They just threw all kinds of meat randomly onto a cheap steel plate. It honestly looked like pet food or leftover from someone else's table. If you are charging $30 a head, put some effort into the presentation! Places like Gen BBQ know how to plate their meats properly, and there are so many simple ways this place could improve. The kalbi (short ribs) was just as insulting. It arrived in tiny, unappetizing pieces that looked like abandoned corner scraps from a butcher's block. Seeing those meats served to me gave me zero appetite, and what we did manage to cook was so heavily over-marinated that we could barely finish it. While the servers themselves were generally kind, the dining experience was a disaster. At one point, a staff member was cleaning the adjacent table, which was only separated from ours by a perforated shield. She carelessly sprayed the cleaning liquid right through the holes, splashing chemicals directly onto me while I was eating. To make matters infinitely worse, we found not one, but two bugs right on our table. I dine out all the time and have never encountered such a hygiene issue at a KBBQ spot. The hostess stand has a machine where you can get a pic printed free with your party. Our server was Jay. She was knowledgeable and explained the menu well. The water is kept at the table. It had no taste which is what I look for. Appetizer and gogi is included in AYCE. Special offer and dessert are additional charges. The corn cheese is really big but could serve 2 people. The marinade rib fingerling was the highlight of the protein. The potato and vegetable croquette was sauced. It was delicious. Highly recommend this appetizer. The mango soju and lychee soju are tasty. The corn cheese also hot and served 4 people. I would have liked rice paper and brisket sauce. This is for the Sunridge Location I live in Las Vegas and we have a lot of Korean barbecue places in town so I'm comparing the Las Vegas vs Calgary. We reserved online and we were seated right away when we get there, Our table is clean and our waiter is attentive. Not a lot of selection for appetizers and main meats and the sides and salad bar for comparison. The same goes with the beef barbecue selection, we only have the brisket and bulgogi, if you want more beef selection like Kalbi and corn cheese you have to pay extra as they are not part of AYCE. Their brisket is too fatty, not a lot of lean meat were served to us. The bulgogi is not bad at all, not too sweet and not too salty. No selection for desserts for the AYCE. And for the price, it's a little expensive for what you get. The sides like fried chicken is overcooked. The sweet potatoes and the croquette are not bad. This restaurant is normally busy I have been here twice the first time had to wait 30 mins so we left luckily the second time they just cleared a table for us we came early 6:00pm and it was nearly a full house. The staff is very nice however we didn't receive water we had to ask for it probably because it was super busy. oxtail noodle soup that was $13 and upon getting it I was shocked I stirred my thing around no chunk of oxtail just 3-4 slices of beef and very little noodles however the broth was good. Kimchi stew was good my husband liked it. seafood green onion pancake consist of barely any green onion and barely any seafood just a lot of random vegetables like Napa cabbage (strange) and other vegetables with a hint of seafood and green onion which is disappointing BUT their batter and sauce is on point. Very crispy and light interior for the pancake itself and very light not too salty or sweet the dipping sauce so overall we still kinda enjoyed this pancake. We really liked the self serve side dish counter they give you unlimited salad, sides, rice you can help yourself to (no free unlimited potato's though shame..) their seaweed was my favourite side and their salad dressing delicious! read more

This place is busy, because it is popular. We were lucky I guess that we only had to wait 45 mins. They took my friends number and called us when it was our turn. We hanged out at the McDonalds across the street. It was not bad considering other times I was told they could not get a table, and for a reason. There's a 2 hour limit so others can eat. We had the "eat all you can" option. Didn't think I will have the appetite for it but I did. Everyone on your table needs to have the same option understandably. They give you a pitcher of cold water right away! We didn't have to chase the servers for water unlike in other restaurants. They asked if they can get our drink orders. Drinks are separate costs. Then we ordered appetizers and entrees off the menu which was brought to our table fairly fast. We started cooking with a burner in the middle of the table. It's best to leave your best clothes at home. Your clothes will reek of food naturally cooking on your table. It's not a fancy atmosphere. But it is a pretty good experience. Food is good. This is probably the last time I will ever come to Gogi. Sorry guys, with a heavy heart I must say this was the worst dinner experience I have ever had. So the dinner starts off with us being ignored at the front to be sat down. Eventually we were sat down in a table with 4 seats( 4th seat was a high chair for my baby) in the middle of a really busy restaurant, which is understandable. But everytime the servers needed to move around us we had to move ourselves to let them through. Which isn't too bad if it's not too much, but it was the whole night. We waited at least 20 minutes for a server to come and ask us if we needed some water or ask us for our order. When we did get a server he said that he would come back to take our orders, but he never came back. We waited another 15 minutes until another server came(different one this time) and took our orders. Our orders came around the 40 minute mark, but they forgot our utensils! We waited another 15 minutes until we got the attention of one of the servers to bring us our utensils. At the same time we asked for more water, which was never brought to us ever. We only had one glass each of water the whole dinner service. The food was alright, nothing special. As soon as we finished our dinner we made our way to the counter to pay so we didnt have to wait another 10-20 minutes for the bill. We spoke to the server and they asked us how the service was, which we gave them a fairly honest review, as we said the service was a bit on the bad side. No apologies what so ever was given and no reasons as to why the service was that bad. I was never impressed with Gogi before, but it was a decent place to go to when you are in the area craving for Korean food, but didn't think that the atmosphere and the service would have gone down to this level. My husband and I went down to Calgary for a few days in October. Our original dinner plans had fallen through due to a covid situation at a restaurant that we had made reservations. We were recommended to go to this restaurant instead. Finding the front door was a little weird, they had a patio that has a door with a sign for skip pickups but no sign on the actual metal door that is for clients. We were seated very quickly when we came in which was nice. The restaurant was pretty packed. Once we came in the server brought us water right away and explained the menu. When we ordered the dishes for the all you can eat options which I must say are very limited if you don't eat pork. We were happily surprised that the server noticed that we had no pork items and came over to confirm that we don't eat pork. As soon as we confirmed, that he made sure to inform us that he will ensure the kitchen does not use the same tongs for our meat. This truly impressed us both as we have never been to a restaurant that was so attentive to the needs without us mentioning anything. This place seemed busy on a Saturday which I was really happy to see. This was my first visit. Our waitress was really attentive and helpful. I do feel like they didn't have enough sides or sauces. Also wasn't a fan of having to serve myself sides and then have a server who was just standing there watching me ask me to put on gloves. Um, maybe you should serve the sides then... Came here on a Saturday before a Flames game. It's a little place in a residential area so was quite busy. They had regular tables and tables where you bbq your own food. All the bbq tables were full but they were able to fit us into a regular table. Food was great! Quite an extensive menu with appetizers to main dishes to set dinners for 2 or more people. The always give you a big water bottle to share with the table. That was a nice touch and it's the same at other Korean places I've been too. I ordered a salad and short ribs (my favourite) bibimbap. This is a very convenient place if you live nearby. I have been here 3 times and really like their soft tofu soup (this is my favorite Korean restaurant for it) and their ban Chan are good ( their kimchi and radish pickles are quite yummy). However, I'm not a fan of all you can eat menu. the meat cuts are not that high quality and they are marinated heavily. But I believe that they are reasonably priced at 24. Overall their items from all you can eat menu are acceptable. (I guess you can extrapolate to any all you can eat restaurant where quantity will be valued over quality) The only thing I hesitate coming here is that the tables are still too close to each other during covid. Finally, a decent Korean restaurant in the NW!! My husband and I had their AYCE on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't busy. We went when they had their $25/person promotion (regularly $28.95/p) in November. Our server was the manager and he was super friendly and interactive. Since they ran out of short ribs the night before, he lowered the price to $20/p for us. We tried everything on the menu - spicy chicken, spicy pork, deep-fried seaweed, japchae, pork belly, pork bone soup, rice cakes! The japchae was delicious but the rice cakes were kinda dry, as if they were sitting out too long. The manager cooked everything for us at the table since it wasn't too busy. The pork belly was fresh and so were all the marinated meats. The service was amazing and the manager told us stories of how he arrived in Canada less than 10 years ago, fell in love with the country and decided to open a Korean restaurant. He checked on us every 5 minutes and made sure we got to try everything on the menu. They also do lunch combos for a decent price (~ $13). Overall we were really impressed with the service and the food. We were so full, we skipped dinner but we will definitely return again for more delicious noms. read more

#171 I am on fire today. No, I am off from work and hungry. Add to that, it is family dinner with the only white person in a family of eight Chinese. They take care of me better than my own family so for them, I will do anything. Everyone is here and ready for this buffet or are they? I heard a rumour there is no Hite Beer but there is soju (that is why I deducted one star so now only four are possible; if I, as a white person, I can bother to learn about your culture, you need to bring it). They do have Cass Beer but the soju could make up for this temporarily. Now, on with the buffet (to be regular or deluxe), now this is a pickle (non-fried). The difference is that regular has mat-tang and the deluxe has la gal bi and gam-ja-tang (they both have eight common items including dduk-bok-kki, dalgangjeong, chicken bulgogi, bulgogi, deoji bulgogi, samgyeop-sal, kim-mar-i, and jap-chae). Both versions come unlimited side dishes, rice, and soft drinks while the deluxe also comes with ice cream. Regular it shall be or is it. Maybe a set dinner for 6-7 for $135 (since there are three children). Decisions.. decisions... Set dinner it is. The set dinner does include my favourites beef and chicken bulgogi, marinated short ribs, and seafood pancakes. Add an order of cold buckwheat noodles for each kid and we're done. As others have mentioned, the service is suspect but for Canada, almost normal (I know, my standards are too high). The restaurant is clean as was was the (men's) washroom (single person so lock the door). No hot water in the sink is a little off-putting especially in the winter. Well lit and Korean music playing in the background. I guess to hear Wheesung is asking a bit. Was hoping to catch a K-drama on the TV. You only can get 2 rips per person ;moreover, a pork bone soup is limited for only one order. All the marinated meat are too salty. Glass noodle and korean rice cake were terrible. The service was very poor even though the restaurant was almost empty. I would say 10% tips is even not worth it. The first time I came to Gogi was on a weekday night. it wasn't busy yet it took probably 30-45 mins for any food to come out. That included the rare meat I had to cook also. Whenever something was ordered, it was missed and I continuously had to re order everything. The food isn't as bad as the service. If they served amazing Korean barbecue.. I still wouldn't even come here because of the service. This happened the second time as well. Now only during the second time, the servers were too busy cleaning tables to get out early at the end of the day that they also missed my order. This was very disappointing. We ordered from here as take out- it's always a full parking lot so we assumed it would be good. What we ordered was bland, poorly assembled, and was not cooked well. We ended up returning one of the meals as it was really not even edible- it was just some grey meat thrown into a box. This may have been a one off experience as this place always looks busy- perhaps their take out does not receive the same amount of care as if you eat in? There could be any number of explanations. Ok disclaimer, the food here is pretty good.. Like 4 stars good. I would even say it's my go to Korean restaurant here in calgary. We were craving Korean tonight so of course we decided to come here. We knew it closed at 10 so we walked in the door by 9pm. To our disappointment we were turned away by staff saying they were closed. I politely pointed out to the staff that the open sign was still on so it was misleading. He proceeded to correct me saying the open sign was off. I walked outside and there it was, a bright ass sign saying "open" with the hours printed underneath (sign said 10 btw). They now have two types of all you can eat. I have tried both. 23.95 is the basic buffet which includes unlimited meat, side dishes, and refills on drinks. The 28.95 buffet comes with everything that the basic comes with plus two more dishes and ice cream. It is not cheapest buffet, but if you think about the amount of meat you get - it makes sense! The bulgogi (chicken & beef) are amazing! very tasty but also very spicy. The meat is so delicious. The deep fried chicken is also really good. I went with my family this weekend and we must have had 3 plates of it because we couldn't get enough. The side dishes included kimchi in it. I would say the decor is fairly simple but not bad. The outside of the restaurant is not at all impressive, but I came for the food. Two thumbs up! read more
